If you followed the discussion from the first page. You'll know in this context, it doesn't at all!

I'm not blaming our parents per se, the blame is on every Nigerian elders who had it easy with the oil boom and good economy but refused to build the nation though they had the (political) power or backing to do so, our parents inclusive.

There was a time Dubai no reach Lagos in terms of infrastructure, no be the same oil we dey sell?
How can you compare Nigeria and Dubai? Nigeria get many tribes which always hate each other, Dubai is small maybe 7 million people with a long history of being together. You see why ibedun takes you indomie kids to the cleaners? grin

Young monkey. You can't compare Nigeria to USA. USA got its freedom in 1779, they speak one language, they have solid foundation founded on good xtian faith and Protestant beliefs. Nigeria lacks those.

Why are Nigerians above the age of 40 so unfortunate and extremely stupid. You guys were born when the British left Nigeria. They handed over a country with dreams and a bright future but you managed to ruin it and wreck it for future generations. Your mates who also took control of their countries in the same time periods have built their nations to first world status while you have generated poverty and hopelessness for Nigerians. Most millennials were born from 1985 to 1995. What did we meet? Honestly this country has been a shithole from birth and it has managed to get worst in recent years. As of last year I could cook a good meal with 1000 naira. It's impossible to do so today. How much do I make? What is the average Nigerian salary? How many jobs even exist in this useless shithole.

The most annoying thing about this failed generation is they still have mouth to talk back on the youths that the youths are the ones who ruined Nigeria. Ruined Nigeria with what. Look at the fool called myBraine. How can one person be so foolish and he thinks he's making any sense. Nigerians should be excluded from technology and embrace subsistence farming. Please name one country in the world where subsistence farming made them a trillion dollar economy which is what Nigeria desperately needs for our booming population. The endsars protest going on go and check the people against the movement are Nigerians within that age range. People that feel that you can't make any money online. They don't know the world has changed. They don't know it's possible to sit down in Nigeria and work with big companies in silicon valley and earn millions. They don't know the millions many people make monthly trading crypto and Forex. When bbnaija was showing they said the youths are distracted now it has ended and the youths are out and you are abusing them.

Nigerians above 40 why are you so unfortunate? Your mates built south Korea, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam you guys left poverty for all of us.
Based on your calculation that gave rise to above summation, it is not hard to conclude you are one of the banes that stood in the way of progress for Nigeria. You cannot even apply derivative arithmetic to surmise the age of most Nigerians born before or after British granted independence to the country. At least, anybody with age of 55 years was born 5 years after British granted independence. How could Nigeria even begin to lay foundation of progress when the crop of the cream such as you cannot make use of simple extrapolation. Granted not everybody has the sense of numbers as evidential with your above post, however the basic knowledge of simple arithmetic is required in building foundation for national growth.

Don't mind these boys and girls. Some of the banks and other companies they write application to were founded by those who are 40 and above. Most of the private schools helping these young boys and girls hold body and soul together were
started by those who are above 40. Those who risked their lives to throw the military out in the 90s are all above 40 today. Now what are these young boys and girls doing with the democracy we have? They are the same corpers and thugs being used to rig elections. grin The same youths wasting away watching bbn and such trashy stuff. The same ones doing yahoo yahoo and kidnapping. Agreed that Nigerian youths built paystack and Flutterwave. But 70% equity in those firms are owned by foreign investors. Please check how much was raised through crowd funding of those companies from abroad and how much of ownership the founders have left. Worst is that they have been reduced to local and regional payment gateways.

Gokada was owned by young Bangladesh millionaire while Opay is almost 100% Chinese.

Nairaland has no economic value to Nigeria.
Regarding crowed Funding ,do you think if Nigerians have access to easy & cheaper loan with with lower interest rate like thier counterpart abroad, they would seek investors outside ?These investors have unlimited access to loan with very low interest rate, which makes them easily sought for for investment purposes . Do you think if the system makes it friendly for Nigerians to access these kind of loan at a minimal interest rate, they would go looking for foreign investors who will likely take the lion share of the profit ?
We are still saying thesame thing but you just choose to closed your mind to what the op is saying . The young Nigerians have to struggle four times as hard on how to start up a business or earn a living in order to keep thier head up in a hostile country that has no plans for their younger generation .Yes I am agree with the Op. The older generation that have ruled this country in one way or the other are terrible elders and do not deserve any respect from younger Nigerian.
One of them is presently ruling Nigerian and just look at his style or leadership ? Our old men have nothing to offer . The earlier we recognize this the better .

