Sleep paralysis is very scary.
The last time it happened to me was during my final year in school, I was stressed that period. It made me so scared that I couldn’t continue sleeping in the room, knocked on my neighbor’s door around 2am and told them someone wanted to kill me grin

I did my research the next morning, read about ways to prevent it from happening, I’ve been good since then.

Dreadlock69, you would do well not to listen to those here who are saying its spiritual or whatever.
Sleep paralysis does happen to many people and its really not an issue. Nearly everyone would have experienced some form of it in their lifetime.
It could be as subtle as feeling of being pressed in your sleep or feeling of being tied down.
Some experience it while falling asleep (hypnagogic) or just before waking
(hypnapompic)
What you could do is have a regular sleep pattern, avoid late heavy meals, bedtime smoking or alcohol or caffeine. You can also manage stress and anxiety if you have one or speak to your doctor if you have ptsd.

This happens only when you sleep face up right? I defeated mine by not sleeping face up and as I got older I learnt how to fight it off whenever I'm sleeping facing up.

I created this topic in this section to get a wider audience please contribute if you have /had the experience
Early my teenage years, I do have a female neighbor very close we play and do all things together both bad and good you know what I mean, most times she will sleep and her eyes will be open lying at her back ,I do mock her about this and laugh about it .she always say she can't control it that I won't understand that she see everything happening around her but can't move ,I'll be like how is it possible I don't believe you but she will say dreadlock69 you won't understand.though she really stressed herself sleeping late but she is very bright with her books my parents used her to mock me.
However mine started when I was ss2 I could remember vividly well it happened one night I was sleeping all of a sudden something griped me I can't move I can't breath it was like something or someone inside the room was taking my life force out of me ,I'm very much aware of my environment but when it's stopped I be gasping for air and my heart will be racing ,this repeatedly happens every night at times worst and horrifying ,one night it happened again I was terrified and told my parents they told me nothing gonna happen that I should pray over it.
"Omo nah just the beginning I dey see ooo"
Later when I finish my secondary school I still experiencing it but ,this time round I can breath well but still see images .then I got my new phone I surfed the internet then I came across an article talking about this which seems to relate to what I experience then I made more and more research and findings which were scarying and calming.i remember one time I'd told my brother not to touch my phone strictly warning him then I slept off and the sleep paralysis started I woke up but can't do anything can't move ,can't talk just lifeless but I can see and I'm aware of what is going on in my environment and behold my brother was using my phone I was in anger but I can't do anything I just lay there lifeless with anger in me till it fades off thank his stars he went out before I regain consciousness
Another experience was when I watching a horror movie it happened the again when I was having a nap I was so scared I just have to close my eyes not to see images.
Later on I had full control over it and sometimes I transit from that state to lucid dreaming. Then I had a good work with all good amenities not stressful you can take a nap anytime you like , funny enough my partner experience it also I noticed the day he was sleeping but his eyes where open trying hard to move his body ,I just left him till it's fade off
So one day I was having a nap in the bedroom my boss was calling me I could hear him but I can't move anything just laying lifeless I was praying he should not catch me in this state .
Sometimes I'll have to call my partner but he is still in that state but I have to wake up,which he do wake up looking frightened.

I just learned how to lived with it cause I can't do anything bout it and feel for people who experience this but don't know how to manage it
Probably transit from that state to lucid dreaming
Maybe someday I'll have to tell my spouse or someone to close to me to not get frightened if they see me like that maybe a girlfriend, a wife ,my child I can't say for now
What your opinion on this

Been more than 10 years it happened to me last. When it happens, focus on moving one part of your body (for me, it was my arm).
NOTE: Remove fear from your mind whenever it occurs
I do this a lot sometimes it works sometimes it's doesn't depends on your sleep position that moment
Thanks for your advice

Dear OP,

There is nothing spiritual about your problem. To reduce the rate at which you experience sleep paralysis, try and set multiple alarm clocks to wake you from your sleep at intervals. Also, try and force yourself out of your temporarily paralysed state each time you experience it. It might be difficult at first, but with time you might be able to just snap out of it at will. its all about your mental strength.

PS: The suggestions I've given do not have any scientific backing. They are just my opinion and it possibly might not work.

I sincerely hope that you find solution to your problem quickly.

There is nothing special about FTC.
yes bro someone can snap out if it I do that a lot

Don't let what you read online deceive you that it is sleeping paralysis.

What is happening to you is demonic. You are under witchcraft attack. Nobody who have such experience that won't suffer one misfortune or the other. Some ignorant dudes will soon land and start claiming intellectuals, and forming technocrats by calling black people ignorant.

But bro, take my word for it,you are under demonic siege,go for deliverance because I was in that situation of yours ,I did deliverance and am totally free from that rubbish. I sleep perfectly well like a baby for many years now
I used to think it was spiritual too until it hooked me someday, it was so intense that day I had to make research on it.

I knew it was normal after reading this tread below on Nairaland.

almost every body in the world experience it, so nothing demonic about it..

Mine has reduced but let me share a recent experience with you. One evening before I went to bed, I decided to wash my dirty white singlet and hung it above the shower rail in the bathroom. I usually switch off the light before sleeping but this time I couldn't detect if the light switch was turned on or off because NEPA refused to do the needful. Out of fatigue, I left the bathroom door open and went to bed which is opposite to the door but extreme end of the room.

