Reading this brought back old memory of same that was done to me in that same Alaba, the same format, they had to force me to take another sound system, which any time I see, I feel so bad, eventually I had to sell it so as to have a peace of mind

Yes sir...I will shut up only when you can prove to me that these people are not guilty of this fraudulent trait I claim they all posses. A typical igbo man before me is already a suspect of the worst criminal endeavour, whenever I have to do any transaction with them, I take extra measure to make sure I'm not counting my losses after every deal.

I don't care if you are igbo or not, you can go to hell. My last experience with this group was so unpalatable, the hatred I develop aftermath is so intense. You can start ranting from now till cow comes home, I care less. I won't reply you after this anyways.

Stereotping a whole tribe because of your experience with a few says alot about your myopic outlook.

The entire Germanic nation should be annihilated because of Hitler right?

The entire British empire should be destroyed because of the crimes against humanity that the colonial officers committed against every nation they colonised including Nigeria, South Africa, China, America prior to the American civil war.

The entire Belgian empire should be wiped off the face of the earth because of the crimes that King Leopold committed against the People of Congo baaa

I was just trying to tell you that the handwriting was on the wall, they were going to find a way to rob you in broad-day light , yet you trusted them way too much, you even went out to withdraw or so. Things happen in seconds not to talk of minutes, better luck next time.

Didn't you read the instructions the package that tells you more about this what you were buying before you paid for it?

Nigerian businesses are unregulated and institutions are unregulated, a scrupulous people can take sanity into their hands. Even the judiciary is unregulated in Nigeria. No rules, no policies, no guidance, no standard, no law, and no order.

Say home theater dey no work with light ,na only gen. Nawa o. So if light dey,u go off light turn on your gen. See stupid excuse. My guy avoid tokunbo or buy online, ah wetin.
Alaba boys don show u strong tin

This is my problem with an average Nigerians. We stylish encourage fraudulent act. What is bad is bad. Nothing is wrong if the guy price it at 10kobo, all the seller needs to do is to tell the guy no. Is that simple, saying guy why youself go buy H.T for 25k is wrong, that is what he has, if the seller is not comfortable he should reject the offer and say "oga e no gree 25k, plz buy from me you no go see am buy at that price". It is that simple.
I have been a victim in 2008 and I promised myself not to enter Alaba to buy not even a stone.

embarassedi went to Alaba international market to buy a set of Tokunbo Home Theatre. Luckily/ unfortunately for me i asked around and i was directed to a shop where i would find my choice. I got to the shop and i specifically told them I want a SAMSUNG Home Theater and the search began. They tested 3 diferrent sets but the last one got my attention and I asked for the price.

The seller (shop owner) told me it was 55k and i negotiated it to 25k and he asked me pay. I requested for his account details but he declined saying he doesn't take transfers. I quickly went to use POS, came back and asked for the SAMSUNG SETS i had priced be tested to avoid foul play. It was tested and i confirmed it. I paid, receipt was issued to me but without going through my receipt, I wrote my name and signed because i never suspected scam.

Now, it was time for me to leave with my purchases and the boy boy told me "the engine/DVD to the home theater i bought does not support or work with electricity but strictly works for only generator ". I asked him to repeat himself and he did. The statement didn't make sense to me. He then suggested he could swap the engine/DVD of the SAMSUNG Home Theater i bought for another one that uses electricity. I sensed foul play and asked him why he didn't tell me these before making payment.

Note: the owner of the shop had gone out when boy boy was telling me this.
Luckily, he came back to meet us arguing. I narrated what his boy told me about the sound system they sold for me he affirmed to it that the engine/DVD doesn't use electricity. I got confused and demanded for a refund. These guys refused. Insisting I take another DVD...i refused either that i preferred what i bought. They refused me going with what I bought. This infuriated a lot of noise and here comes in an elderly man who claimed to be the landlord of the shop.

He asked me what was wrong, i told him and he slapped the Boy boy. At this point, i knew I was being scammed but was helpless as well. It was just only me against Alaba boys. The elderly man asked me to calm down that he was there to help me out bla bla bla and requested to see the receipt that was issued to me me. Lo and behold, the subwoofer and the other 3 small speakers was not included in the receipt. They only wrote the engine/DVD they claimed doesn't use nepa light and even boldly put NO WOOFER & NO SPEAKERS. (indirect or indirectly, i only paid 25k for just the DVD player )

The truth was, i never saw these errors before the arrival of the elderly man. he pointed out the errors and finally told me they don't refund money in ALABA that it was all a trick and the trick was for me to pay any amount cos the sound system i bought was more than 25k that i would have to add more money for me to go with it. I insisted i don't have more money to add and they insisted i take a Chinese product. I no gree.

