Nobody can answer this question except for the US embassy. Unfortunately, they haven't said anything about this

Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.
TWoods:

All the information you need is available online... not sure why Nigerians pretend that its some specialized knowledge known only to a sacred few.

The speed at which you get a green card after your PhD depends on you and your employer.

1. First step... finish your phd and worry less about a green card. It isn't difficult for a Nigerian at all.
2. After your phd, get your OPT, your school's office of international students should help you with this and any questions you have regarding the process.
3. Get a job, make sure your employer understands that you intend to apply for a GC. Note, the GC process (via employment) is your employers. You don't apply on your own (well unless you're going through the National Interest Waiver process - which is more challenging).
4. Once you get a job, your employer will apply for an H1B on your behalf. The H1B gives you more breathing space for 3-6 years, during which time you should be applying for your GC.
5. Your employer basically takes care of the rest. The process is divided into 2 - the I-140 and I-485 stages. The I-140 stage depends on whether you have enough experience and qualifications to apply for EB1 or EB2 (you can do EB3 but this is not really for you since you have a phd). The EB1 route is far easier but the EB2 route is also ok so long as your employer is willing to put in the effort. - it requires an intermediate Perm step by the Department of Labor.
6. Once your I-140 is approved (should take about 1 year), you're basically close to the finish line.
7, Apply for your I-485, barring any backlogs at the USCIS, this is usually a 1-year process and should be more of a formality. After this is approved, you should get your GC in the mail in a few weeks. Your family is automatically part of your application so they get GCs too. Chances are you and your family may need to sit for an interview but this is relatively simple.

8. And this is the most important part - DO NOT take public support (e.g. medicaid) or break the law, both will affect you at your I-485 stage. Do not drink and drive... a DUI automatically revokes your visa and you have to come back to Nigeria to take care of it.

Overall from start to finish, you're looking at 3 years depending on your employer.

It's an easy process... spend more time making the best of your phd and good luck.

As a subtle advice to believe everything you read on the internet especially NL
@nigimmigration on twitter is very active. Do the right thing and call your centre out on twitter, your passport will come out.
We shouldn't enable corruption.

Registration for css profile is $25, additional report cost $16, do i need to pay for registration if i already have a waiver code from a college? I'll be applying to 8 colleges tho. How do i use the institution specific fee waiver code?

Also the 8 colleges I'm applying to have an acceptance rate of 20-30% respectively, is that safe enough to secure admission as an international student?

I also renewed my passport myself last month. It took 5 days.
Let's stop enabling corruption, the Twitter handle works very well. I can testify to that.
My observation (I might wrong), people having this delay are those that paid people to do it for them.
Just follow the instruction on their website, it is not that difficult.
NIS is trying to reduce corrupt practices in their operation but we the customers are making excuse for the corruption to continue.

Yes, I did it in Lagos. And I also know people that did it the same way in Ibadan, Ilorin and Abia. My guess is that you just want to dash people money but you can use that extra money to do give away for people on this platform. Lool.
My brother, just do it yourself and use Twitter to follow up. Things have changed in NIS honestly.

I can testify too

Didnt even use twitter but I was encouraged from the thread on Nairaland so I followed the steps kept my head down at Ikoyi office and went straight to servicom

Came back two weeks later went to collections - didnt talk to anyone. Submitted my slip to the officer who was addressing everyone at collections area.

Waited till they called my name

I was very ready to use twitter in fact I had memorised the names of the officers who attended to me there just in case.

I didnt go about talking in public that I did selfservice cos there was blatant agent payments going on there so I wasnt going to let someon's greed spoil my blues.
I did not have any desperation money to dash any one so please dont renew your passport when you're anxious

1. You can only use a waiver code for one college. Ask the other colleges for waiver codes, or if you can submit the ISFAA instead.

2. It depends on how much you are looking for. 20 - 30% acceptance rate should be schools like Vassar, W&L, Tufts, etc, but you have to realize that as an international student potentially looking for financial aid, the acceptance rate for any school is far lower than that. Some of these schools have a financial aid budget to cater for only one or two Nigerians per year with funding, and hundreds are applying. So, you have to be super competitive. Another option would be to pick a very nice and suitable school and hit it ED.

Pls can you show me a "sample letter from a counselor to show that college application fee presents hardship to the students family", my counselor has not done anything related to US admission.
I tried google searching but i couldn't find anything.

Concerning the ISFAA i already have the form but i have to enter the list of universities I'll be applying to, but only 7 spaces are available but I'm applying to 8 only 2 of them use the isfaa should i mention the remaining 6 in the ISFAA form? or i should mention Only the ones that use the ISFAA?

Thanks.

Brotherly please do not go and fill 7 schools in your ISFAA form as that will be used to determine your admission decision. Take for example you want to get some large amount of financial aid from me as n institution and you have listed over 6 schools you also want to go, me seeing that and also considering your transcripts and all the rest I might just let you go as you still have other schools you are applying to and you’ve already indicated it on the form, so i might be like if he doesn’t get it from me he can get it from the others.

N/B: the scope of adding those schools to the form only works when they are Top-Notch Institution (IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS) and also with your very strong application materials like GMAT,GRE,
TOEFL/IELTS,
ESSAY,
SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT
CV/RESUMÈ
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

So after seeing those strong credentials with Grace they will hold on tight to you cause they know you’re an Hot cake

:Please be wise ✌
