Please is it a problem at the embassy if you apply for different programs, CS and Bio in different schools? Pls What do you people say about the following combination of schools and programs.

Thanks for your reply sir... God bless you

There are no "professionals" here. Just people that have gone through the same journey you are about to embark on. I would suggest the following:

1. "Biological sciences" doesn't say much of anything. You need to figure out exactly what program you are interested in.
2. Then find a couple of schools that match your interests - i.e. whether they offer your major, Masters or PhD program, research interests, entry qualifications, tuition costs and cost of living.
3. Narrow down to 3-5 schools.
4. Start gathering application materials (find out if you need to take standardized tests).
5. Apply - strongly suggest you identify a potential mentor. You'll need it at your visa interview at least.

Asking folks to do the work for you is not going to help you. No one would anyway. Best of luck.

Location: Lagos

Me: good morning
Vo:good morning and how are you
Me:fine
Vo:what type of visa are you applying for
Me:f2 dependent visa
( Faced difficulties in accessing document online. He keep on checking. Took him a while.)
Vo: Your only child is with her mother in US?
Me: Yes, I want to go and visit them and afterwards return back to resume my job and business here in Nigeria.
Vo:have you traved before
Me:No I haven't had reason to however I need to go see my wife and daughter then return back to resume my job and business here in nigeria.
Vo:sorry, you are not qualified. try some other time

Please, I'll like to know what went wrong, advice on how to go about it the next time and how soon to try again.

I'm a masters student. On my I-20, my start date is Jan2019 to December 2022. I'm also on full assistantship .
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Abone2: 3:27pm On Feb 16, 2021
Sorry about the denial. The VO probably does not trust that he will return to the country. He is the home tie you have, and with him coming over too, VO thinks there's no sufficient home time.
What kinda job does he do?
how long has he been doing the job?
how long did he fill on the ds160 as intended duration of stay?
who was suppose to sponsor his trip?

Lot of things VO may have seen in the ds160 that won't make him/her ask many questions during interview. Answers to these questions may help guide on way forward.

I think one thing we also have to acknowledge here on NL is that some VOs have a pre-concieved notion when they see applicants and they don't want to bother themselves asking questions and this is not about the applicant's DS-160. If the V.O wants to actually know why he's travelling, the next thing should be to ask him the type of work he does or if he has a strong business here but none of that was asked. I wish him luck and a better V.O in his next interview.

Works in a bank for 10 years now.
He intended to come over for a month. That"s what he filled in the ds160.

How can we show home ties for him. He went with documents showing proof of Job and even lands. But couldn't even present it. We are just looking for what to do better next time.

sorry about it once again. From these answers, to the best of my knowledge, his job should prove home tie. (I'm guessing he was denied based on 214b btw. The form given to him will usually detail the exact reason). Maybe he was just unlucky to meet a VO who's determined. Gurus in the house can help look further into the situation.
Better luck next time

Proving home ties might not be easy for him sha. On the DS form he needs to clearly explain his job or business in Naija, that should help. Also with Covid, coming to visit you right now is a non-essential travel. Maybe plan towards late summer. Cheers.

Good evening Nairalanders, so I got this GA idea recently and searched on here (sure information bank) and boom, it’s been going on for God knows when.
First off, I have HND (3.05/4.00) and this guy that wants to help me is already in US as a GA and said he will charge me $780 for everything. Lol, while I don’t have that much amount, Omo I’m very skeptical because a lot of questions I asked weren’t cleared well. I know it’s 10 schools in 100 that accept straight masters from HND holders. Also, I writing a professional exam like GRE, TOFEL etal are one the main requirement. He said he will run it, i don't know how people of God. So i have come to seek knowledge from the elders. Is it possible i apply straight masters with hnd? While there are English test waivers, arr there really ways you can bypass this? I no want illegal stuff o.

Kindly advice pleace

You can apply with your HND. English test can be waived, but depends on the school you pick. You can do your application by yourself if you can go through the process.

A month visit to the US? The current US embassy I know doesn't frowns when you say you're visiting for that long. Although depends on the VO, maximum of 3 weeks is enough.

Hey guys

Quick question!

I’m currently in the states. I entered 2 months ago with a B1/B2 visa for a conference.

I was stamped in 6 months at the POE.

Now I wanna study, but the school I went to here in Illinois told me that I cannot attend the graduate program (MBA) I intend to study with a B1/B2 visa, that I need an F1.

So guys, can I apply for an F1 visa here in the states, or I will have to return to Nigeria and apply for it.

Basically, starting all over undecided

Or can anyone recommend me any school in the states that would allow me do my masters in business administration with my B1/B2 visa. I’m currently in Chicago, but I don’t mind relocating to another state, so far a school there will accept me.

If he's going on an F2 visa, that means he intends to be dependent on you until the expiration of your program. Your assistantship alone is unlikely to be able to support you, your husband, and your child. It's hard to convince a VO that you intend to come back to maintain your businesses when you're applying for an F2 visa rather than a temporary B2 visa, which would be the logical visa to apply for if all you intended was a visit.

Is it important to contact the grad coordinator or advisor or a professor in your program before you apply to grad school? If you apply without contacting them first, does that mean you won't get admitted or it simply means you won't get funding?
