Hello Ifelajulo

Your case saddens my heart.

What if they ask for an updated letter of acceptance and you can’t provide one?

My advice for you now is to apply asap to other schools. If they course is same, fine. If you can’t find the same course, apply to the closest course. So that if an updated letter is asked for, you can send it and also attach a letter of explanation to explain what happened if needed.

Staying without any admission and hoping that the SP is granted is risky.

Best wishes

This is a way to go.

Super CONGRATSSSSSS and well done indeed. Please go and start washing old suitcases, purchasing new ones and booking your flight ticket grin

Anyone from Nairobi processing office for a Masters or PGD programme receive BVL yet? I can see that TimAke is PHD and did not apply from Nigeria so not sure we can use his as a yardstick for ours or what do you guys think?

From this timeline it is safe to assume that the next thing for those that have received AIP and their gcms notes with everythng looking good is to expect BVL then PPR. Is there anything to worry about at this stage? I think I read somewhere in this thread way back that usually the sticker visas are affixed here in Nigeria right? Or do the passports go to Canada and return to Nigeria? Also, I have also seen somewhere that it is usually at this stage that our oversabi Nign guys start requesting for updated statements and all. What was the timeline pre-covid between PPR and when one gets his study permit? So many qstns sorry, just want to know what to expect from here though I am still waiting anxiously for my gcms notes to come out. it is 32 day today

TimAke:
Okay here we go grin
First off, I appreciate everyone on here who give their time and effort to assist and painstakingly answer questions. Special shout out to Frankrobbin and fratermathy for some crucial answers they gave to my doubts that spurred me to take key actions at critical points. At last PPR in the mail. Please find details below:

First time applicant applied from Estonia
VAC: Warsaw
University: University of Regina
Programme: PhD Public Policy
Started online classes already

Timeline
Date Applied: June 18
Biometrics Request: June 19
Biometrics Given: June 24
AIP: August 11
Upfront Medical: August 26
Medical Updated Passed: September 24
BVL/Correspondence Letter: October 15
Passport Request (PPR): October 17

Documents Submitted
All necessary IMM forms
Letter of Acceptance
MSc degree certificate and transcript
BSc degree certificate and transcript
Copies of travel stamps, visas and conference certificates to show travel history.
Letter of Introduction
All documents arranged and merged in one pdf
Letter of EE pool withdrawal (been in the pool for ages with no hope anyways lol)

Statement of Purpose:
I detailed my education and professional background linked it as much as I could to my programme. I will be researching on public service digitalization, so had to talk about my passion for a digitalized public service and how I was coming back to Naija to help with this.

Home Ties: I have nothing yet in Naija except my family, so had to build on that, let them know my mum was widowed and I am the oldest so I definitely had to come back for them. Added my naija pension fund statement too.

Proof of Fund:
I was self-sponsored with savings equivalent to about N5m. Showed bank statement.

University Funding Letter of 10k CAD

My Estonian Pension statement

Letter from my supervisor explaining I would have a TA position and stated the monthly pay.

Not sure if I covered everything but feel free to mention of you need some clarification or questions.

For everyone still waiting, I believe the coming week will come with lots of news like mine especially as October 20 is here already. For those who have been rejected, please keep the hope, keep asking questions and do the right thing. It will work out in the end. Peace

@Lekiboboe thanks for your time and advice. The school is Michener Institute Ontario. I paid tuition deposit and I requested for deferment of my study which they rejected. The school Registrar said that they are not admitting any international student in 2021 and advised me to wait till 2022.

Don't know the way out?

@frankrobbin, @Nijaforeigner @JustMellow please am waiting for your advise.

Hello Ifelajulo,

It may be of your best interest to consider the 2022 intake. The admission letter may be issued before that time.

As mentioned in my earliest post, try to secure admission in another school. Since you claim the program is only available in your first prospect DLI then opt for something very close in another.

If the VO request for an updated offer letter, if the offer letter from the first prospect DLI isn't out, then use that of the second prospect DLI. You can support it with a good LOE and email correspondence evidence between you and the prospect first DLI as proof to why the spontaneous and pro-active decision for the course change and demonstrate how related they are but with different job title.

Request for the GCMS if it has not been requested to help you have idea of the current activities and the stage of your application. You may even be left in awe as there is also a probability that a new letter may not be requested. However, its better safe than sorry.

You'll be fine!

Happy Sunday to you all

I wanna ask what this means ,
(based on whether an Applicant who got AIP should defer or wait till he/she gets a Visa decision bfor Deferring).
NB:Program only available for Sept INTAKE., and Program has started alrdy for Fall 2020

The Applicant got a mail from the school which goes thus,

Please see the IRCC instruction on this

DEFERRED ENROLMENT

After a study permit application is submitted (150 days or less)
If less than 150 days have passed since the intended program start date, officers should continue to process the study permit application.

