Finishing from NMS gives you an add advantage over others trying to be soldiers or going to NDA. NMS students who wish to become soldiers will still report to deport for further training to know which corps they belong to. those who wish to become officers will have to pass NDA exams 1st and will have advantage over others during the interview process

Everyone that finishes from NMS is a soldier and after NMS you cannot decide to continue or not. You must put in at least 4 years post NMS before you can even decide to discontinue.

Look, from the moment you join NMS which is JSS1, you are already a soldier with Army number....and right from the that JSS1 you are being paid.

After NMS you are entitled to higher study leave...you can choose to go to NDA (which is not even automatic, you must meet and pass required exam and screening)

Then, you can also choose to o go civil school I.e University... You will be released unhindered to go to University while you're still a soldier and been paid salary at the same time studying.

After graduation from university.....the OP's question comes in...and the answer is NO! You cannot do NYSC but can apply for letter of exemption. Military men can't serve the country twice.

The simple answer is NO.

The NYSC program is like a draft or a conscription. In some countries, people have to serve in the military. This is called conscription, or mandatory military enlistment.

The major difference between our NYSC and Korean draft/conscription is that NYSC is paramilitary, while a draft is military.


So, it doesn't make sense for a Nigerian soldier to go for NYSC which is paramilitary. A Nigerian soldier is already serving in line (and even beyond) the core objectives of the NYSC.

All NMS EXBOYS are equal. Some opt out, some seek release to further their education from the Army, some AWOL, some get 5 credit pipping and so on. For NYSC, excemption is okay for military men. What fvcking training/services goes on in NYSC (crap)

Even those that attended Command, Airforce or Navy schools will find NYSC camp 'watery'.

What i know is that before NMS boys were given the opportunity to automatically join the Army but not any more
NMS is rated above Airforce and Navy Secondary schools
Ex-Boys are exposed to some Basic military training (BMT)
Ex-Boys are not allow to put on military cap let alone the uniform after POP because of their atrocities, though soldiers accord them respect when you identify yourself
Ex- Boys are not admittedly into NDA automatically except outstanding candidates and strong recommendations
If you finish from MNS now you are just like every other school cert holder
If you finish from University as Ex- Boy you must serve (NYSC)
To join NMS, NDA, SSC, DSS is not easy and so also their training

They are soldiers and they get paid.

bro stop misleading the people. I am from a military family. Not everyone that went through NMS wants to be a soldier, parents have various reasons why they enrol their kids through NMS,I am talking from experience. And secondly I have two cousines as well after NMS and NDA didn't work out ,they went to the university,today one is a medical doctor, the other an engineer.

NYSC is service to the nation. The Military, the Police and other security agencies are services to the nation on their own.

Thus, a serving officer who just concluded First Degree or equivalent and within the 'National service age grade' may only notify NYSC via his/her school and get exemption Certificate thereafter.

However, you may see serving officers doing NYSC where:
1. Such individual insist on doing the NYSC service - His/Her military service is kept from the school and NYSC and his Agency is officially not aware that he has engaged in such program

2. Partaking in NYSC service as part of undercover assignment.

NMS graduates are soldiers ....if u want to further education to the university or NDA, the Nigerian Army will allow u....going to the NDA is a direct Liet. While going to the university is still makes u remain as a private soldier while u have the opportunity to go for SSC or DSS commission for the rank of either 2nd Liet. or Major for DSS depends...I thought u want to learn... I have given u the right information but if u still want to go ahead with the rubbish u have No P....but don't go mess with any Ex-Boy(NMS graduate) that they are not soldiers...they go through tough military training in secondary school...

Not true.

NMS graduates don’t get direct ticket to NDA. They join the queue like every other bloody civilians to write the entrance exam and if successful, they get called like any other bloody civilians secondary school graduates to NDA for their three weeks selection board.

And NMS graduates don’t have any special advantage at the NDA selection board beyond the usual ‘9ja factor’ that any other secondary school graduates could have. I have seen many NMS graduates tried NDA many times and failed to get in until they get tired or aged out.

The only guarantee for an NMS graduate is to get drafted into the military as private, just like any bloody civilian secondary school graduates can get draft after training exercise.

NMS graduates also have the options of going to the University, if they do and graduate within the required age, they must serve as NYSC. I have met many ex-boys on NYSC camps, they are most likely to be parade leaders, because they already have that skill mastered before arriving at the camp site.
