Don't forget there was an event planner whose duty was to also make sure Akwaugo got to the party without suspecting a thing.

it wasn't for her. Check her conversation with Morgan when she came in. She told him he didn't do a good job hiding it.

Check paragraph six. The dialogue

Ok, but who puts details of a surprise party in the dailies. Think you can work on that to keep the scene plausible

I understand sis. I was thinking with my professional cap actually. I am a journalist and know we can sniff out information like this and print on the dailies without the persons involved saying anything.

As long as the man sent out invitations and engage the service of a planner, people like us can get any secret out there, that the person involved will be amazed.

But I will look into that scene. Thank you much kiss

Chapter 31
The gradual hush that descended in the moderate-sized exquisite decorated hall was loud enough to announce her arrival. Morgan swivelled with the guests and watched her took in the howling, squeals, waves and camera clicks. His first thought was how much she’d change these past months. Growth was the perfect word actually; she’d smoothly slid into the celebrity lifestyle. Smiling and posing for the camera- flipping her hair! She did flip her hair and flashed him the most seductive smile he had ever seen.

“She is not human!” He heard someone muttered beside him

His heart swelled as he leered at her, “Excuse me gents” he straightened his slim-fitted black long-sleeved senator suit, adjusted his black with white embroidered cap and walked towards her. His gaze grazed through her perfect curves which were accentuated by her crimson red silk fishtail gown.

“You didn’t tell me you are going ahead with this” she whispered as he brushed his lips on her cheek. The gleam in her eyes eased his nerves- she wasn’t mad at him.

“I wanted to surprise you” he didn’t know if it worked. The event planner promised to make this as discreet to her as possible- it wasn’t difficult to cook up a story to get her all dressed up and pulled her to the venue.

“You didn’t do a good job keeping it secret anyways”

“Ouch! That hurts” his hand flew to his heart and his face crunched
“am I terrible?”

“In lying and keeping secrets. You are not good”

He’d forgotten it wasn’t a secret love getaway meant for just the two of them. “Forgive me, beautiful one. For once, I want to take pride in flaunting you” his fingers trailed the silver glittering stones on the neckline of her gown, down to the silhouette between her bust.
Someone cleared his throat behind him “Sir, the guests are waiting”
A roar of laughter erupted in the crowd and they joined in.

“Come on girl, let’s go meet our guests” he took her arm and lead her into the exclusively reserved event centre. “You look like a doll, the most beautiful one” he whispered to her ears and made her laugh

“And you look like you are about to steal a thousand hearts away, should I be worried?”

“Na…this old heart belongs to you forever my love”

He had never been more proud of introducing anyone like he was at the moment. He could see the eyes of most of the men ogling at her as they moved deeper, even the women could not stop staring.

When he finally slid the pear-cut shaped diamond ring on her middle finger and watched her pupil dilated and her cheeks turned rose pink, his heart swelled, he took her in his arms and sealed her soft warm lips with his amidst cheers and thunderous claps. “I am madly, irrevocably in love with you, fine face.”

“I love you deeply Nkem…from that day you came back looking for me when I told you not to. I was ashamed to say it all these times”

She was taken away from her by friends and family, while his colleagues chose that odd place to talk business! He swiped a glass of Champaign off the tray being carried around by one of the bartenders, his head darted in search of her while he took his seat among the men. He massaged his nape, took a sip from his wine, looked over his shoulder, his gaze caught hers. Her lips pursed slightly as she narrowed her gaze, looking through him- seeing the hunger and the desire that had gripped him. He wished he could whisk her away from here, he wanted nothing more than the pleasure of skimming that gown off her body and making slow sweet love to her.

The corner of her eyes wrinkled as she laughed to whatever joke one of the women was telling. Yet, her eyes didn’t leave his face. He wet his lips, “Gentlemen, this is not the right place to talk business now, it’s my engagement night!”

*
Madonna stood out of view as she watched her. The girl was far too beautiful for her own good. A kind of beauty that should be kept hidden, especially in Lagos where there are lots of predators. This wasn’t her kind of life, she saw the way those women hovers around her, given the chance- they would tear her up and have a piece of her flesh, and the men? One thing stopped them from approaching her, that is if some of them hadn’t, Morgan. Who would want to be on his wrong book?

She opened her purse, got a pack of cigarette, fiddle with it for a while and place it back, she seriously needed to smoke, she thought of stepping out to do it, but she didn’t want to lose sight of her prey. She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat, shifted her buttocks on the chair, her legs dangled.

She tore her gaze away from the doll face lady and searched for Morgan, and wasn’t disappointed seeing him amidst business colleagues. She should have gone to say hi, but she wouldn’t want to be seen- not by Morgan. He didn’t bother inviting her to the party and that was perfect, the alibi she needed.

