What do you people think about this "data" from McKinsey? Particularly the part about the top 20 cities by purchasing power?

Very cogent opinion. Foreign equities are still the best if you can afford it, their management fees hardly exceed 2-3% pa, though no market is 100% free from internal manipulations, foreign equities are still more transparent and reliable on a long term basis.

So much noise about NSE, I am yet to hear from Bloomberg and other international financial heavyweights giving NSE the accolades they are craving for. Though NSE has improved, they still have a lot of work to do internally.... SEC and CBN cannot always see or handle everything for clean up.

At last, our (dishonest) way of doing things in Nigeria will determine the future of most companies and their shares.

Apart from those big household companies in Nigeria, I hope we will still be hearing the names of these new emerging companies in 10 to 30yrs time from now..

Lazyyouth4u:
For busy risk averse people that would rather focus on their jobs and real life hustle, the money market/fixed income market is just more straightforward and can be done by anyone. Simply put your money in Tbills, bonds, etc and continue your hustle.

Unfortunately, the rates don crash so risk averse people must enter equities market to get better returns. But these returns come at the expense of one’s time and high stress levels. The manipulations at some companies and those by the speculators and big boys is enough to give man pikin heart attack. Is it worth it?

Personally, for equities (my preference is foreign equities sha), I think investing indirectly through solid mutual funds and letting the fund managers deal with all the wahala of diversification, monitoring and rebalancing is more efficient for busy folks. I will gladly pay the management fees and avoid dealing with all the wahala.

My opinion...

All our fixed options are reducing. Is there a USD mutual fund package for someone to be doing like $100 savings a month. Stanbic has but I think you have to do at $1k per transaction.
@emasoft, can you throw more light on your VANTAGE DOLLAR FUND?

@ Oga Emmanuelewumi and any other person with information, I seek a kind of clarification from you sir.

Please how reliable is United Capital? I've been operating their Fixed Income Fund and Equity fund for some months now and the service delivery has been quite commendable and very satisfactory.

However, a particular fund transfer I made (500k) has been acknowledged as received by UCAP through an automated message, but yet to reflect in my account after 1 week. I sent a mail to their Customer Care and it is currently being investigated.

Please I need to know have you had such experience with them before? Was the issue promptly resolved? What would you advise me to do?

Thank you for your time.

This was expected. I’m surprised some people believed they could guarantee 7.5% in a low yield environment.

@4tunebest above is a very good testimony. I am using them too and their services are ok.

However, one thing I discovered with Nigeria financial service providers and asset managers is that a lot of transactions done by December ending especially in Christmas week and first week of January are likely to get delayed and may need some follow up before it is where you want it. Because of that I am still keeping some some funds I would deposited to them. End of the year activities of balancing accounts and others will distract them.

If it is not done yet. You can use their whatapps number for a direct complaint. 0 8 1 six 8 2 8 two 3 9 6

Stanbic has a minimum of $20,000 entry deposit and the same amount per top-up! United Capital has a minimum entry amount of $1,000 then subsequent top-up in multiples of $500. I think UCAP(investnow) has the best YTD rate(7.5%) in the dollar-denominated mutual fund market at the moment. FBNQuest minimum initial investment is $2,500 and subsequent top-up of $500.

VDF is not so clear to me. Oga Emmasoft to the rescue. I think you need an initial deposit of $25,000 but not sure of the subsequent top-up amount required.

I pray I don't get banned for this response cheesy cool

It is low but not as low as Money Market Fund. MMF now commands below 2% across the board and it seems it will continue to go south, except there is a significant increase in Treasury bills rates in the coming year.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 12:01pm On Dec 31, 2020
Yea. Anyone who listen to Ema here would know that it is tied to SDF and reviewed 2wice a year so naturally I expected it to go lower.

I wish there was any international form of mutual funds, based for example in Switzerland and not tied to CBN and Nigerian politics, na dat one for pure pass.

Stanbic has been reviewed back to previous metrics: 1,000USD initial and then subsequent deposits of around 500USD. An email was sent to their subscribers concerning this.

Anyone with contrary info can counter.

As for your Stanbic minimum entry, I think they tried that but I doubt if they followed through with it.