You are right. By nature human beings are not reasonable. My elderly boss told me that weeks ago. I was angry until I thought about it.
How can you wake up and begin to blame others for your woes? I have seen youths from very poor backgrounds making it to the top of their profession through sheer stubbornness, grit, brilliance and Faith in God.

After the war,Nigerians went into holiday mood and unfortunately those born or young in those Era are stuck looking for easy way to richees while waking up to a generation of youth that emulates them and some that hate their strides with passion.

They have this deep down believe that respect is given by age and not earn by acheivements. I dont respect my elders when i see their line of thought are poor and there is no advancement in their words or understanding.

Not true. Nairaland has a lot of economic value to Nigeria. A lot of Nigerian businessmen started their businesses on nairaland. Akin alabi started here on nairaland likewise so many others. Even when I started my first business. My first sale was through nairaland. Till today I still get people calling me related to that business from nairaland. Nairaland is the cheapest form of advertising available to a Nigerian business. Foreigners invest in every business. Do you know how much the Arabs have invested in American top tech companies? Nigeria is even killing it's creative youth. Software engineers are in demand worldwide and a lot of countries are making it easy for them to migrate. Estonia just introduced a freelance visa, Spain same, Antigua and Barbuda same. Germany introduced a job seeker visa to lure in IT and healthcare workers. If all the nonsense the old people do is allowed to continue it's just gonna be them in this country because oil is loosing relevance. I would like to see how much Forex subsistence farming will generate for Nigeria. The same subsistence farming done in Niger and Chad.
i doubt if the guy really understand what he typed, how can someone say Nairaland has no economic value. Should we talk about the ads? Should we talk about people getting job offers and contracts through this platform? should we talk about angel investors meeting entrepreneurs here? should we talk about those selling their stuffs and wares via this platform? Dude will just open mouth and be talking about economics this, economics that.

I read your post again carefully and you confirmed what the boy/man you insulted stated.

If we have $50 billion dollars in a foreign reserve + circulation (bureau the changers), Nigerians who love quick money and want to sell rice will have to take their naira and exchange it for dollars to purchase parboiled rice in Thailand. Thailand won't receive naira but dollars. Since Nigerians love rice so much the total amount we pay Thailand for rice may be $1billon dollars yearly which will make dollars in our reserve $49 billion dollars and that in the reserve of Thailand +1 billion dollars.

It's a waste of foreign reserve to purchase what you can actually buy when we have enough land to produce even excess. You have agreed from the bold that rice is not sufficient and thereby agree that if more Nigerian Youths delved into its production, they'll earn a living from local sales and boost the dollar reserve of the country by just increased rice production.
Does the govt have the political will to tackle Fulani herdsmen menace ?

I have done different forms of Agric, it is not as profitable as people paint it.

Though with thorough specialization, one can make a killing in it.

But that requires enabling environment.

The older generation never protested anything,
Infact they convinced themselves it's the will of God, now a simple writeup is a silent protest,

Let people vent, the older generation are more concerned with hisbah and foolish endeavors that makes the young even more subservient,

Look at what they turned unionism into, it's important we start to point out their failures so we don't become like them, it's called taking stock,

ibedun:
Dude, I am not frustrated and I am not fighting for any stupid government. None of the government we have had in Nigeria (except Gen Gowon’s government and Tunde Idiagbon’s government) is worth fighting for.

What I am not ready to tolerate is some stupid irrelevant keyboard kid who actually don’t know anything, full of half education, inadequate life experience, operating on ignorance forming rebellious radical. Thinking that insulting and denigrating older Nigerians who were themselves victims of ignoramus coup plotting foolish young military officers of 1960s - 1999, is the magic solution to our societal problems. How many of older generation, people in this age brace (50s 60s 70s 80s) have a pension to live on in old age? Less than 2%!!!!
Would you make SOWORE the president of Nigeria after his childish foolish political displays?

