How many young imo state men doing legitimate businesses can boast of having a plot of land after paying their wives dowry ?
LOL, you yorubas won't kill me with laughter.
My dear, those bogus dowry is for women marrying outside their clan/village. It becomes more when she marries outside Igbo land.
For example an indigene of Onitsha marrying an indigene of Onitsha, the official bride price is below 10000 naira and other things can come as gift .
I won't tell you the exact money to avoid see finish. Just know that it is below, might be very far below or a little below

Sure, there's God and he's cognizant of what happened. In all, what matters most is your own safety and wellbeing

But why are Igbos so greedy and selfish? Everywhere they go, they are so wicked and money controls their lives. a child does not have right to bury his parents the way he wants in Igbo stinking land. What a cursed tribe!

Can women inherit wealth from their fathers?
Yes or no?

If they are married, no. If not, yes.
Unless the father before dying gives the daughter any property. Then that property remains hers even after his death even if she is married.

Gosh!
I'm quite scared. Please can someone tell me about the orlu/Ihioma culture concerning burial in Imo state.
If its a woman her people will be consulted and argree on most of the arrangement. They will also dig her grave and aprove her burail site picked by her husband or children.
If its a man his mothers people will be consulted first. The grave site will be chosen by the first son, if young under the guide of the elderst son of daughters of the family ( umuumu) and the eldest man of the family. The umu umu dig the grave.
The man must be buried in his compound if he has not built any house he can then be buried in an empty land belonging to him or the family. When his children grow they develop the land. Meaning grave site is a mark of ownership.
Please dont be scared
Its a clear cut tradition and people here are libral nobody will opress you.

I was in the said burial a d witnessed everything that happened.
1. The man died mysteriously in the house with wound on his head and the wife and children never told the man's brothers after 24hours but hurried him to the mortuary.
2. The man was a retiree of CBN a d pays the wife N100k and children N50k each every month but they starved him of food. It's his brothers that feeds him.
3. This same daughter asked his out of their house when he came to ask them why they beat up their father.
4. The said girl is in Law School and still behaves stupidly.
5. The man built a house but the wife a d children insisted that he'll be buried behind the house which his immediate brothers and kinsmen object that he be buried in front of his house.
6. Despite the money given to the woman she cooks with firewood upstairs.
7. The woman and children were asking the man's Will to be read while the corpse was still in the mortuary.
8. Anyone that cares should come to Oguta, Imo State to verify for himself or herself.
The only reason to bury a man on an empty land or farm land is if he built no house

A sensible person can easily detect them on how much hatred they've got for their fellow igbos let alone fellow Nigerians.......Dem many for Nairaland via say their hatred dey always smell pass senior man shiit once they comment

you won't know the true attitude of an igbo man not until you live close to them.........na Dem sabi cause enmity pass for compound....

my dear,just take heart....
I love yorubas for their beautiful cultures and social life, they are adorn with beautiful fragrances of hatred, tribalism, competition, strfe and, above all conspiracy when you smell this at night then know a Yoruba is close at you then breath faster

So you are saying they killed their father?

How did you know how much they are giving to wife and children

Is it culturally wrong to bury someone at the back of his house as long as its the same compound
Yes its a disrespect to the dead man.
The information they are working with true or false was probably feed to them by her father.

Are you sure of this?

The girl in question is my cousin.

The mother is the second wife of the deceased. He married her when the first legally married wife had series of miscarriages and lost her only son. The man impregnated the girl's mother and took her in as a wife after concluding some traditional rites.

a father or brother can gift his daughter or sister land if he feels that her husband doent have enough to maintain her and her kids. So a woman can recieve gifts
coming to inheritance a woman can inherit from husband or father if she remains home as a single parent of boys.
She can also inherit land and property outside the viĺlage, it all depends on the father

Simple thing as burial, they show primitive!!

Simple thing as in coming together to grieve, bury the death and carry on with life, they must fight over something!

Someone died and the family saw it as a good time to fight over property?

Nigerians!! Wetin do you ?
Re: 3 Graves To Bury One Man: How My Late Father's Kinsmen Hijacked Burial — Lady by armyofone(m): 3:36pm On Oct 24, 2020
I remembered one i heard of - they said bring him back home to the village for he is the son of the soil.

