What are you talking about? Dont you know that this 5 Eastern states were created by military rulers? Is Igbo land limited to the 5 states? What about the Igbos that were carved into Benue? What about Asaba people? What about Oyigbo? Should Igbos forget other Igbos because of bothers drawn up drunk military leaders?

When Nigeria is restructured, there must be a referendum for everyone to decide which Region they want to belong to.

They should be the ones agitating and not the other way round.

The damage has already been done, let them rectify it. I hate seeing Igbos been labelled land grabbers. We're bigger than that

This stupid talk. How can I be grabbing my own land? Igbos were used to make up the population of Benue, Delta and Rivers. When Nigeria is restructured, there will be a referendum for all to decide.

Anyone thinking that the current template of South/South and South East is what will be used for restructuring should forget the idea. A situation where half of Egbema community is in Imo and the other half is in Rivers state, will not be accepted. There must be a referendum in all Igbo speaking communities in the SS, SE and lower Benue. Those who vote to belong to the Eastern Region will become the Eastern Region.

To me o the 36 is not okay.
There should be Equilibrium/equity in the number of states.
How can the South that is feeding the country have only 17 states while the North has 19 states?
The South should also have two additional states or two states removed from the North.

If we want to restructure, then let's do it once and for all.
What is worth doing is worth doing well.

Maybe but not back to any damn 12 states.

Enough of Trial by Error Government.

The 36 Constitutional State Nigeria is how far we have arrived. No going back to 12 States Structure. Forward ever Backward never no matter whose horse is gored.

We move forward from here to limiting the Authorities and Responsibilities of the Federal Government to Foreign Affairs, Military and Treaties only.

The States shall contrbute to running F.G

The F.G shall continue to run Federal Companies and Parastatals on commercial basis and share audited profits to states..

In this circumstance, the 36 Constitutional States can trade and merge horizontally, perpendicularly and diagonally as they please.

Theres no problem with this except that we Igbos are going to insist that all Igbo speaking people be put in the Eastern Region. This means that Igbanke in Edo state, Anioma in Delta state, Umuezeokoha in Benue state and Ikwerre, Ekpeye, Ahoada, Asa all Igbo speaking people in Rivers state be added to the present South East to make the Eastern Region.

12 States is NO NO.
How many states were in the South when Gowan created the 12 states? No, we can't accept such.

If there's to be any Restructuring, let's go back to Regional Government and also dissolve this current 2 Chambers.

Our constitution needs to be rewrite to overhaul the inequalities in those institutions
must we be together?
It's like forcing France and Germany to he one nation

I have told most of you that my comments doesn't mean I side with any but have to real in the face of reality.

The young man's comment is the most stupid of any comment I have come across.

As far as I am concerned, the people themselves are the ones to decide who they are not the other way round.

I am not even interested in what happens in other states, it is none of my business. If someone says that he is not Igbo, that's fine. I am not the one to start telling him or forcing him to be igbo...that's madness.

Moreover all these gibberish are just nairaland rants which as usual ends here...

I reject any 12 states structure, any nonsense merging, any form of it at all, am not interested.

Everybody should mind their own business.

Thats why when Nigeria is restructured into regions, there must be a referendum where everyone decides what region they want to belong to. This current borders drawn by military rulers will not be acceptable to anybody.

You maybe right but I haven't seen the affected communities complaining or agitating for a referendum.
It will be meaningless for you to campaign for referendum on behalf people who are not interested in it.
What I am saying is,Let the affected communities be the one to start the agitation then they will receive our full support just like it happened during the first republic when minorities in Western region asked to be removed from western region and through our full support their demand for a separate region was achieved.

they knew #endsars will likely metamorphose into outright #revolution hence they came Out with this political statement to pacify that angle.

[quote author=Coldie post=94891177]12 state system is not feasible there was a reason more states were created. More States were created to curb marginalization.

Ebonyi people used to complain about being marginalized that development wasn't reaching them.

Rivers people especially the ikwerres were extremely marginalized under the old rivers state by the Ijaws before bayelsa was created.

Same with akwa ibom/cross rivers. It was marginalization of akwa ibom people by cross rivers that turned lots of them into house maids back in the days[/quot

Only states that are economically viable will be allowed to exist so if ur state is still depending on federal monthly allocations it will surely going to be merged with other more economically viable
neighboring states. The days of the oil boom where unproductive idle states wait for monthly bail outs from the federal government to pay their unproductive civil servants and corrupt politicians is over for good.

There is no point agitating at this point in time when there is nothing to agitate for. The SS and SE are not autonomous reagions, the constitution of Nigeria does not even recognise them. When Nigeria reaches that point when it is agreed that Nigeria must restructure, then the agitation can start. If Nigeria agrees that there will 5 or 6 or even 7 Regions, everyone will have to choose which Region they will belong. Naturally, groups like Ohanaeze will canvass for all Igbo speaking communities to belong to one Region. A referendum will be held, and everyone will choose their Regions

I see a situation where 4 Regions might emerge from the South. The Yorubas in the West Region, the Ijaws,Bini, Urohbos in the Midwest Region, all Igbo speaking communities in the East Region, Akwa-Cross and Ogoni in the South/South Region.

If the north leads the so-called restructuring process to fit their grand design again, the rest of the country should object. What I have learnt from all that is going on is that the socalled north gets away with all sorts of evil , simply because the rest of the country is docile. The lopsided state and local government structures in place today were all whimsically designed by northern army officers to favour the north to the detriment of the southern part of the country especially the east. They have more states, more local governments, more allocations, more senators, more....., it's endless ! Now, they are fearful that after Buhari, with the trends of political events, a real restructuring might happen, and they want to quickly effect changes to guarantee nothern domination for another century. This is wrong! It's either everybody is treated equally going forward, or the whole country should expire..

The rest of the country is not docile is only you understand what IPOB has been fighting for.