She heaved a sigh, swivelled her chair to face the bar, “A glass of vodka…just vodka” She grabbed a celebrity magazine she saw on the granite counter and flipped. When her drink came, she gulped everything down. Glanced at the glowing bride to be one more time, eased herself off the chair and made her way out of the hall, to the arms of the moonless night that welcomed her.

*
Nwamaka, unfolded the piece of newspaper and stared hard at the photo, then to the gigantic building before her. It must be here, she thought. She squinted, tilted her head backwards and gazed at the glistering engraved words on top of the multiple story building.

“Madam, it is the hotel now, there is no other hotel with that name.”
It was the place alright. She breathed out her relief, they had been on this merry go round for like ‘God knows how many hours’ this city was meant for mad people, no single sane person would want to stay here. Why does every rich man want to reside here?

She scrambled for money inside her bag, brought out a single one thousand naira note and handed it to the taxi driver who gave her an evil eye, muttered something and drove off.

One problem solved. Two actually, how to get into Lagos was the first problem. The next challenge was how to get inside and where to find Akwaugo. What lie would she tell? She inhaled deeply and blew out the air from her mouth, shoved the piece of paper inside her bag and made towards the gate.

“Hey. Hello. Excuse me, madam”

She was already inside, no going back. So she summoned the best smile she could, and cast her gaze on one of the security guards.
“Hi. I am here for the party” the smile never left her face. With a black gown she estimated to worth between twenty to twenty-five thousand naira, a black pump shoes that were hurting her feet, and a multi-coloured handbag, she looked the best she could and that was something.

“But Mr Morgan didn’t tell us another guest is arriving”

“Come one, I was running late!” she mimicked the classy walk she’d seen and had even used in Port Harcourt. The thrusting and rolling of her hips. She wasn’t nervous, was she? She felt wetness around her armpit, beads of sweat trickling down from there to her arms. “See, I am a relative of the bride! She is expecting me!”

“Your Name?”

“Name? for what?” she didn’t rehearse for this.

“Your name, Lady”

“Oh! Nwamaka is my name…see we grew up together, Akwaugo knows I am here”

The security guard gave her a long hard stare, “I don’t believe…”

“She is relative. I know her” a feminine voice cut in behind them, she turned to see a dark tall elegant lady approach. “Don’t worry boys, it is a long way from her place to this venue. Sure you guys understand that?”

“Yes ma’am”

“Follow me, the event has already started”
*
Doesn’t fate has a good way of delivering solutions to your laps when you list expect it? She was dragging and puffing into the night, working out how to go about her plans. Getting closer to the lady would be a high risk to take- there was no lost love between them and she was convinced her billionaire fiancé must have warned her. Not that she couldn’t manoeuvre her way through. Then, the answer came.

Madonna gazed at the lady from the corner of her eyes as they walked towards the elevator, a small slender woman who moved quickly. She wouldn’t pass as a beautiful woman, that could have been the first thing the guards must have noticed- she definitely wasn’t related to the little miss beauty. But she had a well-defined cheekbone, a chin slightly pointed and her hips were quite a thing.

“You are not her sister” it was a statement

“I swear ma; we are” the lady shrilled

“Cut the drama. You look nothing like her”

She pressed the elevator button, floor twelve. She admired herself on the mirror by the wall inside the elevator, smoothened her fake hair. “So how did you come to know her?”

“Actually ma, we grew up together in the village…”

“Village?”

This was new. So little miss beauty was a village girl! And here she was thinking she was competing with a sophisticated beauty queen from abroad. She felt like throwing her head backwards and laughing out so loud. The cheaply dressed lady gaped at her.

“Yes. She was married to one man in the village…”

Her head spun three hundred and sixty degrees. Was she dreaming this or… “She is someone’s wife!”

“Ehm. But she left that man,”

Poor Morgan. To think the big wolf found himself in love with a cheat and a liar. She was right to call her a gold-digger. It would shatter him when he finds out this ugly side of the woman he was entangling himself with. She would tell him anyway.

They stepped out of the elevator into a long corridor. “Nobody will allow you into that party except you do what I say”
The eager lady nodded vehemently.

“I will give you something to deliver to her. And I will tell the guards you are her personal maid”

From the frown that creased the lady’s forehead, she knew this idea didn’t please her. But who cared? It was her only chance of executing this plan and get it done with. Thought with the new information she had at the moment, she would have wanted to abort the mission and watch what would play out once Morgan knows the real identity of the tramp he was with. However, she wouldn’t want this to turn into another Cinderella story.