I don't know how long I have slept, but suddenly felt a cold breeze with eolian sound. I opened my eyes but couldn't move all I could see was a very bright blue cloud with an angel carrying a sliver trumpet. I forced myself to fly up but I couldn't. Can this truly be RAPTURE . I was still in fear of making heaven when I finally gained conscious.

Haa. NEPA is at work again. OX standing fan rotating at its highest speed; the white light in the bathroom illuminating the terracotta bathroom blue tiles on the wall and the singlet looks like an angel with the shower hose head looking like trumpet. Nigeria is hell itself especially in this Buhari era. I can't wait to Japa to heaven like US or Canada.

op was in your shoes years back but I can now manage my own.

this was the tread I read that made my calm.

https://www.nairaland.com/766203/sleeping-paralysis-share-experience

it's very normal, learn to manage it, try sleeping with your face down or sideways.
also avoid your legs pointing upward or your head way below your body.
it occurs as a result of your brain having difficulty connecting to your body.
Re: My Experience With Sleep Paralysis by Aug28th(m):
I can't remember the first time I had this experience (maybe 3 or 4 years ago) but it has happened to me before and my most recent one was just two days ago around 4am when I was trying to catch some sleep after I finished working.
Honestly, I don't know if it's science or some sort of demons trying to do God knows what.
Whenever it happens to me, I always find it difficult to move my body and I'm aware of everything happening in my immediate environment, though I don't have difficulties in breathing.
Seems there's nothing I can do about it; so, I've learnt to live with it and I'm doing fine.

Scary!!! Mine was when I was asleeop, I felt weak all of a sudden in my sleep I could not move any part of my body then a thought crossed my mind that if I do not force my self out I might just die in my sleep, I had to use all my remaining strength to move my head, suddenly I woke up.

Another one was when I slept with my back facing down and my front facing uoward, I started hearing evil laughs, u know like those demonic laugh, immediately I heard it I woke up. Someone actually told me it was because of the way I slept.

First of all, your use of English is highly poor.

Secondly, sleep paralysis is not spiritual but watch Mr righteousness as he comes to tell you how far away you've been from God and that you need deliverance. That guy can spew rubbish.

Sleep paralysis is a situation where you are awake but the muscles that controls us during REM which prevents us from acting out our dream is not fully active.

Thirdly, what kind of a weird job do you have that allows you sleep in a bedroom? That's loud.

The fourth, you're not even experiencing total sleep paralysis, seems to me like you're half-experiencing sleep paralysis and possibly need to get your brain checked, maybe you're suffering from narcolepsy.
Thank you for your advice

Okay brother, it's all good. I am glad you didn't see my comment on your English as an insult but rather something to try improve on.

I wish you all the best and always try to sleep when it's due. Don't prolong sleeping time. Also, don't sleep late. It helps.

Good luck.

Don't let the intellectuals deceive you.

I once as kid would wake up each night around 2am and cry and scream my heart out, this episodes [s][/s]started after I watched a horror movie.
During this period I also suffered what intellectuals would call Sleep paralysis.
I kid u not it was some pretty scary moments for me.

This episodes continued for years till when I was in JSS2 when I later understood spiritual matters better and began to rebuke every evil speaks words of faith and scriptures from the bible

Then the episodes suddenly stopped.
I would advise you to go for prayers or better still get good books that teach about faith like that of the late Rev kenneth Hagin, and go on your knees in serious prayers.

Evil is real, but God is more real and more powerful

I have experience such paralysis before right from my jss3class to yr 1 in university, the worst of it is that my is everyday both morning and night, scared of going to sleep because something or someone will come and press me even when I tried calling Jesus it worsen (because its as if what ever is pressing me reminds me I don't know Jesus I shouldn't call him. Its worse when I say the name than when I don't say it) until I start making sounds so someone should wake me up, if no one does it takes sometime for me to wake up. It even happens to me In night class twice, so embarrassing because someone will have to wake me up from the way am sounding. To cut the whole story short, they was a crusade in sch which I attend and the pastor prayed with me, whenever something comes to press me immediately I say JESUS it goes away instantly. (Only comes on rare occasion specially when I just sin) And it won't come back. So from my experience I believe its spiritual and also the way you sleep matters alot if you believe its not spiritual. Don't sleep on your back facing up also remember to pray. All this paralysis started when because i do have terrible dreams I couldn't escape or run away wherever I ran to I will be caught so I decide to cheat by closing my eyes tight so I will transcend back to the physical regime.( I dream a lot due to horror movies or my imaginations) Until one day when I tried it I was follow back to the physical forcing me to sleep back this is closing my eyes, which I would never do until am freed. So that's my experience. but I don't experience such again you will outgrow it and sleep well

Re: My Experience With Sleep Paralysis by Nobody:
Demons are pressing you, when I was small, it happened to me several times but due to the fact that I am a prophetess by birth, I could see what was pressing me, I couldn't talk or move, I was shouting Jesus Christ in my mind, the girl sleeping beside me couldn't see me being pressed but I saw what was pressing me. Now that I am hot for Christ, I can't remember the last time demons pressed me in my sleep. Give your life to a Christ, engage in warfare prayers, stay away from fornication and nothing will press you again.
