Nope. The third and 4th were negative at a federal hospital o. The first 2 were done at a private lab which came out positive.

Ina lilahi ! You're really a mature man, the way you handled the situation after the discovery. I will personally take any woman I will may to Laboratory for test before I marry.

Toneyo:
Same thing happened to me. Prior to marriage. My wife claimed she was AA. I'm AS. I demanded for test result. She told me she can't find it again as it has been very long she did the test.

She claimed all her siblings are all AA. The whole thing bursted when my 3rd son fell seriously ill. He always for sick until a day, he had priapism at such young age, so I took him to the hospital.

I demanded the lab technician to conduct a genotype test and blood group test. He turned out to be SS, but same blood group with mine.

Wife was still claiming she was AA. Right there, I demanded she took a genotype test. Within minutes result was out. She is AS. She scammed me. Ever since that time my marriage has been a shamble.

She never apologized for the lie. No remorse till this day. I have been doing everything not to lose that boy.

So, many things has really happened from that day. Lots of discoveries. I was never truly loved but for the sake of I want to get married. All for her selfishness.

1,2,3, maybe 4 times might be considered being cautious.
But 5,6,7 times seems out of place to me.
We don't know her family history. We don't know if she has a sickle cell sibling.

Something made her jittery enough to keep running the test even after marriage.
That is the missing piece of information.
Probably she played away match with an AS carrier!

Didn't see that. Oh well, they should know they both contributed to it. Both parents gave the gene. Both are responsible. Even the man could actually be SS.
stop contributing rubbish you know nothing about. Must husband be SS before they have SS child? The partners contribute an S each, not two to get a SS baby
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by dalongjnr: 5:37am On Jan 31, 2021
Mistakes too many happened.
1. She maybe have lied about her genotype or pay her way to have a fake result in other to consummate the marriage.
2. Expired reagents or poor rocking of the plate may be responsible. But on 7 occasions, I doubt.
3.The child probably may have been swabbed during delivery but very rear.
4.Possible, but unlikely!
There's a very slim chance that a new mutation can occur in an egg or sperm cell - or in a very early stage embryo - that changes a specific genotype like this. The mutation wouldn't be present in the mother or father, but it would be present in a child that's conceived using the mutated egg or sperm cell, or in any embryo where the mutation occurs after conception. This is called a de novo mutation. It's hard to pin down the overall rate of de novo mutation, but we do know that it's more likely to occur when the parents are older at the time of the child's conception.
One other possibility is that one of the parents is a genetic mosaic. This can happen when a
de novo mutation occurs after a fertilized egg has already divided at least once; the person will have the mutation in some, but not all, of the cells of their body. It can also occur when two non-identical twins fuse together very early in development. If one of the parents is a mosaic, and their egg/sperm cells are produced by a genetically different part of their body to their blood cells (or whichever other cells were sampled to assess the parents' genotypes), then you might see this AA/AA/AS phenomenon. Apparently this is more common than was previously thought!

Laboratory error is causing a lot of pain and agony to many families. She is highly unfortunate on this regard. To be frank on every pregnancy the chance of her having sickler is about 25%. One sickler in the family can suck out the financial and psychological of the family dry.

I prayed she will be able to take care of her n if she is my sister I will advice her to divorce as preconception test is costly and highler unavailable.

Yes... I feel OP is just telling another story.

If love is that strong, they should av opted for adoption, and forget getting pregnant.

If this story is true, the lady played the guy big time..But, the consequence is general something she didn't think of ahead.

If they are not financially OK, I smh for them.

Most people don't do genotype testing 7 times.
If you're AA, you do maybe one confirmatory test before marriage, that's all.

Why was she running up and down doing genotype test?
It is because she knew she was AS long ago.

I don’t think it’s right to describe those VARIOUS med personnel as inexperienced.
There’s a missing piece that only the mother can reveal or explain

yes, that's why I highlighted the 4 possible scenarios above for you. even at that.
The Child should not be SS except in the cases of child swab or marital infidelity with an AS partner or my point 4, in my earlier post.

You need to hear from laboratory practitioners before you jump into conclusions and castigate an innocent person OK. My wife is a laboratory practitioner and informed me how tedious it used to be with certain AS blood sample and how it always show as AA.

Besides, I reported that even twice during antenatal in a government hospital, her results came as AA. So is it her fault?

Apologies. But since you already have the info from your wife who apparently is a lab scientist/tech, in my opinion, do you think anyone on this platform can help or explain why?
If you don’t mind, let that woman see a Consultant Haematologist ASAP. Not private o, govt teaching hosp. Theirs is the only valid report she could safely rely on.

Good day family people. Please what can you do in this case?

My neighbour's second child, 5 year old girl that used to fall sick often was just recently confirmed sickle celler much to the surprise of the parents and all of us. But that is not even the issue.

The real issue is that the parents tested to know their genotype before marriage and the father was known to be AS and the mother AA. The woman went to 5 different hospitals and laboratories, government and private, to confim her genotype before committing to marriage with the man. After their marriage and during her two antenatal in the hospital, she tested her blood each time again and her genotype was still confirmed AA. Now suddenly when her daughter was fallen sick often she requested for genotype test for the daughter and it was confirmed she was SS. That made the doctor to ask the mother to go for genotype test again and it turned out as AS.

Please how do you explain this family people and doctors in the house? What do you do to those that conducted the 7 previous tests both in government and private hospitals?

There is no way that could have scientifically happened. It is genetic.

She probably knew her status but hid it. Some women can be desperate enough to get married that they will hide their status and tell you that they are "trusting the Lord" to change it for them. I guess he didn't come through this time.

She lied about her genotype to get married. Forget about looks, drama and those innocent seeming Vibes. People can lie o , I have countless
experiences of such. Except you have incontrovertible evidences , most liars are cold faced and will never accept guilt. I have experiences

The second possibility is maybe , the baby was swapped at Birth. Opari.

The woman has not yet told us how that child turned out to be SS. I put it to you that she was always AS and she knew, but maybe desperation pushed her into lying to her husband about her genotype. How can she consistently do tests over a number of years and the result is always AA, but this one time when the child is confirmed to have sickle cell anemia, she does another test and voila, she is AS. Just one time.

She is a liar and a very terrible person. Now she has brought an innocent child to suffer

Not necessarily @ bolded she was most likely trying to be very sure she was AA ( Knowing how often these mistakes happen ) because she knows her fiancee is AS to avoid stuffs like this.

Its simple if you want to marry an AS, its common sense to confirm, confirm and reconfirm your AA status.

Let me stop you there... I'm having issues understanding why she had to do it almost 7times...
She knew wasn't AA... you don't turn out to be AA and still be looking for what's not there

Please stop castigating the innocent woman, there is still a misery behind this genotype that scientists have not yet studied. Let me tell you my own story. Before my marriage, I checked my genotype in two different places which confirmed it was AS, thank God my hubby is AA. After the marriage, during the first pregnancy,I did the test again and it remained As. Believe me after my second pregnancy I started having result of AA, which I have done the test in different places now. I work in an hospital, so I did the test both in government and private settings.

Smart girl. First thing that crossed my mind. She knew she was AS probably did prayer and fasting and one prophet told her she was now AA hence the random testing. Women can be desperate when marriage is at stake.

8 out of 10 medical practitioners in this country are incompetent frauds. I'm sure if this SS issue didn't occur, those frauds would have still told the husband that the wife is AA.

If you think the woman is colluding with the incompetent frauds to print false results, then you just proved my point yet again.