Chapter 32
She dabbed her forehead with the back of her hand, balancing the tray that held the glass of wine she was supposed to deliver on the flatness of one palm. The tray wobbled, however, and the glass spilt little of its content but her pace didn’t slack. The strange lady that gave her access to this place, told her she could be thrown out if it was ever found out she didn’t belong there. She batted her eyelashes and continued.

Her eyes swept around the lounge in a flash and she suddenly felt small. Money. Power. Fame. She thought Port Harcourt was everything but this place was heaven, meant for an exclusive set of influential individuals.

Her eyes went back to the spot where the couple sat with some people. The man and his virile good look first caught her attention. Strong shoulders, he commanded a certain kind of power, a charisma that spelt ‘I have the world by the balls’ All eyes were on him, yet he would always stare at the beauty queen beside him while he spoke.

Her gaze went to the only lady amidst the men and felt a tightening around her middle. A sensation that went down her gut, she stopped midstride to catch her breath which was rattling up her raw, aching throat. She would have argued with anyone that would tell her the lady her eyes were set upon was her friend- the haggard, sick looking woman she once knew.

“Are you okay?” a lady’s voice snapped her out of her thought.
“Oh, yes” she lowered her gaze “I was a little carried away” she managed a nervous smile.

The lady followed her glance to the table at the far end of the lounge “I understand. Who wouldn’t be carried away looking at those two? Lovely couple, aren’t they?”

She swallowed hard and nodded. Avoiding the lady’s inquisitive stare.

“Are you sure you are okay?”

Holy f*ck! She thought the rich knew how to mind their businesses, what was this about? Sure, she didn’t look like she was going to drop dead the next minute. “I am fine, really.” She resumed her walking.

As if sensing her presence- her stench of poverty and wretchedness, Akwaugo lifted her head and stared directly at her. She saw her narrowed her gaze, then her eyes widened with her lips. Nwamaka let out the air that hung in her longs with a wheeze and waved with her free arm.

She felt that pang again as Akwaugo tilted her head forward and whispered something to the man, both turned to her direction, stared for a while and the man nodded, muttered something to Akwaugo who bit her lips, laughed, pushed her chair backwards and started walking towards her.

Her heart thumped.

“Nwamaka! How did you? When…”

“That’s not so important right now” she offered the glass of wine to her friend “This was the only way to get to you” her eyes darted side to side and fall on a waiter walking across. She beckoned “Hey, take this miserable thing off my hand” she blurted, ignoring the look the boy gave her before taking the tray.

“You don’t know what it took me to find you! I have gone through a lot” she pulled Akwaugo by the hand and hurried to the far end of the lounge.

“Nwamaka hold on” Akwaugo giggled

“We have to talk” she asserted

“Come on, it's my engagement party, can’t this wait after?”

Who cares about the miserable party? She wasn’t invited anyway so why would she give a f*ck? Only one thing brought her to this place and the sooner she got to it… “you didn’t invite me to your party”

“Your where nowhere to be found”

“As if you and your rich man would have cared to have me here if I was within reach!” she spat, pouted her lips and raised an eyebrow.

“Tell me about the person who ran off with no trace, leaving her kids and aged mother. Nobody seemed to know where to find you, I tried your number severally!”

Now she needed a drink, a strong one. But instead of a drink, she was lucky to catch an attendant with chops passing across. She grabbed a plate, shoved two spring rolls inside her mouth. Trying to swallow all at once threatened to burst her throat open, she grimaced, slapped her chest and cleared her throat.

“Come lets seat and talk”

“I will need more of those” She followed Akwaugo, “And a couple of drinks too”

“You will get whatever you want”

They arrived at their destination, a cosy leather booth directly facing the entrance of the lounge.

*
The instruction was to make her take the drink! But this Coon from the ghetto would rather stuff herself with food than carry out a simple task.

“What is so special about the drink that you want me to make her take it?” the lady had asked

“A special brew from my company. I want her to have a taste and recommend me to her husband and his friends” that was the best response at the moment and the lady had bought it.

Clearly out of view, Madonna had her gaze on the glass of wine on the table. Miss fine face was rimming the top of the glass with her index finger while listening to whatever gibberish the other lady was saying.

She scratched the corner of her eyes and eased herself off the wall, and went in search of Morgan. She’d see him strode towards the elevator not so long, in search of his prized jewel, she though.

With one quick glance towards the two ladies, she decided she would squeeze the life out of the greedy idiot if miss fine face ended up not taking that drink.

She found him at the reception, downstairs. Arms rested on the marble slabbed demarcation while he talked with the receptionists and giving them his killer smile. An overly attractive man who didn’t know just how good looking he was- a major turn on to her.

“Looking for little miss pretty?” she approached. He didn’t show sign of surprise when he turned towards her. Only looked her over and waited. “Can’t stay a minute without her by your side huh? Afraid she would be cornered by predators?” she thrust her hips to the right as she rested her arms on the demarcation, few inches away from him.

