News loading indeed Sterling Bank that pays a paltry dividend of 3kobo once in 2 years is bursting your head. By the time it gets to sub 50kobo it's then you realise you've been hit by stray bullets

This is just the beginning; they're becoming so irritatingly non-responsive. If you don't ''JiJo'', you don't need Morgan Capital!

I'm even wondering about their ability to sustain or improve on their Dividend in this climate.. undecided as dividend is essential for long term play (for me).
Looks like it closed at N2.61 today.

DexterousOne:
I'm thinking same.

UCAP for me is a buy and hold
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Omexonomy: 3:16pm On Jul 13, 2020

They may not sustain their dividend payout RATE

But a dividend payout is for sure..

That one is not in doubt

Please stay on only strong dividend paying stocks. By Dividend paying stocks, I mean companies that have consistently been paying dividends over the last 10 years.

I wouldn't be too certain as anything is possible in the markets.
Some firms have been known to borrow just to pay dividend and put up an air of normalcy....then suddenly you begin to hear in the news of how the top management jumped out with golden parachutes.
Always exercise a healthy dose of skepticism and once a story looks too good to be true then its actually not true.

NSE seems disconnect from the global markets that has been bullish since April 2020. The reasons I do not know.

Some are making ATH right now.

You nailed it, madam. From now until COVID-19 leaves us, even if one must JiJo, the trading must be done in dividend-paying stocks else it might lead to PREMIUM tears. For me and my household, any stock on the NSE that doesn't pay a reasonable dividend(not a kobo-kobo dividend) has no place in my portfolio. #ICAN'TKILLMYSELF. cool

Oga Rabbi just reiterated same. Please, stay on healthy dividend-paying stocks only. At least, if COVID erases your paper profit, you're certain of the dividend payout.

#StayInvested.

I spoke about the expectations of a bullish era earlier. Except the CBN resolves the divergence between the FX black market and official market no serious foreign investor will bring their funds into this country. Even local investors would rather observe where naira ends before committing more funds.

I bought UCAP at N2.50 end of last month. I'll buy more if it drops further(No thanks to COVID). As a long term investor, the moment you notice the numbers don't make sense anymore, you simply sell and seek other available opportunities.

One should not be emotionally attached to any stock.

Chief the reason is the FX debacle

Even Joberg and Malawi exchange indices have recovered form their march low. I think it's only a matter of time. It has to align at some point.

Yeah. Until CBN clears the backlog of FX demand by offshore investors. One major way we can do this will be when our major importer of our crude oil India open up their economy back. They account for over 70% of our export. Netherlands, Brazil etc. account for the rest.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 8:26pm On Jul 13, 2020
I guess portfolio investors prefer to watch from the sidelines for now... with our non -existent healthcare system ,+500 new covid19 infections per day on average (recorded, not to talk of that not covered by NCDC), they probably anticipate an implosion followed by a broken economy. My thoughts... i may be wrong.

But I don't know how else to rationalise the NSE and the absence of a Bullish run ..in spite of the number under priced stocks, the opportunities they present and the trend with global markets.

I didn't think that by now.....we wouldn't have felt the impact of the over -subscribed SUKUK bond 5 weeks ago in our NSE. I thought a substantial amount of monies returned would have found its way into NSE30.

...Awon boys don divert their returned monies to other markets... grin

Yea a 'mercenary mindset' is required....
As at 1pm today i wasn't entirely convinced about UCAP , so i dipped into Dangcem with available funds and increased my holdings at N123.60..
while i watch UCAP this week to fully optimize my entry point.
