Diego Simeone was keen to clarify his statements made during a leaked conversation he had about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

During the World Cup in Russia last summer, Simeone seemed to imply that he preferred the Portuguese forward to his compatriot in a audio on WhatsApp that found its way to the press.

"What I consider is that in a team with fewer solutions, Ronaldo is a better fit because he provides many solutions," Simeone began.

"For a team which focuses on football, Messi is much better.

"We are talking about very fine margins of how a team plays," he stated.

"Cristiano can decide a game in a different way, he doesn't need ten attacks. He scored two headers against us and we were out," theAtletico boss said.

Simeone went on to speak of the subtle differences between the two world superstars.

"Both need a team but the differences are very small.

"Lionel, in an attacking team always plays better. The other [Ronaldo] can win a game in two actions, he simplifies the situations.

"Messi is mesmerising because he plays elaborate football.

"Leo plays in a team that compliments all of his talent. He always ends up finding solutions," he concluded.

One thing I have noticed of recent is that most arguments are now mostly based on people's sentiments and not really facts available. What has Michael Jordan achieved that LeBrom James hasn't? What has Lionel Messi achieved that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't?

Going by stats which you know Messi will definitely break that assist record before Ronaldo retires . As the all time goal record Ronaldo is like 40 goals over Messi with two seasons ahead . a Player like Messi is can give you at least 30 goals a season despite his age.

The only bragging right might have over Messi is wining the Euros if Messi mistakenly wins it before he retires I don't think Ronaldo fans will have anything on him.
Messi has scored against all clubs around Europe so the argument against him moving out of Barca is stale but I'll like to see him move to Mancity to prove some people wrong .

All those ones are excuses. And did I hear you say Portugal was average. FYI Portugal got to the final of Euro 2004 in their country but lost to Greece. They had the likes of Figo, Simao, R. Carvalho Pauleta and co. Abi was Portugal not a force in the great Eusebio's time. Xavi and Iniesta are part of the reasons Ronaldo won only 2 laligas for about 10 years . Back to back Euros and World Cup those guys are play markers don't even go there. Those guys cease midfield their pass might not lead to the actual assist but they created the space.

Messi is an exceptional player. He can even play a game without scoring a goal or providing an assist and end up being the man of the match. I rate Messi highly for that cos he makes the game. However, a certain Portuguese can only be the motm when he scores a brace or a hat trick and in a game where he fails the score, he gets the worst ratings most of the time.

The sports world knows that Messi is the numero uno when it comes to football. It's a no-brainer.

The OP should know that it goes beyond number of UCL titles, as Michael Jordan's six NBA titles is also not the highest in the NBA.

Being the GOAT is about having and demonstrating that unrivalled magical ability on-field week-in week-out. The way Ronaldinho brought joy to the global audience's faces even though there were tons of strikers who outscored him. It has never been about who has the highest statistical numbers, else we'd say Bruno Fernandes is already a far better player than Paul scholes and David Beckham combined, but who has the highest influence.

As average as Messi has been generally this season, he still has the highest man of the match awards in Spain and possibly in the whole of the top five European leagues this season. When you have a player that scores, dribbles, shoots well, good at free kicks, playmakes, gives the highest number of key passes and assists and does all these consistently, he's definitely better than other one-dimensional players with no other impact but putting the ball into the net, especially through penalties.
