Maybe only a few things get on the nerves quicker than dealing with a confident person that does not know he does not know. BUTTTtttt, if we all realize that at one point or another everyone of us is that confident person who does not know he does not know, then we can view ignorance from a proper perspective of being an opportunity to transfer or share knowledge from one person to another, instead of from a perspective of seeing one another as superior or inferior when we relate with ourselves. But hey, we're human and humans are fallible, we make mistakes from time to time. So, I won't even try to deny that sometimes I too react to an ignorant person in a condescending way when annoyed. But for me, it's just one of those personal areas where I need more self development, especially when you realize that you never know when you could be in that person's shoes. Therefore, my philosophy is that everyone is ignorant one way or another, and ignorant about their ignorance; and until we find more knowledge or meet someone else less ignorant about our own ignorance we might not realize it. 1 Like |

The knowledge we have, that is, what we know are those boats and we are the captain of our boats. Some people's boats are bigger than others, some people have ships. But the FACT is, it doesn't matter how big your boat is, because you see that OCEAN, that ocean represents what we don't know, that ocean is our ignorance. Our ignorance will always be bigger than our knowledge. So, I will tell you again, as "intellectual" as you claim to be, no matter how much knowledge you think you have found or amassed for yourself, you're still just like everybody else - an ignorant person. The day you realize you're an ignorant person is the day your claim of being intellectual becomes true. Because every true intellectual knows he is ignorant. J111333: That's the lowest level one can be in; unconscious unconsciousness... In no time you'd see people trooping in here to say how "numb" they get when they are amidst "foolish" people... I had an instructor (a very old professor) sometimes ago who always told us that true brilliance and intelligence is when you can explain/teach a very complex topic/concept (say rocket science) to a 5th grader to the point where he understands and can also teach others to understand... This man in fact, had all his degrees in a top university in the UK so he's smart... The point is no one is truly wise or foolish, it's just ignorance... But then if you possess the humility to seek knowledge from anyone the moment you realize you do not know, you're intelligent, 'cos in reality, what we don't like is the arrogance people display when they are ignorant. To the OP: imagine the torture your instructors(teachers/lecturers/parents) faced (or are still facing) at different stages of your life, just reminiscent on that and be humble  |
