Maybe that's why there's been no improvement in the drug/cartel war, who knows? But yes, my method is supposed to be brutal and not following the status quo/business as usual.

I understand your point. What you said about politicians is true, but maybe some other thread will address that. This is a thread for yahoo stopping and suggestions/criticism are welcome.
Suggestions
1. acute reduction in poverty, I know there are many countries poorer than Nigeria that their citizens are not notorious for cyber crime but Nigeria has the highest number of people living in poverty in the world, and it is projected that by 2050, Nigeria and Dr Congo would have 60℅ of world poorest people, the implication is people would have to survive by all means and with the outlook of things now there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
Everything still revolves round the government, The government need to starting making policies that would be masses oriented, fixing of dilapidated social infrastructures will create millions of jobs and the poverty rate will reduce, thereby making the whole scheme less enticing to "would be yahoo boys".
I am not supporting crime in any way, but if we can not solve the root cause, we are just beating a dead horse.
2. There is another pandemic plaguing this country, the notion that some job/works/vocations are superior to others, in 1993, Ac Milan bought a player Lentini for a world record transfer fee of €13 million, the Vatican was outraged, they released a statement that " the transfer fee is a crime against the ethics of work " they later explained that such money is too huge to procure the service of any individual no matter the kind of work the person is into, that it is a mockery of other professions ( in 1993 such amount is a huge sum of money).
My point is if you are not a Doctor, lawyer, banker etc an average Nigerian do not really regard you, but what we failed to understand is everybody has to contribute his/her own quota for the society to function properly, a private school teacher is paid 30000 per month,if he collect such amount for 30 years that is 10.8 million naira, a subtle amount a fraudster can make in a transaction. The low wages attached to most available jobs in this country leads people to crime consciously and unconsciously.
We have to appreciate jobs we look with disdain in terms of good remuneration and in other morale boosting ways, if this is done internet fraud would not be lucrative in the eyes of most people again.

Good points. But if this was truly a solution then why do people still commit these crimes in a country that has solved all these problems, low wages, low employment, eradication of poverty? There's a reason i called it a "lifestyle" which is what it is right now. Even if you solve all these things, maybe "would be" fraudsters might be discouraged from fraud, but not the ones that are already into it right now.

I didn't collect extra bar from my parents. I don't need a microscope to know that you're a fraudster. You don't waste time to call everyone a fraudster because a thief always thinks everyone is a thief. But the truth is that if everyone was truly a thief, people like you won't live past the age of 16. The only reason people like you exist is because good people continue to look away.

Again, this thread is not for blaming the government, there are over 1000 active threads on politics section doing that right now, so you can air your opinions there.

I have told you in my first post that the best thing about crime is not to start, especially if you are making quick money from it, you will loose appetite to work legally no matter where you travel to. It only takes divine grace to stop a criminal minded fellow that has made consistent cash out.

Be very careful how you throw insults at me because if I let myself loose, you never come back to this thread. If you think the reason I'm not insulting you is because I don't know how to, then leave another insult in your next reply.

And yes, I said families that benefited. It's suppose to be a brutal method of ending fraud, not the rubbish we have now that doesn't work. There has been no improvement in ending such practice.

If I sound insultive am sorry you said it in a very tensed way that made me a lil bit angry someone said this too yesterday beside me that they should catch yahoo boys and those related with them be it family or friends ok good of course they should arrest them and I told that same guy yesterday that what about magu the EFCC boss what has been done to him they upload quickly the numbers and location of the yahoo boy they catch now it's their turn now I was on IG throughout yesterday they didn't upload his picture so tell me what do you have to say about this you're observing the small theif yet you left the biggest theif alone

Well, to me EFCC has no integrity. I know of innocent people that were caught by EFCC and they’re being extorted every month for millions of Naira. To be honest, I don’t think there’s any honest justice system in Nigeria. If EFCC catches you today and you own a Laptop and you are just a graphic designer and nothing else, they will lock you up.

I’m really tired of Nigeria’s case. I

One thing is very certain and that's this going on right now between us... You call me a fraudster and claim righteousness. Thats what has killed this nation. If you follow me then you will know I don't waste a second condemning government actions and inactions that put Nigerians both home and abroad at risk. I care less about your records be it clean or crooked... But please don't come on here and tell decent Nigerians to look away from the ineptitude in governance. Yesterday Kanu Nwankwo led a face mask campaign and people turned up in solidarity and as brave and commendable it is from him I asked one simple question; can he lead same number of persons and say "Enough is Enough!" That we are tired of the corruption eating up the country and her future. Food for thought Sir/Ma

Not trying to justify fraudsters anyways, but I thing arresting the person involved is better. Then rehabilitate them, and if he or she is caught again doing fruad, they should give the person 20years in prison with hard labour. Politicians are not left out also..