After a study permit application is submitted (more than 150 days)
If more than 150 days have passed since the intended program start date, officers should request a new letter of acceptance from the applicant to confirm if the student has deferred their enrolment to a later date. Officers should follow the instructions concerning Requests for additional documents on open applications and allow 90 days for the applicant to respond "

My Question now is,

With the above mail from the skool, Is it safe not to defer yet until 150 days is complete starting from the program Start Date (which is September 8 ) and 150 days from that date is around early February 2021.

Thanks...

Hello all
Please I intend to apply for a thesis-based masters program in Canada, but for my intended course most of the schools I’ve searched don’t require securing a supervisor prior to applying. Given this information Is it still necessary to contact faculty members? Because I see a lot of people doing this. Please kindly advise.

Hello Queenmama03,

Its strongly advised that you contact/secure a potential supervisor before applying for a Thesis-based Master. Don't throw away your hard earn money, as only few are lucky doing as instructed by the DLI in the regard.

First how many years is the program, because he will have to show proof for subsequent years too

Also there’s a mandatory 10,000kCAD for living expenses he/she has to show along side money for Tuition and there should be little amount left in the account after all this

So let’s look at it

20100 + 10,000= 30,100k CAD * 300 = #9,030,000

Taking into account other factors I mentioned earlier , I don’t think it will be enough

Other Gurus will shade more light also

All the best

Hello Silvamania,

Very insightful post. In the first sentence, I am of the opinion of just "demonstrating proof of funds" than "showing proof of funds" for the subsequent year. I think they represent two different thoughts and maybe you used both interchangeably.

Aside this, your analysis was spot on.

One love!

Hello Chloe3,

In my best opinion, if the work experience is still current and/or active, stick with the Project Management. That way, you can easily establish a claim of professional development or career progression from a wide perspective.

Again, I want to assume you're a Nigerian. When the two courses you've selected are placed for comparison either in terms of good employment prospect and lucrativeness in Nigeria labour market, Project Management has a better prospect. Please, don't misquote me, I am not trying to demeaning education as a good profession. This was based on my level of understanding.

All the best

Thank you. Which profession will likely get me a job faster in Canada between project management and education

It will be a herculean task paying 4KCAD with Naira Visa/Mastercard due to the monthly dollar $ limit on Nigerian ATM cards. I will advice you generate the payment details through the CIBC, take the details to your commercial bank and pay through FORM A. Again, it's possible to request for an extension from the U of Windsor, so that you can have enough time to complete the transaction.

It will end in praise

please bro, which docs do you think he can add to avoid being judge with the formal application of the agent. the agent applied tourist visa for him ,in year 2017. I'm thinking that he should add affidavit and a letter from lawyer, what do you think pls cos if he is to request for gcms note , it will take a month to get the gcms note and he's applying in 3-5days time

Hello @lekkiboe

The summary of this is that, if 150 days has passed since the student’s intended start date of the program, the VO should ask the student to show an updated letter of acceptance to be sure the student still has an admission for a new start date before they continue processing the visa.

If it is less than 150 days since the start time for the course, they can continue processing without asking for a letter.

Based on this, it does not matter when you defer. They just want to see you still have an admission before issuing you a study permit.

Best wishes

Hello shoyemiayodeji

A sponsor must not be related. People have gotten approval with unrelated sponsor. When using an unrelated sponsor, it’s good to make it clear why that person decided to spend so much on you.

But if you have a related sponsor that would be great.

Is it in every application made that a BVL is issued? I already have a BVL obtained when I applied for a visitor visa. In my application for a student visa do I expect to get another BVL regardless of the fact that i didn’t do biometrics again and it has a duration of 10yrs.

You are Welcome Oreoluwa,

Oh that's awesome

So this is what u gonna do,

Its advisable for u to write a Cover letter (addressed to that department in the sch.) as part of the supporting documents for ur admission application, in which u will talk about why u are going an HR program even though u av a degree in a non-related program (Political Science)

This is where u will now explain ur Professional Certificate in HR, your Work Experience as an Assistant HR

and also in the cover letter , mention like 3-4 courses/subjects u will be doing in that program in the college.

In a Nutshell,
Know that, ur transcript says more about your Political Science degree,

so its the following supporting documents:
- Professional Certificate in HR
- Cover letter
- Recommendation Letter from ur Boss (Where u work as an Assistant HR) - Optional THOUGH,
- Updated Resume/CV
the admission committee of the college will likely dwell more on in order to make a decision if u will be given the admission or not, so a Cover Letter could give them a second thought

Find attached a COVER LETTER SAMPLE/TEMPLATE (FOR ADMISSION)

NOTE: Some of the Contents in that Cover Letter would be what u gonna write in ur SOP when u want to begin ur Canada Study Permit Application (e.g in a Sub-heading/Paragraph like Why Graduate Certificate in HR in so so skool,
so take note of them.

All da best ma'am

Hello Luwaluwa

You do not need to pay another visa fee.

When you get a new passport just inform IRCC via a webform and email and attach the new data page of the passport.

If you applied from Nigeria, use these email addresses and the webform :
