Boss are you too putting in for online classes for this FALL-SEMESTER 2020? But my fear is that how is it going to be because I need my GPA badly oooo and I don't want to be underperformed due to many factors like :
Bad network during the lecturers
No Light or NEPA take Light during the lecturer
Battery low and so on.
Hope you people get my points?

There is also the issue of time difference. Will you be able to cope taking lectures at odd hours of the day and night?
This is the main challenge for me.

Lol!

My dear mark your attendance and be happy in it all. The truth of the matter is that some person’s here that got their F1 visa and come to the States here to study suddenly becomes arrogant with how they answer prospective students here.

You guys can make your opinions without resorting to arrogance. That you are here in the States does not mean your life is better off than those back in Nigeria.
Let’s learn to communicate without being rude or arrogant.

Once again, my dear, mark your register and be happy. Don’t mind all these arrogant people jare.

Not sure it is time to DM me. Let's talk here, so that others will learn.

Let's talk about what you plan to do, with that question in mind?
What is your plan?

It is not that i really have a hidden agenda about going to the US, but we all know that schooling in the US is more beneficial than doing it online.
In the US i Will be schooling and work and together with my stipends to support myself financially, forget about that i have sponsor remember am going to be the one sort myself out for about 80% of my expenses because I am a working class here with wife and kid too.
So going to the US will make the studies very easy for me and i Will also be able to cater for my wife and kid that i left behind here in Nigeria out what I am earning from the part-time job I will be doing there now. At all at all I must be able to pay for their house rent and feedings here in Nigeria now.

But schooling online here in Nigeria, all these benefits would be lost now. This is my plan oooo

Kuku defer your admission to Spring if the US embassy in Nigeria do not open for you to get your visa. Taking the Fall classes online can work against you just like @Fairheart pointed out. The visa Officer interviewing you may ask why not stay back in Nigeria and finish the program since you have started it online.

If you have a GA, ask your DGS if the GA can be transferred to Spring for you. Believe me, doing the online program from Nigeria will be very difficult for you ranging from timezone difference, the unreliable nature of Nigerian network providers with regards to data, you may not also be the type that catch up with online learning too (I just guessed).

So my obvious advice is, defer to Spring and ask your DGS if your GA can be transferred to the Spring semester (if you have a GA).

Oh no, please don't misunderstand me. I never inferred you have a hidden agenda at all. The truth is, I even commend your planning to take your first semester from Nigeria, and if you ask me, I have no opinion against that. I am just looking at implication of getting the visa after you complete the first semester. Also, it is MBA, which is currently taken up by "online program" by most US universities. I hope you get me now. Nevertheless, let us be sanguine about things.

Please DM me and let's talk. Didn't know I have been talking to bros grin grin

Personally I think you should defer to spring especially since you're paying yourself and you have a family.

As for if you're asked why you didn't just continue with the online classes instead. Just google, "why onsite classes are better than online classes", you should find an answer for the V.O with that.

While I have already buried this matter, I want to say that I agree with you. If you have been placed in a position to know better, you don't use that opportunity to talk down on others.

This life can take sharp turns that you may never see coming. It's just what it is. There is a way to talk to people and pass across your message without firing gunshots. You don't bring grenades to a broom stick battle because you feel you know more.

Keep the arrogance down.

Is that even arrogance or just ignorance? Told him the same thing few weeks ago! As if students here don’t know the situation...They know the timing is horrible,no need to constantly remind people about it!

Anyways, speaking of embassy! I feel like alot of embassies/VAC’S will open after Nigeria resumes international flights which i think should be mid/july ending!

Someone quoted where I tried to explain that ICE has nothing to do with embassy reopening and she also tried to say am preventing people from having hopes, like I have a personal agenda against optimism and I responded, then am being rude.

Some of you guys want people to just be telling you want you want to hear. But unfortunately not everyone is wired that way.

Thank God I didn't post this else people would have said I should allow people to be hopeful.

If I have said here that the EU posted their directives last week about reopening and Nigeria isn't on the list of countries that will be allowed into the EU, some persons would have come here to say am a pessimist.

Truth is a bitter pill. Am weeks away from having an expired visa, I need a visa much more than most people here before am stuck in this country without a visa but I had to swallow the bitter pill that if i graduate without fixing my visa issues I might not be able to leave this country for a long time even in emergency.

I think if Nigeria’s government can show signs of handling the COVID-19 situation well at least, Nigerians can be allowed to travel into countries like those in EU and embassies in Nigeria can consider opening gradually. And for US, I don’t think all US embassies worldwide will open at same time. If some countries don’t feel safe enough or have decline in cases, embassies there might not open on time.
The workers at embassies are humans and have family who care about them, if they have concerns about their safety amidst this pandemic, they might not be willing to start visa interviews.