To cut it short, i finally found out the elderly man was part of them. His job was to distract and calm their victim down. At the end of it all, i only got the subwoofer and 3 small speakers. The ENGINE/DVD was not given to me.

This was my sad experience today in the hands of some heartless Nigerians.

That is the face of the SHOP OWNER. TRUE CALLER shows his name as BEN.

acunnon, do you know this man?

Bro sorry sha but home theater no be for children. You should have gone for that Chinese JAC if you can't afford home theater.

It's DVD or Blu-ray machine alone is sold for 50k tokumbo depending on the specs and hi-fi

No one should be scammed but people keep getting scammed on daily basis. If I asked you to invest 50k and get 150k after one week, will you do it? Don't worry I know your answer.
Bottom line is, if it sounds too good a deal, exercise utmost caution! Victims of such scams usually have one thing in common. Enough said.

[s] What is tribalistic here, 99% of the traders in these markets are Ibos, because they will never rent a shop to another tribe. Have you ever seen a Yoruba Man, aboki, or Calabar Man selling in these places [/s]?

Oga keep your tribalistic mouth shut!

I WAS PLAYED THE SAME GAME!

MINE WAS EVEN 50" TV SAMSUNG THE ROOKIE EVEN TOOK ME TO 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS SELLING TOKUMBO VERSION OF SAME TV I CAME TO BUY BRAND NEW AND HE CONVINCED ME TO BUY TOKUMBO AT VERY LOW PRICE.

THE STORY LONG SHA - I EVEN ONCE WANTED TO WRITE ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE HERE BUT LAZINESS NEVER ALLOWED ME.

I LOST 75K TO THEM IN SIMILAR GAME OF GIVING ME RECEIPT AND AFTER I MADE TRANSFER THE OGA LEFT AND THE BOY START CODING ME BY TELLING ME THE PROBLEM WITH THE TV THAT I DID NOT NOTICE.

LAST LAST SHA! I LEFT THE TV FOR THEM AND GO.

ALL OF THEM ARE YORUBAS AND THEY ARE ALL SAME GANG FROM THE FIRST SHOP THE IDIOT TOOK ME TO, TILL THE LAST ONE.

AND THE FUNNY THING IS - ALL THE SURROUNDING SHOPS KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING BUT ARE AFRAID TO CONFRONT THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL CULTISTS.

one guy i told about my experience in alaba there even told me they have killed some shop owners for trying to expose them to the public - he went further to tell me that the chairman of the alaba market gan is in the same cult with them and they always settle police thats why no police will follow you to the market to make any arrest.

THEY ARE SO MUCH IN ALABA, COMPUTER VILLAGE AND BALOGUN MARKET OPERATING SHOPS JUST TO SCAM PEOPLE AND NO BODY IS ARRESTING THEM.

The world isn't an ideal place. It's a real world! There'll always be fraudsters! Even in holy places. And getting angry won't stop the next victim from being scammed. People hack systems and siphon huge amounts of money- police and law enforcements are ever ready to protect them. That's REAL world for you.
However, we need to always try to be one step ahead of them. Be street wise. Most importantly, if it's too good to be true, my man, by all means, japa.

You sef no try. In Nigeria you have to have an idea of the price of what you want. Something of 55k you priced 25k and they agreed, that was where your wahala started. These traders you can't just beat them at their dirty game. Sorry you hear. Next time know your Market 101, which is:
1. Nigeria is a jungle
2. Traders no get joy
3. Have an idea of the price of what you want.
4. With 3 in mind, don't price stupidly. If you even price 2k, some will accept but be sure it's only wire you will go home with.
5. Price in 3 places and settle for one. Never buy in the first place you prized.
makes alot of sense, he musta thought dammmm!!! what a bargain! let me rush and pay for it before someone else does. grin as you ve rightly said, that was where his problem (greed) started. they woulda still have accepted 2k? you don't mean it!! cheesy

Same thing happens to me 2013 ...just newly finished NYSC ,so I needed relocation for job stuff...one of brother built his house around agbara area but before he built his house ,he rented a room selfcom around lasu gate...where he told me to stay n continue the rent bill....so I need a sound system at 20k.

Lasu gate to Alaba market isn't that far, so I went there buy and about to leave, so I thought of going to buy a polythene to put it...before a came back they have actually removed LG logo to another Sound system. Them said I fit change it...I leave without the system but with receipt.

On getting to my bus top, some area guys ( agberos) that usually disturb me for evening adult education saw me hailing me corper! Corper!! We don go buy book and pen oo...this evening we must sabi speak English like wole Soyinka...as I no smile or laugh..they as me wetin happen, I said they scam me for Alaba... They ask of the Shop or Lane... I just give them the receipt... 5hours later...the original LG UK was brought to me
