They don't even have to breach any account. They can speak directly to those Twitter employees. Stuff is during that work at home period, those employees had access to the company's systems at home. Any spouse , boyfriend or girlfriend with fraudulent intention could pull that off.
Social engineering hacking does not need any superior computer skills to execute. It is as simple as logging into your Nairaland account and changing your profile picture as long as you have the password to login.

Bt I’m 100% sure Nigerian scammers are on twitter or hacking profiles the day I saw a pop msg on uba’s Official twitter account. It was a a dumby page to verify ur bvn right there on UBA’s official handle. I was like is this a joke or are they not seeing this pop up page emanating from the handle. It’s was an unusual verification page asking for very personal details to be imputed just to verify ur bvn for no purpose. Lol

I immediately knew it was a hackers phishing page. I forgot to screen save it. So
Not surprised by this at all. Twitter has been compromised long ago or atleast 2weeks back when I noticed the unusual.

So I can’t completely rule out Nigerian connections either in this.

I never said the hacker was a Nigerian, it might be anybody... 1. Hackers hide their identities 2. They look for loop holes before launching their attacks.. that's why most big companies like FB and co pay thousands of dollars to bug hunters and pentesters.. we are humans and can never be perfect even twitter, Facebook and co still have bugs.. if things like this don't happen how would they strengthen their security

This wasn't the first time Elon Musk's account would be hacked. I remember few months ago I saw a similar message from his verify twitter account referring people to his website. I was confused because that is purely scam.
