The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-olu has admitted that Nigerian Military officers ordered the shooting of unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate last week Tuesday.

Sanwoolu, during a live interview on CNN, disclosed that according to CCTV footage gotten from the scene of the shooting, officers of the Nigerian Army were responsible for the attack.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that the Lekki shooting generated a massive outcry from human rights organisations and the international community, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

When asked about who ordered the shooting and which security branch carried out the order, Sanwoolu said;

"From the footage that we can see, there are cameras at that facility. It seems to me that there were men in military uniform, should be Nigerian Army."

The Interviewer pressed further,"So you're saying that it was Military officers who ordered peaceful protesters to be shot in lekki?"

Sanwoolu replied; "Yes, they were there. That's what it shows".

When asked if anyone will be held accountable, Sanwoolu said; "They certainly would....I mean, we'll do everything to ensure that they are held accountable"

"I'm not the C-in-C, I'm Governor of the state."

There are conflicting reports from two socially known individuals who were present at the scene. one said people died, another said he didn't see any dead body but only wounded people. So it's wrong to call it a hoax cos it's not certain. The only thing that is certain is that it was not a massacre cos the soldiers didn't fire directly at the protesters, they fired into the air in both of the videos online which showed the soldiers. The incident to me is a case of unprofessionalism of soldiers trying to disperse protesters and not to kill.
The second person that said he only saw injured people was not present when the shooting take place. He only got their after the shooting.

But what is the sense in military personnel shooting to disperse crowds undecided

I will keep on saying it, the Nigerian army is an overhype organization.

I will advise the Nigerian army to be careful for dz country, what happened in Lekki can lead to a civil war.

Nigeria constitution really needs to be work on.

This is exactly what it is. However, we can't blame the military for this. The military should never be involved in riot control, that's the job of the police. I think the only reason the military was drafted in in this Lekki case was because the crowd would have lynched any riot police if they were present.

I think most military the world over do not train troops on riot control. If you ask the average soldier, he/she will tell you they have never received any lessons on riot control. A few military do offer a week long riot control courses for serving troops, but it still doesn't take away the fact that the average person in the military is trained to kill. Killing the enemy is literally their job, but defining who the enemy is is the job of the civilian authorities. In the Lekki incident were the military seemed to have been drafted in, the civilian authorities got it wrong.

Yes, people may have been injured by live rounds. However, the idea that there was a massacre is subject to heavy evidence. If people say that the military killed people in Lekki and carted away the bodies like they did to the Shi'ites, the onus rests on them to show the evidence. The people allegedly killed have families who haven't been 'killed' by the military. The Shi'ites massacre was very clear, the video evidence was there. The families of the Shi'tes killed spoke out in local and international media. The same people talking about an alleged massacre in Lekki didn't speak out when there was incontrovertible live video evidence of the Shi'tes massacre, I wonder why.

Smart man, this is not the time to take one for the team. Point you finger directly at the culprits and try and rescue yourself from the web of lies and propaganda been spun by the evil that lurks in the country called Nigeria. The evil that thought it was a wise idea to send military personnel to a peaceful protest, to achieve what? well, their intentions were clear and this is another gross violation of fundamental human rights.
When reasonable people on here were applauding the military for remaining in their barrack throughout the length of the protests, its because it was obvious that the protests had nothing to do with the military, but for some reason the NA just seems to always want to input itself into civilian affairs, why?

A shooting occurred no one is disputing that or is applauding it/ or supporting it . We all condemn it but this massacre of 79 , 15, 7 to resurrection we should wait till the dust settles.

That which is evil must be called out as such "EVIL". If not for ones country at least for ones soul. Because again reminding people, the law of karma is real, but what most people often leave out is that karma is passed on from parent to child, it is unpalatable for people to hear this; because they think their child is innocent and hence will not suffer for the ills of the parent. If karma isn't repaid in ones life time, sorry, that persons children will bear the brunt of it. The military should have never been there. By now they should be smart enough to say NO to the politicians who use them to settle scores with Nigerians that elected them into office. The military must be brave enough to tell these politicians, listen to your people, do what they ask you to do, that, on which basis the politician was elected.
So long as it doesn't threaten the territorial integrity of Nigeria, the military should be disinterested.

Corporal Omoh Arrested For Jumping ATM Queue, Flogging Bank Customer
The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has arrested a Corporal, Omoh F, who was caught on video flogging a woman at an Oshodi branch of the United Bank of Africa in Lagos.
The Spokesman for the 9 Brigade, Major Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed this to The PUNCH on Monday.

This is what Nigerians always demand from public servants, swift and immediate justice meted out to erring personnel. This is only basic and never too much too ask. Nigerians must never be content with mediocrity. Punish erring officers, always make it public, Nigerians are watching keenly now more than ever before.

? Kudos to our Gallant soldiers for Repelling this attack. But these guys are still bringing this war to our doorstep. What this means is that if BH does not attack a military FOB they are free to roam around villages.

What will be the fate of a Military convoy traveling along Maiduguri-Damboa road?

If we do not take the war to them they will own the streets outside the trench. We should not be the Hunted.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has directed senior military personnel to declare their assets in compliance with the code of conduct for public officers.

He stated that personnel entrusted with leadership responsibility must understand the importance of assets declaration and code of conduct.

Declaring open, a two-day workshop on ‘Compliance with Assets Declaration and Code of Conduct for Officers and Soldiers,’ facilitated by Go-Getters Consulting Ltd., in Abuja on Tuesday, the COAS said the Nigerian Army would partner with the Code of Conduct Bureau to ensure public morality and accountability in the conduct of its activities.

Buratai noted that the workshop was important to the Army as it afforded the servicemen the opportunity to fulfil their obligations as public officers in line with the provision of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

He said, “The Nigerian Army under my leadership is desirous of maintaining the highest standard of accountability in the conduct of our activities, consistent with the requirements and behaviours of public officers which conform to the highest standard of probity, public morality, transparency and accountability.

“Accordingly, I have directed that the workshop be conducted in the six Army Divisions nationwide. My directive is premised on the belief that every Army personnel entrusted with leadership responsibility must understand the importance of Assets Declaration and Code of Conduct for public officers and comply with all the provisions and requirements.”

The Chairman, CCB, Isa Mohammed, noted that the challenges confronting the nation were the result of indiscipline in public life.

Mohammed, who was represented by Prof Samuel Ogundare, commended the Nigerian Army for organizing the workshop, which he said would afford the participants the opportunity to fully understand the workings of the Code of Conduct Bureau and the need for assets declaration.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj. Gen. H. Vintenaba, emphasised that the workshop would help military officers to understand the consequences of non-compliance with the provisions of the CCB on assets declaration.

He said, “This workshop is timely as it would offer officers and soldiers the opportunity to understand fully the requirements for code of conduct and assets declaration as well as consequences for non-compliance.”
