I have always thought that being referred to as a black man was more or less an insult. How come they are 'white' and we are 'black'. I have always preferred the word African. skin cells die all the time and are left on the skin surface, the skin also secretes sebum (skin oil, incase you aren't familiar with the term).

over time (let's say a day) this mixture of dead cells and sebum builds up on the skin. if you use a white handkerchief or paper towel to clean it off it'll appear like dirt (normally it comprises of dirt, but due to your scenario of being inside all day I removed that from the mix).

it's easy to think this is dirt as in loamy soil but in reality it's not.