International flights have been happening gradually to and from places where COVID-19 cases are well managed.

Your point is accurate to an extent but it's entirely not in the hands of NG govt, even before we had 25k+ cases many countries in Europe banned int'l flights from here into their own territory that's even worse than ours.

It's more about the countries issuing the visas, they need to get their houses together before allowing foreigners come in. Our mortality rate is still low compared to other countries.

Again, if Covid-19 started from here(Africa) they'll probably ban us for many years until there's a vaccine. Ebola virus of 2014 is an example, many European countries banned int'l flights from west African countries, including those that weren't affected as much.

It's more of a discrimination thingy to me

If people wey get experience dey tell you something you go dey argue because say you get data, phone and nairaland account.

That subsection you highlighted in your picture refers to current students with visas that left the country before the lockdown (during spring break) and will be trying to return for fall semester or incoming students that got visa before closure of embassies. Nothing concerns ICE and embassy.

Embassy and visa are sole responsibility of USCIS. though both agencies falls under Department of homeland security (DHS) their duties are clearly distinguished.

When you hear DHS use the word "admittance", they mean Visa, legal entry and staying lawful in the country, if USCIS use the word "admittance" it may then mean Visa, if CBP use the word "admittance" it means entry into the Country and if ICE use the word "admittance" it means lawful stay in the country. Don't mix them up

That directive have added more uncertainty to the whole F1 process especially for upcoming fall semester. In a communique issue out by a school, ICE will be clarifying a section of that directive in the coming days.

So stop dreaming and trying to explain something you have no idea about. ICE issuing out that directive were not trying to help embassy reopen because embassy is the sole responsibility of USCIS that are currently fighting their own battle with solvency

Guyy, small small o.

Many countries were just banning outsiders when everything just started and was still new.....I feel they will start looking at those handling it well and having decline when considering those to open to.
And yea...get their houses together before bringing people in especially for US....Florida has replaced New York now, having alarming number of cases.

It will all be fine. There will be calm after the storm.

Well, unfortunately, discrimination can never end so far humans continue to have differences. Even discrimination happens in Nigeria.
And unfortunately, some countries will be at the bottom of the ladder and politics will always play.

Let's keep hoping for the best.

This looks like a not so pleasant information albeit its the truth.

The last paragraph is not helping matters, knowing that Nepal's active COVID19 cases and death rate are far less than that of Nigeria's (assuming the general population factor of both countries is negligible). Nepal is not in the Top 60 worst hit countries yet they wouldnt be considered immediately.

N10k for data probably won't even cut it, I've been taking so many online courses (personal development) since the lockdown started and I've needed more than that. The cheapest you can get with N10k in Nigeria is 40GB as far as I know. Honestly having to study in Nigeria will be a real pain.

I'll eventually have to ask my supervisor himself but I'd like to hear opinions please. I was admitted for a masters with a fellowship, including both tuition and living expenses. During my interview my supervisor made it clear, he wants "no work" for me for my first three quarters so I can focus on studying, and then contingent on my performance, I'll join him in research as an RA for my second year.

Now with these new rules and all, if I have to take classes in Nigeria do you think it's possible I get paid my fellowship stipend here? Since if I was in the US I wouldn't have to work either. I browsed through the department website and apparently cheques are paid to the address listed in my student portal every two weeks (if I was in the US). The only available fact I have now is that the President of the University assured all students who've been offered financial aid in any form that the University will honor their promises in spite of COVID-19. But there's no assurance of that with deferring and they'd have to check with the specific office that offered them aid if they defer.

So my question, has anybody here ever had this happen to them before? Or at least were in Nigeria receiving remote payment for work? What do I need to do to successfully receive the money *if* this is possible?

I really don't want to defer because I'm in it for the long haul, I expect to be at this school for the next 5 years because I'm pursuing a PhD, and would like to get the coursework out of the way as soon as possible. So I really want to know if I could get paid, because studying without any income is not possible for me, I'd have to get a job which would mean deferring.

I saw #8750 for 42GB Glo. That's an average of 1.4GB per day.
- I won't be receiving classes everyday
- I intend to use my phone for zoom which would minimize data instead of if I'm using laptop
- My classes are 1 or 2 a day, rarely 3.

So I think it'll be enough or if more than that, small.

if you know Nigerians in Stanford. Talk to them, they'd have more knowledge with this.

Also, it's important you contact the fellowship and send them a carefully thought, emotionally appealing E-mail. If they agree, you can contact the Nigerians there if it's possible they receive the check on your behalf and send it to your account through Sendwave app since you have no US account yet.

Nothing is certain so you have to take your chances. They might even agree to go through the stress of paying it directly to you.
