Ok,Well said sir.
Nigeria is owing a national debt of more than $3.2 trillion, they keep borrowing and where does the money they keep borrowing go to?
Yes they can tax more, but must cut some allowances and suspend some spending they make abroad, like traveling, because when they travel the money from the flights is very huge and finds its way out and then into the foreign countries pocket, spending unnecessarily in foreign countries now that the naira keeps decreasing in value, spending the naira on expensive cars and too much luxury instead of using that very cash to buy from and invest in indigenous industries, incentives and normal necessities, once they do things this way they can start increasing taxes...

The first step to economic recovery is cutting cost of governance.

You cannot do without it.
All the monies we need should be gotten from govt.

Nigerians are already overtaxed relative to resources available.
According to NBS, Nigerians spend most Of their money on food because It is too small in the first place and inflation.

Any government that increase taxes wants to destroy the country.

Oga, tax so that politicians will use it to buy luxurious cars, and pay Aso Rock Rent worth hundreds of millions yearly? Or use it to pay them selves outrageous allowances.

We need change our political structure to model that of the UK or the American system if living together is a must for us. Else no amount of money generated will be used to benefit the masses. Lie, lie

Lmao ...u think they don't know the implications of spending middle class tax like oil money ?

Why do u think they done want to tax the middle class for them to feel it ?...u think middle class are like the poor divided across tribe n religion ?

Or u think they can be bribed with 5k

You are actually the one that didn't read what you wrote. Problems are tackled from top down and not the other way round. Prudence on the part of governance means reducing corruption in the system. Look at the analogy you gave with iPhone. Even if we give Buhari £4k to buy the iPhone, they will loot £3.9k. Cutting cost of governance technically means ending corruption, restructuring the country, reforming systems and building strong institutions. I never said corruption started with this current government but we can't hold yesterday accountable for our current situation. We have today (Buhari government) to address tomorrow's ( future) problems. Buhari was actually wrong when he said change begins with you. Government everywhere sets the pace, gives directions with laws and policies.

My brother, the kind of rapid change you are talking about can only be achieved by a benevolent dictator under dictatorship and not under a corrupt democracy, like what's practised in Nigeria, which brings us back to CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU.. President Buhari alone cannot make any meaningful change without the legislature and the judiciary. If these 2 key arms are corrupt, there's little the president can do.

Furthermore, the President needs people, as demanded by the constitution, to help run his government. Certainly, they'll be Nigerians.. Now tell me how President Mohammadu Buhari can singlehandedly change anything if the system is full of corrupt people? No matter how clean the President is, there's absolutely NOTHING he can do, that's it. His hands are tied.

However, if more Nigerians inculcate in themselves, the basic principle of honesty and integrity, then there'll be hope, that, at least, some of our representatives will be honest and will be ready to effect change and force corrupt elements to embrace change.

Otherwise, it's not going to happen. In democracy, the majority implement their will. The minority cannot. Only the President cannot. Only a governor cannot. It requires COLLECTIVE EFFORTS..

Only way the minority or the President can enforce change on the majority corrupt lot is in a dictatorship, and they have to be benevolent, otherwise, corruption can worsen under this system.

This is WHY CHANGE BEGINS WITH US, IN DEMOCRACY.

Nothing will still happen bro! Nothing!

There are countries with lesser resources but have built better countries than Nigeria with the little they have!

If we can watch our leaders loot our billions, the money they generate from VAT alone affects all, including the middle class.. We watch them loot it and we cant do any shit!

Almost all workers pay tax from their salary before they even receive the salary.... we see it deducted from our salaries, the same govt loot it. What have we done?

Nothing! No amount of tax system will work if we dont change our system of govt... It is easier to hold my govt accountable than running to Abuja. Unfortunately, my govt doesnt have control over the main things that push any society forward. He is powerless like every other governor.

We allocated too much powers to the president. In fact, Naija system eh, the president is a mini god. Rubbish. Fix the political system to be more realistic with modern governance, utilize the tax u collect in each region, tax more. That is it!

