A friend x5 e53 engine was damaged by overheating today. Engine has refused to start. The mechanic said the head gasket maybe bad and or a warped head cylinder. Please what can he do? Change the gasket and get a new head?? Please advice as I'm skeptical about getting another tokunbo engine that one is not sure of its condition.

Replace the engine.

Replacing the burnt gasket will only provide temporary relief.

Except you plan on buy OEM and to rebuild the engine.

.

If the temporary relief is for a year, I'm okay. Most tokunbo engines may not even serve that long.

I can't say how long it will take you but I doubt it will be for that long. You will end up throwing money to the problem without actually solving it.

Why not go ahead to rebuild the engine, it is pricey though.

I have the same problem on my 2007 E60.
The thing to do is either I park, switch off the phone for 5mins and start again or I clear the fault with a scanner. The cause of the problem isn't known till now, I've replace the complete transmission due to this but the problem still persists.
I'll be glad if the solution to this problem can be shared.
Thanks

Boss you see problem like this can not be solved remotely, if you can bring it over, I can assure you I will find solution to your car problem.

Alot of damages can be done by overheating, if it has gotten to the extent of the engine not starting. It's definitely an head gasket issue, if it has been resolved, the primary problem must be solved as well.
You see engine rebuild of those kind of engine is quite complex than you think, all these ones we do in Nigeria is just assembling engine, and if it's done it's a 50:50 chance, best is to buy another engine.

Chances are that the replacement engine has been rebuilt

We finally bought a tokunbo engine and we regretted it. Engine making funny noise after installing it, then we called the seller because it is within the 1 week warranty. We returned the engine, seller checked and discovered a broken chain guide, and a cutting mark on the "camshaft" close to the vanous, not sure of the name. Well, we had to open the our own bad engine too, we resurfaced the top cylinder, change head gasket, change our timing chain guide too, water pump is still very okay, engine block is fine, but we still changed the rings of the pistons. Engine roars again. I love it this way, if it serves me for a year, I'm okay.

Gazzuzz should stop giving warranty on engines, o risky.

If engine rebuild of a 1999 m62tu engine is a problem, then our mechanic no try @ all. So it is advisable to buy a new engine because of a bad less $100 gasket

Hello BMW lovers, Pls is it advisable for a first time car buyer to get a BMW as his first car?? In terms of fuel economy, maintenance, security and price. I'm thinking of anything above year 2007!!! I do love BMW much. And is it possible to use it for Uber/Taxify

2004 BMW 318i is good for Uber!
Yes Coja can be a good UBER spec like 2004 Corrola from Toyota
speed and fuel consumption. I used Coja for 3 years, It refused to die. Sold it and purchased another one.

Why not get a mechanic to assess the car. Me I can't buy a naija used BMW unless I know the owner and the maintenance culture

I used to say avoid a BMW before, but I've modified my slogan to avoid an abused bmw. Avoid some bmws.

Wheel noise could be suspension, wheel bearing or shaft noise, or anything. Have it checked properly before parting with hard cash.

Thanks. The issue was my power steering pump failed. Changed it for 25k.

Can you share the info of the mechanic that diagnosed and fixed the problem?

I just drove the car to ladipo market. The parts seller recommended a professional mechanic. Bought the power steering pump for 25k, life oil for 6k and everything was back to normal.

It's a good car if it's been cared for properly.

Tell a good BMW mechanic to accompany you to assess the car's condition.
But I personally would advise you to get an European used BMW.

What do you think about 2006 BMW 320i for a first car owner who don't know much about BMW. Is the fuel economy plus maintainance good enough for Uber/Taxify and is there any difference between the 2006 model and the 2008 model still 320i

318i or 320i for fuel economy but wouldn't advice for e-hailing cos the only thing you change frequently in E90 is suspension parts unless you don't care and ready to be deaf to those squeaky sounds

thank you.

consultation with another BMW specialist this morning, was that the top cylinder be check for possible crack, and if discover there is any crack, we should just change the engine, that repair of any kind will not last.

This over heating started lik 3 wks ago, water reservoir, water pump, thermostat etc were all replace, and engine work fine until Wednesday night when the problem started again.