One evil at a time, "yahoo yahoo" is more dangerous now as it denies every Nigerian the genuine opportunity to be trusted.

"REHABILITATE", Nigeria is not USA and even USA cannot completely rehabilitate anyone. Too much American movies nor good

You are justifying fraudsters!

Why compare them to politicians? Both are two different types of evil.

The OP proposed a solution to the yahoo yahoo problem, a problem which has been endorsed as good by family members, friends, churches and the society at large.

The Op's solution tackles the society's acceptance of yahoo yahoo and you can only condemn without proposing a better solution! I guess you are just scared of going to jail.

NB: Rehabilitation is a dumb idea. Let's be practical here, this ain't a movie.

When a yahoo boy is caught, arrest the women they’re involved with also and arrest the family members that benefited knowingly or unknowingly from the proceeds. They will get lesser sentence. (The ones that benefitted unknowingly will get just 24 hrs detention)

This technique operates on the principle of the domino effect.

The police won't have to do much work here because fraudsters will be handed over to the police ASAP by their own families and pairs. The only way to eradicate this is to build a very strong stigma around it.

I love your idea and if implemented it will go a long way in reducing this problem that we have.

Dont let anyone guilt you into that politicians are worse argument because it's not true. Fraud has defamed all Nigerians, politicians are only a selected few.

You can't say because the pot is black, no need to talk about the stain on the cabinet. The bottom of the pot will always be black, just as our politicians will always be corrupt but a dirty cabinet will make us look dirty, that is yahoo yahoo and that's how the world views us right now.

You're right. They should also arrest store owners that sold goods to them since some store owners know their customers are yahoo boys... By the time the arrest everyone that benefitted from the crime, there won't be anyone left again hence the end of fraud, yahoo and corruption...

Seneca's proposed method may work for the low level yahoo boy, unfamiliar with the regular necessity of settling the law enforcers and neighborhood vigilante. But the big Dons are often beyond this "reach".

I propose the following in addition...

**Diverting funds into sustainable community development projects after restitution to original victims if traceable, is an additional method.
People will snitch if there's a possibility of their lives being improved by that money often flexxed about. Crab-like mentality abounds everywhere. The 5% snitch-fee brought in earlier in this administration, is a testament. What ever happened to the Ikoyi heist, I often wonder!!!

**But the endemic corruption has to be dealt with, in a consistent transparent fashion. That's where a bottleneck may ensue. Visible examples of corrupt officials have to be made after due diligence, given the intrinsic corruption see in the justice system.

**Simplifying government protocols with e-processing is currently helping... It cuts off the incessant bribes to move papers/files from table to table, previously office to office. ... At the lowest microcosm.

**Having regular visible updates on completed welfare / infrastructure packages, on different arms of government.

**Nothing irritates like flamboyant ceremonies to celebrate the beginning of a project that might lay uncompleted for years/decades. Increased accountability on the part of our public officials, has to be demanded.

**Having direct social welfare/ benevolent packages or access at all levels of government from senators, house of rep members (centrally) governors, state reps to local councillors. ...
These are in use already but largely for personal interests- sustenance of personal armies of miscreants --... Definitely not in a transparent manner..

This particular principle is the underpinning reason for the success of religion holding a large populace, shackled ---- giving me little fish rather than teaching me how to fish!!! ...You see this style of leadership with some popular musicians.

**Reeducating the young ones is a definite urgent must-do. I find alarming that young sec school leavers are being indoctrinated in to the yahoo culture- pictures of uniformed school children buying iphones for the school principal/ teacher - I haven't confirmed the veracity of these reports, but the visible undertones is frightening.

It reminds me of when children were forced to be guerrilla soldiers in conflict areas or to be drug/ weapon mules, eventually adopting active roles in the drug trade.... We really, as a nation, don't want to chart those frontiers particularly on the net.

** Reviving our vocational schools. The economic success of some Eastern Europeans in UK was underpinned by their vocational skills. It was mandatory to learn a skill in high school. This proved invaluable as it allowed them entry into a job area that was underserved ...... whilst waiting to get through professional exams to allow for practice of their original university degrees.

We need to start a step at a time, increase our conscionable objections to this growing status quo and effect consistent change.
