Many farmers has planted cucumbers, applied manure and fertilizer but still the crops will still have yellowish older leafs, obviously it cannot be foliar disease and the only culprit is nuritent deficiency but which one,so we used the planting app and the results came in magnesium and potassium deficiency are the two culprits.

Be very sure it is actually nutrient deficiency. I had something similar during last rainy season (around week 4). I had already applied mgso4 around week 3 and decided 2 apply it again thinking it wasn't enough.Used mgso4 with d other fertilizers. Rather than improving it kept on spreading to d points where d leaves were browning n drying off
On making further research I found out that insects attack (spider mites in particular r responsible). It was rainy season so felt I shouldn't b having any insect attack but alas when I checked d undersides I saw something that looked like black dots n even tiny black looking insects.
I also got to know that imidacloprid makes it worse(I had already applied it by then)
They r very difficult to eradicate.U can make further research on it

Please is the imidacloprid ineffective against spider mites or does the chemical worsen the chlororis, I have not had such an issue before though

If u Google imidacloprid use against spider mites, you will see different reasons why it is not recommended in treating it
1)it is not a miticide/acaricide (which is what you need against spider mites. Not all insecticides can be used)
2) there is a research that says it acts as a "fertility drug" when used for a particular type of spider mites i.e it increases d population
3) it is also said that d use of these insecticides (including imidacloprid) is what causes outbreak of spider mites on farms

Good evening, last year I went to a poultry to get chicken manure, I want to use it to plant cucumber, when I got there, I was told to go and pack inside the poultry, to me it's already dry, but someone told me to mix it with sand, I add maybe one bowl of sand to like one bag and I planted my seed direct to it.

I was expecting it to germinate after five days but unfortunately none of them germinated, I now read on this thread that it's risky to use chicken manure to plant except it has been decomposed.

I planted another cucumber last month without using manure to plant, everything germinated but on the long run, like 50 didn't grow well like Others, I think due to the soil.

Someone now told me, I should have used manure to plant it, but I was afraid of what to not repeat what happened to me last year.

Now, I want to plant another one, I have the option to use chicken or pig manure.

I will love to go for pig manure due what I have read from Mr Okoroemeka about the issues of the manure.

I now want to ask how can use it that, it wouldn't affect the seed to not be able to germinated?

Chicken dung has a higher nitrogen content than pig manure, and if not properly handled and used effectively may burn your crops.
Boss when you mix manure with soil, expose it to rain or any form of irrigation for at least a week if it's saw dust based manure and at least 2 weeks if it's that battery cage manure. It will cool naturally, and since you have given it time to break down and release nutrients to the soil. But if you have time you can buy it in advanced, so that by the you are prepared to it, it has cooled and composted to a great extent

Oh my God! thanks for this, I never knew about this. More reasons we need to learn daily and acquire new and updated information. Though I use chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin based insecticides, I will need to learn about their efficacy based on what you have discussed here

you are very correct, red spider bite is another problem that farmers constantly overlook,we have encountered it on our garden eggfarm and we used dd force for it and it worked,or miteforce also hallkat will work also.

Please, for greenhouse cucumber farming, what variety will you recommend which doesn't require insects for pollination?

I watched a YouTube video on hydroponics where the farmer mentioned he was using Diva variety cos it doesn't require insects for pollination, but I haven't heard of such variety in Nigeria.

I'm yet to see a planting material that would beat decomposed Piggery manure, it works like magic.

there's a farm we did and used piggery manure, in 4days there was germination and the rate is one of the best I've recorded

Can anyone recommend a good systemic fungicide for cucumbers, as cabrio I paid for is still not available. The rain falling these days can wash away the most effective contact fungicide in just hours

for cucumbers use a combo of zforcce (100 gram/knapsack) and redforce (50 gram/knapsack) another good effective combo is zforce and saaf(50 gram/knapsack).apply weekly and remove and dispose diseased leafs.

Thanks Boss! It's just that it's raining every single day, and barely hours after spraying, the rain washes everything away
Even my tomato is feeling the rain, more than 30% of the fruits have cracked angry angry

Lemme also mention what I am using so far in case someone needs to know or correct. I use funguforce 50g per knapsack and alternate with ultimax(just like redforce but with higher metataxyl concentration). For each knapsack I add 1ml/L of hexacal. The ridomil I started with is exhausted and I observed the above combination was effective until this rain got bloody, no signs of downy for now, but I am still prayerful . I spray twice a week, but the rain is not funny

that's why systemic fungicides is a must during rainy season it does not wash away easily like contact fungicides

Agree wt you. Its because is not too concentrated like those from chicken.

make a hole, fill the hole with decomposed Piggery manure, plant your cucumber in the middle of the hole.

If u try this with decomposed chicken manure without mixing enough soil, it may burn your seedlings.
