I don't work with any of these fintech loan companies.. But I can tell you one thing..

Nigerians don't like to pay loans.. This almost killed ren money.. And a lot of other finance firms hence their strong stance on zero tolerance for default..

No 1 rule of loans.. Do not take loans you ain't sure you can pay back.. Trust me. No loan company will listen to your excuse even if the person is sick or has serious challenges..cos obviously.. Nigerians love to give excuses as why not to pay back a loan.

No 2...only take a loan if you have concrete and realistic plan of how to pay back. I used to take loans years ago from palm credit.. And I only take the loan 2 weeks or a week to salary day when I might have exhausted my funds.. Knowing that.. The duration I take the loan tally's with when salary will be paid.. And I never defaulted cos I disciplined myself never to owe anyone or anybody.. And anytime I am paid salary.. The first thing I do is settle any debts... Then I manage whatever thats left..

The truth is this... Nigerians will always give reasons not to pay back and as some of us in core finance sector kNows... When you have a defaulting client..most clients only pay when you apply serious pressure on them and they only pay to those that disturb them most...

It's all the truth..

Hence the saying.. Don't borrow money you can't let go.. Cos.. Most Nigerians don't even pay back money borrowed from friends and family.. Let alone loan Companies.

It's wrong to borrow to feed especially if you are not working.... Some borrow and forget that they are even owing

Let's be clear. The only reason y'all hate loan apps is because you took a loan you know you can't/won't pay back.

After agreeing to the terms and conditions of the loan, you all come back crying online to castigate the same loan app that choose to help you in your desperate hour.

Imagine condemning sokoloan for debiting your account without notice grin Are you people ma.d? Did you read the terms and conditions of the loan during your application?

You used your hand to submit your contact, yet come back crying and asking why sokoloan called your contacts. Some of you are just m.ad.

Btw, 99% of Nigerians are not credit worthy. You all are the same people that fail to pay back interest-free loans given to you by friends, neighbors and relatives.
When did I condemn them for debiting my account without notice? It was the right thing to do.

And not 99% of Nigerians, there are few good people out there who don't like to get stained, I may not be one.

Like I said, they have to stop sending this messages full of lies to people's contacts. It's EVIL!
They could ruin ones image and reputation for life. Pray never to be a victim.

When registering on the app, u will see a notification asking u, access to location, access to camera, access to CONTACTS and all that, when u accept all, this is when they were able to have access to all contacts

Who gives them your contacts on your phone?.... Is it the telcos?... honestly if it’s the telcos then they should be out of business yesterday as it’s illegal even in the big cities or jungle....Unless of course Nigeria is a zoo where it does not apply.

Too many bad reviews about soko loan.

What you people actually don't understand is, if a customer refuses to pay back a soko loan, the money will be deducted from the salary of the staff that disbursed the loan. That's why they are so mean and ruthless. Sometimes they will even threaten you with police grin. The will embarass you by texting all your contacts including your exs and enemies.

If you know how much debt these companies are in, you will understand what they're going through. That is why they go all out with vile against their debtors. i know of someone who collected 150k from carbon to fund his travel to SA. How carbon go collect that money now?

Some of these online loan apps are scammers. I once had an issue with halocredit. The app on playstore said the loans were given for a term of 90 to 180days for an interest of 24 to 36 % which i thought was cool.

I downloaded and applied for 40k and i was offered 27k which i accepted to my surprise i was credited 16k and told the 11k was for fees and interest. And i was to pay back 27k in 8days. Thats more than 70% for a duration of 8days.

Immediately i called and sent a mail to their customer care and told them this wasnt acceptable and this wasnt what was written on the front page of the app. Their response was there was another terms and conditions written within the app. So i told them they should take their money back cos terms and conditions are should be clear , easy to access and bold. You cant have 2 terms and conditions for one app.

