I went for monthly shopping and spent over 100k on provisions and childcare items. Put them in a barrow and was following the barrow closely. Told him to wait while i buy cashew nut and he stopped. Took my eyes off him for maybe one minute and he dissapered. I searcher the whole mareket foor over 4hours, reported to market security . . . No sign of him.

That's how I lost everything I bought that day.

Had to come back the next day to buy the exact same items. So annoying and frustrating.

It happened in Lagos. Ikotun Market to be precise.

A very fat, dark woman with prominent tribal scars washed her child's anus, dried her hands on her wrapper and wanted to sell Ijebu garri to me with the same disease infested hands. She even scooped a few grains for "tasting", claiming her people make the best drinking garri in the country.

I came to a conclusion that moment. They are all the same, extremely dirty with zero personal hygiene.

Tufia!!!

Rolling on the floor right now. Very funny experience lol grin

I bought some items at Lagos Island and the store owner assured me that the Alabaeru girl standing near his store was a regular helper and I that could trust her with my goods. So I gave her the items to carry to my driver at the park. She called others to help since I bought a lot of things. To my surprise, when I got to my car, there was nothing. I immediately went back to the shop and informed the owner who introduced me to this alabaeru. He denied knowing them and said I gave them the goods at my own risk.
I search the whole market but did not find them. Fast forward to 2 months later, I went to mile2 owode mechanic village to fix my car and saw the alabaeru girl there. I held her and called police.
She was arrested and she confessed of diverting the goods. She later took us to the shops in Oshodi and Mushin where she had sold the items.
I recovered everything.

Nigerian markets are filled with drama. Today i will like to share some of my annoying market experience.

1. Last year i was passing through the market but was blocked by an igbo man that i should come and buy his bedsheets, i told him i was just passing. While we were altercating another man came and met us that i should buy shoes from his shop i told them i was not interested. They both started dragging me each telling me to go to his shop i angrily told them to back off that they are harrassing me and they stop.

2. I went to buy shoes on a faithful day when a man told me he knows where i can buy correct shoes. He took me to the place and after buying the shoe, he told me the shoe can easy get spoiled that he will take me to the guy that will help me fix shoe nails for free. We went there and i ask the guy hope its free he said yes. After he added the shoe nails to my shoe he told me it was 1500 naira. I was flabbergasted and petplexed, i told him didnt he said it was free. He said he doesn’t like such nonsense thats it's the first one that is for free. Before i know many people gathered around because we were seriously quarelling. Then the initial man that brought me there said he will pay 1000 naira and i will pay the remaining 500naira i was angry. I just had to close my eyes and pay that money.

3. Another day i bought some pair of shoes and while coming back. A man who was sitting down was shouting bros, bros i am talking to you come and enter my shop. In my mind i was like "see this man o is it jazz you are using that will make you enter my shop.

So, whats your annoying market Experience?

I wanted to pass this post over until I saw the second experience. It reminded me of a similar one I had at Aswani Market 14-15 years ago.

Bought a pair of faux leather flip-flops for N600 (a good deal, I thought). A fellow soon came around to solicit me to consider adding nails for durability. I asked how much and he said N50, which I thought was just about what Hausa shoe menders would charge. I gave him the go-ahead.

After nailing six points, he said my bill was N600. I was like what! shocked Told me the back and front parts of each nail was N50 each. cheesy I was mad! But I couldn't start a fight because I was somewhat a "church boy" and that kept me from losing it to an extent (same factor made me practically pay N500 for fare from Ikeja to Ojota yesterday, ouch!).

It can be quite hard to be a peaceful, easy-going person in this Lagos.

After i bought some goods at a market on a market day so I.wasn't having much cash on me. I saw a shoe seller and went to price a particular high heeled slippers I liked. One woman and her daughter were there checking out different shoes.. I got one and she immediately picked interest in my slippers. The money I had on me wasn't enough, so I went back to the car to get more..

Getting back to pay, this woman had dropped the ones she was holding and was now clutching my own. I said madam, you were here before and never showed interest. She said sebi you never pay for am. I looked at the seller, he pleaded with this woman, she was adamant!... Chai... That thing vex me en!

Its like some people don't know what to choose, it is when you choose something that their eye will now open... Another time I saw an evening gown on a mannequin. I got inside the shop and met other ladies. Immediately I asked them to bring in the dress, they picked interest and this time, I was observant and didn't let go of my dress... They were like madam, sebi you don't have interest again? I wanted to say mind your business abi what concerns you.... But I paid and see the jealousy for their eye! It was like how manage we didn't see that particular dress? Lolsss!/ grin

When u want to visit such market, dress like "sister"kinda dressing preferably with cheap wears. They will leave u alone. U will also have a better chance at haggling prices with them.
It's very annoying and irritating but you can outsmart them especially in big markets.