“What are you doing here?” he asked

“walking to and fro, like the devil…looking for whom to distract” she purred, drumming her nails on the surface. “You didn’t think it was necessary to give me an invite. But here I am, thanks to dad, the poor man wouldn’t go anywhere without his beloved daughter” she cooed.

“That’s nice.” He glanced at his wristwatch “I have to go now” he eased himself off and headed back to the elevator.

“I have something for you, big wolf.” She didn’t look at him

“It can wait, Madonna; I have to go back…”

“It’s about your little pretty woman”

He froze

“Something that might interest you.

*
He found her seated on the dimmed lit enclosed booth, alone, browsing through her phone. Her bare skin glistered with the light, with her curled hair moved to the other side of her shoulder, exposing her smooth slender neck. She was graceful- slightly
hunched over the table, her legs crossed, the slit of her gown fallen to the different sides of her leg, her bare skin like pale fine silk.

He sneaked up to her, gave her neck a gentle bite, allowing her alluring scent caressed his nostril. She jerked her head towards him, lustrous lips slightly parted.

“You are f*cking sexy” he slurred and nudged her with his hip as he sat beside her.

She bit her lips, lowered her gaze, suppressing the smile that tugged at the corner of her lips. “You’ve said this a thousand times Nkem”

“Have I?” He tipped her jaw and levelled his gaze on hers. Her eyes, like a luminous orb, held his in an electrifying lock. He couldn’t pull away. She’d make him proud today, amazing. She knew a little about everything, politics. Religion. Education. Business. She had held the men spellbound with her intelligent responses.

She nodded “Yes. Though you have not used the word ‘fucking’” her cheeks redden. He knew she wasn’t yet comfortable with the word, and he had tried to restrict the use of it around her, not that she had complained much.

“Well my love, I don’t think I will ever get tired of saying it. You are such an amazing and powerful woman; you don’t even know it yet…” He couldn’t wait for words to come out of her slightly parted lips, he fused his lips with hers, tasting, exploring. He felt her hands grab his neck, the urgency in her soft moan brought back the hunger and lust that had wrecked him the first time she stepped into the lounge.

She thrust her bosom to his chest, his legs entangled with hers as his palm trailed her sleek thigh up the lines of her pantie. She gasped, threw her head backwards and surrendering her neck to him.

“I wish I had done this the first time you walked in” his lips moved as he planted kisses on her neck, pushing her hair to the back.

“That would have been a bad idea.” She muttered, gentling pulling away and smiling shyly.

He followed her gaze down her lifted gown, grinned awkwardly and pulled his hand away but didn’t move from the position, her body closed to his was so enchanting He brushed away a stray hair from her forehead.

“I want to make love to you tonight” he felt her shivered, her eyes glimmered. “I have waited for too long, let me have the pleasure of adoring your beautiful body, I want to lie beside you tonight, to possess your body while you take mine.”

“What took you so long?” she breathed out. Her hands sneaked under his suit, tracing its way up his chest. He felt a wild sensation at the pit of his stomach, his erection nudged against the tightness of his pant.

She should know what took him this long. Why he’d torture himself all these months, turning away when he’d feel like pinning her down with his weight, watched her expression while he thrust in and out of her. Now they were free, with her bride price paid, she was his wife in every traditional sense “There are somethings you don’t know yet my love. Somethings I want to teach you…allow me do that tonight” would he be able to control his wild lust and take her through the journey of sexual pleasure?

“I will like that so much” her warm breath bathed his face.

“Come on, let's get out of here” he croaked, heart swelled with excitement, he picked the wine she left on the table, “Let me help you with this” drain it in one gulp, picked her purse and helped her up.

*
The first stab of pain hit him as he eased himself inside the comfort of his car. He grimaced, squeezed his eyes shut. It was over as fast as it came. He adjusted his bulk and grinned at his woman, pulled her closer and planted a kiss on her already swollen lips.

“Can’t wait to get home?” she giggled

“It's still a long way from here to the hou…” the second sting shook his body, ripping through his stomach to his chest. A sharp blinding jolt from hell took over him, he felt as if his chest was being torn out of his body. He groaned out of pure agony.

“What is it…Nkem! What is happening!” he heard her from the distance of his consciousness, felt her hands around him, shaking frantically. "Help! i need help!" she must be saying.

Another jolt and he screamed. This wasn’t a movie, it was the real thing- he was dying! He gripped her hand, “Get this cloth off me!” he groaned, something was moving inside him- trying to rip him apart.

The cloth barely left his body when the next pang jolted him into unconsciousness, the screaming voice of his woman faded from his head.