But,
If India past 2 presidents were named OBJ and a certain Jonathan, along with a certain former minister of Petroleum (Madam Opolo eyes) they won't have all these BILLIONS of DOLLARS to fall back on and make life easier for their citizens, just like the stimulus package Trump gave some eligible Americans months ago,
It would have been looted dry by their past 2 presidents and their cronies.
#BitterTruth.
May God punish every politicians that have stolen from our national treasury.
No matter the party they are or keep jumping from.
They will all never end well for destroying the foundation of our nation.

Stop the senseless blame game

Tell your Buhari to order the agency that fixes payments of public office holders to cut down their salaries and allowances, including that of the national assembly.

Tell him to stop constituency projects asked the legislature to execute. It is unconstitutional. They should focus on legislative business.

Tell him to send a bill to expedite restructuring in a way that the states manage the police, state control their resources, and practice one federal legislative arm by closing down the Senate after this administration.

Tell him to set up a unit that monitors how MDAs spend their monies and send weekly reports to the EFCC and ICPC.

Tell him to set up a corruption-trying tribunal. Lawyers have been saying this for years.

Those are simple steps a leader who means business should take for his people to understand that he is not on an ego trip.

Effective taxing is the key sir

Bros, even the current tax, the payers don't pay the actually amount and despite that, the tax collectors embezzle at least 50% of tax they collected yearly!!

It seems you are benefiting from this messed system of goverment. Have you checked the amount of money being spent in running government and its agencies? They keep buying latest models of operational vehicles and majority of those agencies don't generate revenue for the government. If the government tax the citizens they will use the proceeds from those tax to support their lavish life style and also use it during election period. Most of those people in government are criminals, thugs and heartless individuals who don't care about the citizens. Very wicked set of people.

[color=#006600]

Thank you my bro, he is talking about taxes ,this is the time to reduce or eliminate taxes to help stimulate liquidity which will help stimulate growth. But no, to fund their lavish life style the will squeeze the masses of what ever little liquidity they have through multiple taxation thus stifling any way to bring growth thus leading to laying off is workers and businesses closing.

.. The final burden of your suggested tax falls on James and Janet whom the government has done nothing for since 1960 no road, portable water, electricity, health care etc. Your suggested solution speaks volume of your understanding of the problems this country is facing, I rest my case.

IamHeWrites:
Former vice-presidential candidate Peter Obi has given out what can be described as a pathway to economic recovery, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Obi, who spoke on Arise TV on Monday, agreed that the recent recession which affected about 40 countries around the world was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He however warned that the recession would bite harder on Nigeria because the country already had ‘underlying economic conditions’ ranging from extreme poverty to high unemployment rate, high number of out-of-school children, highest infant mortality rate and soaring incidences drug abuse, among others.

Obi explained that unlike the previous recession where Nigeria recklessly borrowed its way out, this present recession demands fiscal discipline for the country to scale through.

Igbere TV reports that he argued that the COVID-19 fiscal stimulus of about $5 billion provided by the Federal Government to recover the economy, was too low.

Comparing Nigeria with nations like India, Obi said they were spending around $300 billion to help them exit the recession, out of which $50 billion is for supporting small businesses. He further said that what was more worrisome, was the fact that even the little fiscal stimulus provided in Nigeria, was not getting to the right people and are not well accounted for too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHWr_OSpvDY

Obi also suggested a private sector driven economy that would lift many financial burdens from the government.

https://twitter.com/ARISEtv/status/1333356202093391890?s=19

They will send EFCC after him for this statement of fact.

You cannot tax poverty.

Nigerians are poor.

They need money to grow the economy.

Countries usually reduce taxes to increase disposable income and stimulate the economy.

Cut waste, use the excess funds and grow from there.

They should Tax any foreign exchange transaction more than N2 Million at 1 % of the Value and Tax any Owambe Party Costing More than N2 Million Naira , School fees of Overseas Nigerian Students and those going for medical Treatment abroad at 25%.

Private Jet Journeys should be taxed at 5%.

That way we can rebuild Nigeria's Schools Hospitals and Railways.
