I applied for an emergency date in Lagos and was denied on Monday. However, I still saw the emergency date option on my page so I applied for emergency again but didn't get a reply. I cancelled my Lagos appointment this afternoon and choose Abuja with same MRV. Scheduled January 6th. Then I applied for an emergency date again and was approved in less than an hour. Now I have scheduled Dec 9th.

I know that was strange to have used emergency request 3 times with same MRV, but this was simply God's grace to me.
WTF!!

Please can anybody help me with this please, some is trying to make sevis fee payment for a friend right there in the u.s but he doesn’t know how to proceed, can anyone help please it’s urgent. Thanks.

If you still need the help, I won't advice your friend to do that payment himself. Sevis fee is non refundable so any mistake and your $359.99 is gone.

Tell your friend to go to Walmart or any grocery store, money store or bank that does western union and let them make the payment. It's easier that way.

Some workers in these stores won't know how to do the payment, some will even call it fraud but he should just move to another place

I don't know about the western union process but I know of the mailing payment process. Although mailing process could take 2 to 3 days to get confirmed. Let me know if you want me to explain that.

Good day dear nairalanders. I'm completely new and would need your counsel my elders.
I just got admission with Wright State University for MSc in biomed enginering, To start Jan 11th. Its so short a notice for me to wrap up work issues and apply and get a visa. My plans were that the Spring admission would be in March or so.
However, if I can tidy up work and other domestic issues, my questions:

1) How possible is it for me to obtain a visa before my orientation start date of 5th Jan
2) How can iI be better prepared for a successful interview.
3) If i choose to defer, what are the implications especially with scholaarship obtained?

Note, I was given about 1/3rd tuition scholarship and I have only my 1year total fee( balance of tuition + living expenses) in my account as I am self sponored.
Thanks and awaiting your propmt response

There were December dates available today which meant that if you paid your sevis and appointment fees, you could have gotten a date that would enable you interview and leave in due time. I don't know the earliest appointment date available though. You can still request for emergency appointment.

Go through this thread and study interview transcripts as they are the best simulation of what an interview looks like

Only your department can advise you on the implication of deferring, no one here can tell you that

He hasn't gained admission , plus he's currently awaiting admission with futa but the Assu strike hasn't helped at all. Please which one is gpa score though cos to the best of my knowledge all he has right now is his SSCE result and he did well.

For the SAT , he has not written but would Enroll him so he can start prepping for that. Thanks @Lagosismyhome for the advice. I appreciate

quote author=LagosismyHome post=96179885]

It depends on how academically sound your son is ..... if he has a strong profile , gpa score. Ssce result and sat then yes some schools can give him some scholarship or funding off his tuition . So if he hasn't taken SAT maybe he needs to

I am personally curious to why he hasn't started uni in naija. The 2018 is now 2 years ago and God forbid if he get denied again that almost enough years to have gone half way a bsc in naija. Isnt that risky putting all eggs into this abroad going basket ?.
Your case is somehow. If he hasn't taken or registered for the SAT , he won't be able to apply with SAT until this time next year because all SAT registrations for this admission cycle has ended. If he is going to apply to top schools or Any school for scholarship that will give him admission then he needs the SAT. However, you might be lucky if he has "stellar" extracurriculars and top notch grades,he will be accepted to top schools because of the test optional policy( But this is a crapshoot as a he will be competing with a lot of Nigerians who wrote the SAT). Why it might be too late to start applying to US schools, you can check out Canadian and German schools which are cheaper .
But if you believe, he has the stats to give the good schools a shot , then know that you have less than 2 months to work out everything including financial aid as US universities fees no be beans

If their is a special thread , someone should qoute me . Please
There are undergraduate applicants but they are mostly the too old (20+ year old trying to avoid ASUU) or the too young( less than 16 year old). Most lack the hunger and determination to pursue their goal. They are rarely active but you can learn more by joining A2C on reddit and R/Sat. You might be lucky to join a WhatsApp group where you will see other Africans especially Ghanaians and Kenyans .Those countries are usually the most serious Africans in the groups. Last year , a Kenyan got into all ivies apart from Brown , another got into Harvard( check her YouTube at Wangari Mwangi).

Have you been cleared? Let me add my input and hopefully, wait for others to add theirs too.

First of all, Congrats on your admission.
You can obtain a visa before the given start date by your school and you know orientation is always compulsory.

I don't know if you've seen your I20 form yet, signed form.
If you have not, you can't proceed with booking.
If you have, you can proceed with booking by making your visa payment first, book an appointment. You may actually be lucky to see a date in Dec (it happens) but it you get a date that doesn't fit in, then you need to go for emergency appointment.
If it's approved (depending on the available but close date), all glory to God.
Before going for your interview, ensure you pay your SEVIS fee 72 hrs before appointment date.

How prepared you can be begins with you accessing, surfing, go through some transcripts here. Get acquainted with the kind and nature of VO's questions - Know the basic and fundamental stuffs about your course choice, why you chose it, Infact many other things you need to know - Know how to build your confidence garnished with your eloquence and boldness.
Okay, kindly go through the transcripts. These transcripts are personal but you'd get so many basic stuffs you'd be needing.

Get your documents ready and let God be the first.

If you chose to defer: You don't chose to defer without informing your school about the circumstances. Hear from them first, know the terms and conditions before executing your plans, especially when it comes to this scholarship. Hope the scholarship is indicated in your I20(if you've received it already)?

And what's the duration of your study?
How long will it take?
If you have one year total fee, who's gonna provide the rest and how?
Being self-sponsored doesn't really make much difference - it's just same as having a sponsor.

I don't know about the policy of your school though, but from the VO may think you can't provide for yourself after the first year.
The total amount there should show that the money can pay your tuition and sustain you all through your program.

Infact, your I20 is likely going to show the exact scholarship amount and your total deficit should be good.

Let me stop here and allow others to contribute.

Please enlighten me more in about the A2C on Reddit. I have no idea what that means .

And yeah you are right about them lacking the hunger and determination. As you can see my son is less concerned about all the process.

I want to know.

Send $ equivalent to someone in the US. The person will get a money order from USPS office or some other place, then mail the money order alongside the Sevis slip to the address indicated on the Sevis slip. As soon as the mail is delivered, payment would be confirmed.

Please house, a friend of mine needs help on what to do;

She was denied Visa last month. Her sponsor's account is a corporate account with the exact amount as with her 1 year estimated cost.
Now, she will be having her second interview in December but she's contemplating on whether to get a statement of account from someone else with a personal account and a higher available balance or she should stick with the initial statement she took to the previous one that she got denied. She doesn't have any funding from the school.

Please, everyone's contribution is welcomed to this as she's very confused about what to do. Thanks in anticipation.

I think the usual advice regarding SOA is to ensure that the balance is at least 2x the requirement on i20. Also, personal accounts are often preferred to corporate accounts.
