PETERiCHY:

SEPLAT was selling at circa N150 in Jan 2016

BARGAIN HUNTERS TAKE NOTE!

...I will not be surprised to hear Peroo had already bought SEPLAT at around N300 while calling out for Bargain Hunters to watch out at N150!!!

Understanding price actions might possibly help with a good entry price for Seplat.

From the 2016 LOW "Sir Peter" mentioned, the SP rallied to break the swing-high at (a) - Technically, this is a positive momentum. However, since then price has made series of lower-low & lower-high (Chart 1). This is a general outlook of stocks on NSE - Chart 2 shows SEPLAT comparison with NSE all share index.

Since price was rejected in Jan 2016 & a pullback was also rejected in August 2016, the intervals between the Highs of January's Price -Rejection & August Price-Rejection is now left by the SP as LIQUIDITY VOID. Any price rejection within this intervals will likely see the stock picking up momentum to the upside. If SEPLAT could end this month bullish, then, I will call the intermediate "bottom" at 300 (there about). & further price within the highlight a good buy as well.

For SEPLAT retrace N150 again! will mean the company is not doing well (financially/management) and I personally will not encourage anyone to buy the stock at that price until there is strength in the stock price again. Bargain or no bargain - it will be too risky to buy at N150 again!!!

But sir, if the sector is a growing one, paying regular dividends may not be that important.

At that stage such companies might be better than me at reinvesting the dividends.

Anyway, there are no such sectors or companies in the NSE right now.

In Nigeria, what you get is your own, the company should have dividend reinvestment programme for interested shareholders.

We have a lot of audio earnings with no cash to back them.

50% dividend payout is okay for a company in a growth rate

Do we expect further upward movement after the profit taking?
My personal opinion:
It may take a while except the positive momentum is sustained and there are more good news coming in to lift share prices the more.
Ucap did around 70% upside already (from 1.80/1.90 to 3.24).
I expected Zimams to get my point xtyday cos I didn't want to say it directly but he didn't.

Caveat: Pls this is just my own opinion, Mr. Market has a mind of its own, it may still proceed on the journey or be ranging for a while or stay at a car park......all depends.....

You are seriously reading Rule #1 by Phil Town. Please don't forget the market you are investing on. To the best of my knowledge, this market isn't a market you just buy a stock and forget. Rule #1 was based on US stock market. Please don't forget that. Thank God you realized on your last statement.

I understood Mcy. I didn't anticipate a reversal so quickly though.

What I did was split my planned volume into 3 parts. (20%,30%,50%) . Bought the first tranch - 20%. @N3.28 UCap. Did same for UBA @6.57.

Will dip in again for the 2nd tranch - 30% at sub N2.70 and N6.25 for UCap and UBA respectively. And the final 50% further down.

What happens if my criteria for 2nd tranch and 3rd tranch is not met? I'll stick with dividends. Both coys meet my 15% dividend yield criteria to hold (at my entry prices). So I can close shop at my 20% entry volume and enjoy dividends only till prices head south again enabling me increase volumes if all else remains constant (coys doing well.. growing EPS and paying dividends).

I used same strategy with Dangcem following an initial purchase of 20% of my planned volume at N141.
Successfully averaged down to N126 following this strategy.

My safety net... Is that the coy must be strong dividend paying coys.

SOME SALIENT QUESTIONS
Are you afraid at the mention of retirement?
Do you spend and then plan to save/invest the leftover?
You don’t delay some gratifications?
You don’t practice a little frugality?
You don’t have any passive income?
You must always be at the office/business place before any cash enter your pocket/bank account?
When you are expecting cash or cash gets to your hand the first thing that comes to mind is to acquire a liability (enjoy)?
All you know about investment is hearsay no personal discoveries (dd)?
You don’t know what compounding interest is all about?
You don’t bother to hear/read economic information around you?
You don’t bother much about safety of your funds but attracted only by rate to an investment?
… the list goes on
If you answer yes to all or most of the above questions it means you (are):
1. need to set your priorities right
2. not investing
3. not investing enough
4. not investing properly
5. you need rigging of your investment horizon
6. you need to start investing as a matter of urgency
7. You are taking uncalculated risk.

However, if you are reading this and interested in similar piece it also means you are already in the right path or you just discovered the right path and you will need to continue or start to follow as the case may be.

I don hear u nah. I maintain that reading is the fastest way to achieve mastery.

Before February 2020, I knew zero about stocks, but I am currently 40% up on some of my investments with zero school fees. If that doesn't impress you nothing will.

It is a jungle alright but same rules ( risk-reward, TA, FA etc. ) apply.

Qwention I ask u, u no answer. Please read d book first before putting out erroneous comments.

Just so u know, if I strictly follow Rule #1 no stocks on the NSE would be worthy. No stock I analysed so far, passed the big five test. The valuation method he detailed in d book, is too conservative so much that u can hardly see any stock on the NSE trading close to that price.
