I don't even know why I'm reluctant to link my SIM card to my NIN sef.

Hopefully, I don't have any discrepancies for when I eventually do it

More questions arising o.

The name used to register my Sim is slightly different from the one I used for my NIN.
What the solution to that?

What about my friend who bought a pre-registered Sim?

Are you a crook?? Thats on a lighter note but why would you register sim A with one name then sim B with a slightly different name from the first sim.?

The app doesn't work. Is it a general thing or is it just me?

I'm in the same boat as you, and that particular one is my main sim which is tied to all my bank accounts and bvn... This government will be very mad if they just do rubbish

I downloaded the NIMC app and entered my NIN to begin only for a phone number that is not mine at all (last two digits) to be displayed. I selected the option that says I don't use the number anymore and since then I've been getting error messages.
Meanwhile, I used *346# previously and confirmed that my phone number is linked with my NIN. How did another phone number come in? Why does it have preeminence for my NIN when I tried to log into the app?
Nonsense and NIN

Do not waste your time generating questions, you won't find answers. It's obvious this NIN-NIMC policy wasn't carefully thought out by the government.

One of the latest policies is to add (or harmonise) National Identity Number to our SIM card registrations. First, they gave an unrealistic deadline but extended it to March 2021.

While this is good to curb insecurity and/or check crime and other things, the exercise is already raising more questions than answers are provided, which are:

1. What happens to Mr Ade Nwosu Hassan whose full name reflected on his NIN but whose SIM card was registered with Ade Nwosu? My neighbor is in this group of persons. He went to his network provider and he was asked to go back to NIMC to remove any name that is not in his SIM registration.

Shouldn't it it be a case where since there is no error or incomplete name of the subscriber from NIN, the network providers, who seem to be clueless as to what to do, add the full name of the subscriber to his registration (an update), since his biometrics and picture can be verified?

2. SIM cards registered in Company lines. My friend has a business where they use CUG lines so as to make cheap calls and other benefits that comes with it. He has over 30 staff and each CUG line is registered to his company and not the staff. What happens since Companies don't have NIN, let alone several NIN to register all the lines registered to it? Will those lines go dormant?

3. What happens to those whose NIN registrations has one error or another? For Example, I know someone whose name is "Adejoh Yusuf" but was mispelt as "Adejh Yusuf" You know that his NIN can't be verified as there would be discrepancies.

As at today, the Telecom companies have no clear cut information as to how to resolve some issues related to linking NIN to SIM cards yet. They keep redirecting people to NIMC, even when there may be no need. Remember that NIMC and other authorised bodies would be under immense pressure this period. And the newly created NIMC app my not resolve some issues like error correction etc. I even know someone whose NIN number on his NIN slip doesn't work but when he dials a code to get it from NIMC, another (correct) code pops up.

Thank goodness an app was launched by FG but some issues need one to be physically present at NIMC to resolve.

What is your challenge so far?

May be you don't know. But you can link your Sim to NIN even if the name doesn't matches

Its clear that they didn't reason for a pros and cons before going on with this idea. Those GSM network companies re not fools. 50% of Nigerians will get their sim blocked including me that bought my MTN sim card and registered it personally with my name, all to login to MyMTNAPP to see different name...

Does it mean that network providers won't be able to resell my line to someone else even after I've abandoned the line for several months because my NIN has been linked with my line?

Serious matters arising

In this part of the world, policies are initiated for the benefit of certain people, when those people have "chopped" the policy may be properly planned to benefit some few more people or it's discarded for being unrealistic.

Couldn't linking people's nin with bvn and phone numbers be done without all these fuss

What did u expect when the chief executive office of Nigeria has no common SSCE, the chief law interpreter is a Babalawo and the Assistant chief executive officer, who happens to be a prof of law can't protect the law that he professes.
With these set of people, don't expect intelligent ideas and policies.
No deep thinker nor those who can think outside the box for good development of the country

Most importantly what happens when someone predispose with certain sophisticated software gets a hold of ur sim which houses ur nin, bvn and other vital details and unleashes financial mayhem on the bearer? Is the above scenario remotely possible? Seeing that our financial system have lot of unresolved loop holes.

My company has the exact issue with a few lines given to senior management staff (one of them is a foreigner without BVN) . These weren't even on CUG. We were asked to get our CAC etc and submit to each network provider. Later they each came back to us claiming that they didn't know what to do for now and we should all wait and hear from the FGN.

Another issue are sims inside GPS tracking devices of which we have over 30 as we are in the logistics business. Everyone is acting dumb. We are just fed up.

Get out if you can, Nigeria is a big mess..... I have been struggling to Harmonize the data on my Driver's License with that on the NIN... It's just so frustrating. Last last the said i should submit some documents to do a date of birth correction with FRSC that may take as long as nobody knows... Nigeria has failed.
Re: Linking NIN To SIM: Matters Arising by yoosooph: 3:53pm On Jan 06, 2021
What about people like me that are no longer using the sim registered with the NIN? The app can't work for us.

There are so many unanswered questions?

Our Government only think after taken decision. They only take decision when they are directly affected. And their decision always exempt them.

What a country!!!