However they didnt take the money back after several calls and mails. 8days later they started calling me to pay 27k. And i told them i wont but will only refund the 16k given to me. They started threatening. So i reported the case witg all evidence to CBN and efcc and the reply i got was they dont licence any online loan app. And i should deactivate all my cards. And this i have done. They sent msgs to my contacts and a forwarded a disclaimer to all my contacts that they are scammers.

Not every nigerian is a debtor but some of these loan apps are just scammers and thieves .

Quick one.

So if a person submits an application allowing access to his/her contacts and bank account, does that give right to sending stupid messages to the contacts or debiting the persons account twice and not refunding? Or even impersonating the NPF and some Broadcasting Channels like TVC all in the name of trying to recover a loan.

By stupid message I mean calling someone a criminal on the run, a fraudster...

the person you call a criminal or a fraudster also submitted his/her house address. Do any of the recovery agents visit the house to confirm that the person is actually fraudulent or on the run before sending such messages?
It's only ok if they'll send a message to the contacts stating clearly that you got a loan and have refused to pay back. Nothing more. Anything more than that that's false gives the debtor edge over them.

BTW it's only a matter of time before the attention of NPF and all broadcasting channels is drawn to how this loan collectors are impersonating them, then you'll know that the loan companies do not actually support their method of loan recovery like you do.

Recover your loan by any means but do it right and legal.

Honestly something needs to be done about all these loan sharks angry how can a company go as far as lying against someone that they ran away with company funds undecided

The highest they should have done was to call the guarantors and not calling the whole contacts on the phone

Do you know in some Asian countries fund default is a crime against the state? Why would you not pay a loan you were given? If you know you will come up with excuses do not bother collecting the loan.

I will advise you that you have great chances of winning this case. Keep all evidence and go meet a competent Lawyer.

The Lawyer will probably ask you to pay for the processing fee at the court which is a small fee and then, an agreement will be reached on the percentage of money to be recovered from SOKOLOAN.

This case is a case of character defamation and they need to come up with evidence of how you were an EXISTING criminal (what police station confirmed this, what crime made you an existing criminal and who you committed the crime to/with for you to be tagged an existing criminal). Also, they will need to provide evidence of how you were on the run (where you ran to, what efforts they put in place to search for you and how they arrived at this conclusion).

The company in question is owned by Chinese who never trained their staff in a professional settings but keep recruiting all in the name of wanting to make profit. Don't be surprised, this company also have several loan apps in Nigeria. So, it is not just Soko but about 2 or other 3 apps with different names. These Chinese are only concerned about money they can make in Nigeria while their staff are of the slavery mindset in their own country. Their staff think and reason like slaves and slaves alone. No thought on seeing themselves as service providers for the company. In fact, it is the staff also that come up with this type of message because of their slavery mentality without any thought on the legal implications of this. Their thoughts are always that whoever borrows money from SOKO can't afford a Lawyer to take up cases when the time comes.

Their staff are graduates but act like uneducated people as there are several ways of getting your money without character defamation which includes sending a message plainly that this person has defaulted in repaying loan to his guarantors (there is nothing as embarrassing as this).

Dear Sokoloan, I will be in my best behaviour while posting this.

I applied for a loan a month back which I didn't repay in time. I got a call from an extremely rude official 5 days after I received the loan. She informed me that payment is due and I should do that immediately. I tried to be friendly but she wasn't. I asked if I could pay part but she arrogantly declined.
The next day I got a call from her again with insults this time. I told her she's not professional with her work and that made her worse. She threatened to disgrace me in the worst way ever (via SMS). My phone got stolen that night. A day after she sent the most devastating message ever to all my contacts. How she got access to them still surprises me. In her message, she said I'm a wanted criminal on the run with company funds. I got tons of messages on Facebook and missed calls and messages on my other line - my former employers, course mates, lecturers, neighbors, family, besties, other influential people. I was really mad! I had over 300 contacts for Christ sake. I called her immediately to send a convincing message to my contacts. She was adamant and continued with her insult, I fired back not minding her age. I threatened to take the case to court, but I was financially down at that moment. My sister called her immediately she got one of her text and they ended up insulting eachother. I called her some days after, she was a bit calm, and I asked if she would resend another SMS and make everything transparent to my contacts. She said once the payment is complete we'd discuss that. When the payment was deducted automatically from my account, I called the number, but the new user doesn't seem to know me. She requested for my login number I gave her but she said she can't access my account. Up till now. I think I've been too calm with them and I am taking it up now.