And the idiot is here insulting them. Did he/she join the demonstration against SARS yesterday? Did you yourself?

That was exactly what the previous generations did, they refused to come out and express their anger but sat at home for decades getting angry and ranting for nothing while the country fell apart. And they all continued to Bleep with reckless abandon leading to the huge population of poverty stricken people in society today!

My concern is not really your political views because they are your opinion and your right. My concern is the part in bold which is the future and thus more important. I'll write less and just raise points.

(1) Investors are not like financial institutions who give loans and get repaid with interest. Investors are individuals or corporate bodies that pump capital into a business or an idea in exchange for a certain degree of control over the business.

2) Banks do not give loans to people just because of hope or trust because entrepreneurship is a pool of risk. Politicians get loans in Nigeria because they have the collateral. If the business fails they can get the loan back through the sale of the collateral which was valued to be the measure of the loan that was granted. Is it your family house or ancestral land that you will take to first bank or GtB?

3) Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter , Snapchat etc were not built with loans. I ask you to challenge me with evidence if you have one.
These tech startups turned billion dollars multinationals because of venture capitalists and angel investors.

(Example Evan Spiegel created Snapchat like any other app on the Apple store. Barry Eggers , the first investor had a daughter who was always bored. A certain weekend he noticed his daughter playing and very happy with her phone and as an inquisitive person Eggers who was impressed questioned her and discovered that a new app "Snapchat" which was then worth nothing made his favorite daughter happy. He reasoned that if Snapchat could make his girl happy, then he could get more money if he invested in the company as young girls and teenagers seeking fun would be interested in the app. That was how Spiegel got his funding in millions of dollars. If you don't understand this , think of Otedollar funding an unknown company because he reasoned that since it made a younger Dj Cuppy happy , it would be popular among the youths and make him and the founder more money.)

Others like Facebook were crowd funded by Havard students and later by venture capitalist after Zuckerberg and his team showed them a long term plan for the company.

4. Nigerians who are under the ages of 40 have enough money to invest but they are more interested in quick returns. For a tech company to start yielding profit, it may take at least 5 years. It takes 3-6 months to package an artiste, get him a hit and then start making money from him.
Victor AD which I'm well aware of his story had his label invest 20 million naira for his "wetin we gain" single. Emperor chizzy is under 40 and invested more than 50 million on Kiss Daniel, Sugar boy and the rest in his label who never succeeded.

Erica got more than 30 million naira just from crowdfunding within a month after she was disqualified from big brother naija.
Linda Ikeji would rather buy a room of shoes and 10 cars each for her brothers and sisters than investing as one of the youth who first discovered the money the internet offers.

It is the youth in America that built silicone valley in California and funded their startups.
The government of America has not spent a dime on the tech startups making waves today. They even want to tax them and have a share of their unstoppable wealth that didn't stop flowing even during the pandemic.

Nairaland could have been a multi billion naira company if the youth understood the stock exchange market . Séun would have listed his company there . 1000 ,2000 ,3000 naira that an average youth uses to gamble could have earned him 5000 the first month at Lagos stock exchange if he knew what to do there. He would reinvest that 5000 the next month and get 20,000.

While the youth in America prefer the New York Stock Exchange that will give 25% ROI and aid in production, our country prefers Ponzi schemes which promise 100% ROI and get scammed in the process.

Only if they knew that school has never been a scam.

the 1st bolded, i strongly disagree that respect for elders is silly or was designed to keep kids below their parents, leaders etc.

the 2nd bolded, our ancestors are achieved a lot. haven't you heard of the Benin empire? Oyo empire? but sadly with the coming of the white man,
they destroyed and buried so much of our culture and who we are as people. Do you know how many Nigeria cultural artifacts that are in museums in the UK and europe?

there is nothing wrong in respecting and listening to our elders, i'm happy you even added asia. do you know how much respect and love the asians shower on their parents and elders?

In the end you too would become an old cargo. and if at your youthful age you engineered a society that has no regard for the elderly, you must be prepared to suffer the consequence in your old age.
