Hahahaha!

You should be the asked that question.

CR7 is a great player. There's no denying it.

But if this record is as "noteworthy" as you claim, why didn't we all globally revere Ali daei before now?

Why is it when CR7 is closing in on the record that the record becomes greatly magnified/ important?

It's a nice feat but not as large as made out to be BECAUSE of its inevitability. A player with CR7's caliber is naturally expected to get to 100 goals having played since 2003 (17 years).

A nice feat nonetheless.

2004...not 2003... besides...when he was messis age...he had hit over 80 goals

Don't let your love for him make you sound stupid....

In the round leather game, what makes it more interesting is when you have some fans going hard against your favorite star... You can't expect everyone to "love" your superstar...

I have seen you come up with some ridiculous comments about Messi, even on this thread, but I see everything as fun....

Try and see it same way so you won't sound stupid.
bro, some people take this argument between CR7 & MESSI too personal in the forum. They want to force you accept their goat.....people should learn to accept & respect others opinion & preference.

Every Continental Federation has the strong, the weak and the hapless teams. Europoe has France and San Marino. Asia has South Korea and Ali's Iran but also has Hong Kong and Brunei. Oceania has Australia and Tonga. South America has Brazil and Argentina but also has Peru and Paraguay. The North has the United States and Mexico but also St Kitts and Barbados, Africa has Senegal, Egypt and Camneroun, it also has Seychelles, Liberia and South Sudan....opportunities abound everywhere.

Before the European Nations league Africa had more tounaments than any other continental Federation within a given length of time, until recently South American countries faced a double header in qualifying for the world cup, that is almost two years of qualifying matches, everyone has the opportunity.

I wouldn't even consider Portugal at Tier One European soccer powerhouse not with the likes of Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Holland dominating since soccer became an international sport in the 30's, yet this man is able to achieve this in the most competitive Federation in the world.

It is more than an outstanding achievement. It is the stuff of legends. A testimony of his sheer passion for the game and a record that will endure for decades to come.

U think NIGERIA is a small team when it comes to FIFA IMAGE.
Do you know that NIGERIA has more INTERNATIONAL TROPHIES than all those countries CR7 has been playing against..? Including Sweden, Norway, Wales and Poland...
What do you take NAIJA for...?

NIGERIA has attained NUMBER 6 IN FIFA ranking before which is the highest any AFRICAN nation has ever attained, yet Sweden, Poland, Wales and many more of these CR7 teams has never gotten to such.

In as much as NIGERIA is suffering some setbacks due to redundant leaders doesn't mean we are not GIANTS when it comes to FIFA recognition.

NIGERIA has produced more SOCCER PLAYERS of International repute than all those countries.
U could only think of Lewandowski of Poland.
U could only think of Ibrahimovic of Sweden and possibly Larson....
After these people, who else..?

Do u know that Sweden has played in a final of a world cup, came 3rd 2ice and won the Olympic Gold medal in football??

No Nigerian player in history has achieved what ibrahimovic or Lewandowski have achieved

Is Messi now the one with an advantage? Despite everything, he has way way more goals that Ronaldo against fifa top 50. Read this post of mine on this thread.

Messi did this while playing in the best leagues and tournaments with quality teams: La Liga, UEFA Champions League, Copa Del Rey, etc.

As at November 2019, 26.09% of Messi's international goals came against teams in the fifa top 10, Ronaldo had 8.08%. Breaking it further down, 56 of Messi’s 70 international’s goals have been against teams in the top 50, while just 28 of Ronaldo’s 99 goals have come against teams in the top 50. Lithuania is the country Ronaldo has scored the most goals against (7), while Messi has scored more (5) against Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay than any other team.

The highest-ranked team Ronaldo has goals against is Sweden (5) followed by Netherlands (4). Brazil are the highest-ranked team Messi has scored against most (5), followed by Uruguay and Paraguay (5).

It should be noted that Ronaldo has scored at least two or more times against these teams, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Russia and Switzerland. Messi meanwhile, has found the back of the net at least two or more times against Spain, Switzerland, Nigeria and Mexico.

Read more: https://www.google.com/amp/s/soccernet.ng/2019/11/ronaldos-99-international-goals-or-messis-70-which-is-more-impressive.html/amp

If Ronaldo faced the strongest European oppositions and scored many goals against them, how come 75 of his 99 international goals, 75.76%, came against the following teams: Lithuania (7), Andorra (5), Armenia (5), Latvia (5), Luxembourg (5), Sweden (5), Estonia (4), Faroe Islands (4), Hungary (4), Denmark (3), Russia (3), Northern Ireland (3), Azerbaijan (2), Bosnia (2), Cyprus (2), Kazakhstan (2), Saudi Arabia (2), Czech Republic (2), and a single goal against North Korea, Panama, Ecuador, Greece, Iceland, Finland, Serbia, Ghana, Ukraine, and Slovakia.

I didn't even include the one he scored against Cameroon. Ronaldo is a great player, I even call him my ewure, but let's not pretend that initial post doesn't have any merit.

Hope u analysed it this way when messi was busy scoring Haiti, Qatar, Nicaragua, eibar, steau Bucharest, valladolid, on his way to 91 goals in 2012

Anyway, he needs more penalties to actualize that.
When I hear all of you mauling about penalties I just laugh as if penalties is not part of the game. Please maybe you can inform FIFA to expunge penalties from the rules book.

Please, please, please do not drag me into your Messi, Ronaldo skirmishes. I don't do infantile, pointless stuff. They are both legends in their right. However I have a general preference for National team football as being the pinnacle of sporting excellence and that is what I emphasise here as being worthy of commendation because games come few and far between, records are thus highly valuable.

You think you are smart.. Why don't you say those goals by messi against the top teams were in friendlies and not in major tournaments? Also, prior to yesterday's match, 17% of CR7 international goals were in friendlies, while a staggering 49% of Messi international goals were in friendlies. Stop twisting facts to suit your camp nou dweller.

Exactly my point!

If an average player— by your standard (who didn't conquer europe) can make this record stand for almost 15 years then maybe it's not so much a great record.

CR7 is great however. This record which he hasn't broken (honestly) doesn't really make him greater (having played) 17 years.

Lol. Give me your analysis and let's know you are not making stuffs up. In 2012, Messi scored 91 goals in 69 official games. He scored 79 goals in 60 appearances for FC Barcelona, and 12 goals in 9 appearances for Argentina. That's impressive.

Mind you, I didn't come to this thread to argue that Messi is better than Ronaldo. So far I am just showing emotional Ronaldo fans that my initial post, which came as a joke, has some merit. Nevertheless, Ronaldo is one of the best players in history.