The worse part of it is I lost most of my contacts which means I may not be able to clarify myself. This is the worst thing ever to happen to someone.

I've mailed them concerning the issue and I'm yet to get feedback.

Pics below:
Get a lawyer n sue them! Doesn't cost much, i've sued a bank b4, they started begging. Just a matter of getting a lawyer to write them, but ensure u have solid proof of payment n d text messages. I've used fintechs like branch n kwikcash b4 n defaulted, they never called, but increased my interest.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I work at Some Loan and it is their policy to send those messages to a loan defaulter's contact.
They employ a lot of people and just like banks or other institutions that gives a target, there are bound to be employees who tend to be very harsh on customers in a bid to get them pay up their loan.
It's unlikely you'll get your demand for messages to be sent to your contacts to notify them that your debt has been paid, I'll advise you let it go, no matter how painful it is.

Once again, I'm sorry about your experience and for others who have experienced this.

Sorry about your experience but you won't really blame this people fa. A lot of Nigerians can be dubios.

Let me not even talk about some of my customers.

Two of my colleagues borrowed from Paylater, one did not pay until after 3 years.

The second one only paid when he wanted to go collect a bigger loan from a microfinance company and they told him they won't lend him till he settles Paylater.

For people saying only 1k, multiply 1k by 50 people everyday for 30 days.

Chai this sokoloan ehn if them call u for money and u nor get mind ur own don finish

Lemme drop a story of how sokoloan almost ruined my friend and I

Last yr a close friend took a loan from sokoloan , he always pays back before due date , that's how he was given larger amounts , imagine collecting 50k to pay 56k in just two weeks just imagine

A time came he couldn't meet up , I noticed my friend has lost weight and he had no job at that time , he couldn't open up to me until they started threatening him with soldiers , luckily I had some funds with me so I cleared it up for him

As time goes I needed funds urgently for something , I have a good account history , they had my bvn in fact all my account info that's how the operate
I made a call directly to their company line and we had a long conversation with one of their staff while they were accessing my account, the finally agreed to lend me 250k
Truth be told I was waiting for the worst , and I was to pay back in the weeks and the total money I'm to pay is 285k E sbock u abi , in two weeks o

I paid the money in just 8 days , I had cash in my other account but I intentionally wanted to show them shege
The offered me 300k to pay back 335k I another two weeks
I paid back in just 6days , they were amazed

One day I got a call from one of their staff saying they have a gift for me that I should drop my address, I told them I've already dropped my address in the beginning, (wrong address) the brought me a mosquito net and two pen and three note books , I tell them say mosquito they my house ?

I asked someone to receive the gift on my behalf on that wrong address

I later requested for 500k , I always call them directly , they gave me without hesitation omo I show them shege

They started threatening me with all manner of threats that the know of , they threatened me that they'll take my pictures to the shrine and get me mad , I laughed loud on the phone
It came to a time they were trying to play calm with me knowing all their threats aren't working , till date 1 kobo Dem nor collect

I know someone will say why would I do that
But why would they be sending different sms to your contacts labelling you a criminal over little money with their large interest , they're the real criminals

It's been over 9 months they've not called me , nor texted me and me sef nor even dey Africa not to talk of naija , I've changed my bank infos long time ago

If you must take a loan , be prepared for the worse and the worse they can do is to try to ruin ur image that's all
So before u get any load ensure you delete all ur phones contacts and write them on a book , never you save a contact on ur phone that will bring u a disgrace before them go send your crush say you steal company money grin
