The best practice is always to wash with water and thereafter wash your hands with soap. It is best using the left hand that you are not using to eat.

It's always advised to use your left hand for that and always make sure you wash your hands with soap afterward.

You can't wash your butt with your hand and not wash your hands with soap thereafter.
