A former Kano Central Senator, Rufai Hanga, says President Muhammadu Buhari is retaining the Service Chiefs because he is afraid of a coup.

Hanga, an ex-member of the House of Representatives, stated this in an interview with newsmen.

The politician recalled that the National Assembly had, on different occasions, advised Buhari to remove the military heads.

Hanga decried that the topmost officers remain in service despite attaining retirement.

He said, “The Senate and the House of Representatives have made this call several times, but the president has refused to act for the reasons best known to him. Some people say he is afraid of coup.

“He once mentioned it that he didn’t want to change the Service Chief because there were very ambitious officers down the ladder. That means he is afraid of coup. The most unfortunate thing is that these Service Chiefs have over stayed their usefulness.

“Some of them have spent 40 years in service. The rule is that you retire after 35 years of service or upon the attainment of 60 years of age. Some of these people have spent far and above their age of retirement so much that the junior officers are being retired.”

Hanga described the situation as demoralizing and disheartening. He, however, stressed that the sack calls by federal lawmakers were mere political statement.

Hanga wondered why they have since failed to take a decisive action to enforce their demand.

“The resolution is empty because the president has refused to budge to their demand. So, there is nothing they can do.”

He also dismissed the House of Representatives’ invitation to Buhari.

“What has he not said before? If he refuses to appear before the House, nothing will happen”, he asserted.

Buhari may appear at the Green Chamber on December 10th or 15th.

Benjamin Kalu, Reps spokesperson, made the confirmation to reporters last Thursday in Abuja.

The Nigerian leader is expected to brief the lawmakers on insecurity in the country.

He was invited after the massacre of more than 40 Borno farmers by Boko Haram.

Kalu recalled that the House leadership had engaged the President and asked when it would be convenient for him.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, met Buhari at the Presidential Villa last Wednesday.

Kalu said December 8 would not be possible because of the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We are looking at December 10 or December 15. The President has broken the jinx by promising that he would appear before the house.”

cool

As a former Coupist , he knows what's at stake

Funny thing is that Burutai and Olorunisakin had already dropped their notification of retirement to the Presidency for quite a while, Chief of Naval Staff has already even stopped being very active for a while.. with Buhari ignoring it

So Buhari's desire to remain in office without fear of a coup d'etat, is more important to him than the lives of millions of Nigerians, who are victims of several criminal gangs that have sprung up across the length and breadth of the country, and have become further emboldened as a result of the glaring cluelessness of the so-called service chiefs. With this, Buhari has shown he's nothing but a self-serving individual who thinks only about himself and doesn't deserve the number 1 seat in the land

One who kills with knife is always fearful of anyone holding knife. One who overthrew a democratically elected government is afraid of being given the same treatment

What exactly is he afraid of if he is doing the right thing, he knows he is minus one that is why he is retaining them.

Let's be sincere, I wouldn't hand such delicate position to someone I don't trust with my eyes closed. So you shouldn't expect Buhari to change service chiefs like underwears. Coupled with past mistakes.

Be that as it may, it's high time we accept the fact that whatever you cannot change with your thumbprint, violence, negotiations, pre elections, you will never change it post election. I don't want to discourage protests or criticisms, but at the same time we must accept the fact that you cannot remove a sitting president even governor sef in Nigeria.(" Except the president chooses to be removed")

So we must critically assess who we give such supreme powers to. Once the mistake has been made. Just endure till he leaves. Also, understand that for every mistake, it takes 8 years to correct it, because every wrong leader will be corrupt enough to be power thirsty.

So 3 mistakes is 24 years. That's almost one full generation. I hope we get it right 3 years from now. Because as we speak the youths don't have representatives yet.

A case of once beaten twice shy.

But I doubt if anything like coup can ever happen in Nigeria again.

Tell him that international bodies and governments want to remove him because the disaster he has caused in Nigeria is affecting European countries, Canada, US, etc and they cannot continue to watch because their countries are also under threat as Nigeria fails and edges towards another Syria and Yemen.

He should resign today or resign now.

Why should our darling daddy be afraid of a coup?

He has performed well in all metrics and Nigeria is one of the best countries in the world to live in and things are going well.

Very true

He is afraid of sacking them because he allows them loot billions just to keep him in aso rock doing nothing...that's why burutai was quick to send army to kill protesters who he perceive wanted to unseat an illiterate northern Muslim president to them the protest was unnecessary and an attempt to unseat an Allahist

ULOPVQ:
The Mali scenario may play out sooner than expected in Nigeria, the boys in khaki are already tired of this administration and how it handles the affairs of the Republic. It should be a bloody coup if it should happen, they should execute everybody that has tasted any form of power in the Republic.

WE TAKE AUTHORITY OVER EVERY BLOODSHED AND BLOODTHIRSTY PROGNOSTICATORS IN THE NAME OF JESUS!

ONLY AN IGNORANT GENERATION WILL BEAT THE DRUMS OF WAR.