The children came together, bought a portion in the private section of a church burial grounds and have the father rest in peace. They saw home as the place they were born and raised!

Greed has eaten deep into every thing!!

sisisioge:

Oh my! Yes we bury him as we please! As for his kinsmen, they can check our status for the obituary or get a courtesy phone call. That's all!

Imagine how distraught the family he left behind is because they want to involve some MFs in their father's burial. It is well shall...I'm not Igbo so I won't even try to understand the motive behind involving none family members in loved ones burials like this.

DO you realize that cremation is their Buddhist culture?
One thing wrong with you Africans is that most of you don't know is that all these European ways you are adopting are their special culture which doesn't apply to most Europeans.
In northern Nigeria, they bury people the day they died which they thought is Islamic culture but don't know it is Arabic culture.
Christians do procession before burying which is a serious Roman culture, not even that of English people.
Culture is for a particular set of people. It is only ignorant people that go on air to criticize theirs without first asking for reforms within themselves

Wake up!
Your culture usually denies your female child or children of their father's inheritance...can you tell me that is a good culture?
Your culture opens an avenue for some few jobless old people in your villages and your communities to exploit or extort you during burial and wedding ceremony is that a good culture?
Your culture is diabolical and fetish in nature can that be a good culture?
Your culture is discriminatory and callous...can that be a good culture...
After all, some of your cultural identities are borrowed if you doubt me, check some foreign materials attached to Igbo or niger-delta attires
Dude, we are in the 21st century...wake -up and stop becoming a meal ticket for some lazy old men in the village to leech on...they will collect your money and will still charm you....what a doubt waste. !

Don't move about and show your ignorance by commenting on what you don't understand.
Which Igbo culture denies any gender of their inheritance?
Mr man our cultures are different and the way we share things are different.
I support you that we are in the 21st century and women should be allowed to dress the way they like and speak up anytime like their Igbo counterparts and as well the wearing of hijab must be abolished.
Women should be given full right of what to do with their body like their Igbo counterparts.
Abortion should be legalized and most important of all lesbianism as women used to marry themselves in ancient Igbo culture.
Women should be given exclusive ruling sect in the country like the Igbo have the umuada.
Individuals not just women should be protected when they choose to switch religion like the Igbos allow everybody to choose theirs and most women in igboland don't attend Anglican or Roman Catholic with their family and are never disturbed about that.
A section of the Nigerias economy should be exclusively dedicated to women eg the fabric section and oil section just as the Igbo customs dedicate a section of every market to women exclusively.
Now you know whose culture is more liberal on women

Stop generalizing, it depends on the father, I am from Anambra state, and where I come from, women receive their shares of properties, so each community has their own tradition.

Lol... I laugh at most comments here. Firstly the lady sounded as though there have never been peace in that family which maybe true, secondly don't feel bad because ur mum agrees to marry to another tribe, it's never a problem however ur dad failed to educate you people well about his traditions, some denies it by hiding under the umbrella of born again Churches but in reality it's never a bad idea to bury ur dad in his ancestral home especially if he is the 1st son which I can bet he is! That he married ur mum from another tribe does not make him a less Igbo man! From the way the lady sounds means she didn't even see herself as an Igbo lady! But really is she is an Igbo girl. U better get accustomed to that. Ur uncles did well cos if they want they can let u bury him else where and they forget about u people but burying him in the family house will even bring u people closer home. The DPO understands it and he did a good job trying to unite u people. Don't feel bitterd it's all for vood
Abdulazeez99:
A Nigerian lady has taken to Twitter to narrate the bitter events surrounding the burial of her father,Igbere TV reports.

@ijayy_ who revealed that three graves were dug just to bury her father, stated that it was because his kinsmen hijacked his corpse.

The lady further disclosed that her father's kinsmen refused burying him in his land because it is a ''virgin'' land.

Igbere TV reports that the Twitter user who noted that everything one sees in Igbo movies are true and in fact worse, advised women to always study the culture of Igbo men they want to marry.
