But is it only at the verge of every new year that prophecies are revealed to our pastors? |
Surprises are happening every year around the globe. It's a general thing. I think it's better to prophesy this way than to make a blunder. |
So much hype for 2017. Everytime we are entering a new year people get excited about it and make new year's resolutions about things they intend to attain, sins they intend to stop committing, and what have you. However, one key thing that is almost always ignored or put aside is how we intend to improve our security and the security of our friends and families. As we kickstart 2017, I want you to know that crimes have not reduced from how they were in 2016, and the economy hasn't improved from what it was in 2016. In fact, all other vices remain the same, if they haven't worsened. Since kidnappings, armed robbery, car snatching and theft would be seen in 2017, you must do the following to stay secure: 1. Watch Over Your Shoulders This entails you been security conscious at all times. It always keeps you on your toes and act swiftly when there is a danger. It will always help you to detect if you have a strange individual in your neighborhood that has a mission that might be precarious to the community. 2. Avoid Known Criminals Flashpoints It's pretty much easier for criminals to attack and win in their territory. Don't give them that opportunity. If you are going to be robbed, at least, don't make it a cheap victory for the robbers. So I advise you steer clear of such Flashpoint for your safety. 3. Always Keep Your Doors Locked Whether you are at home or not, ensure that doors that grant accesshood into your house are locked. Know those on the other before you open. This will enable you to filter friends from foe. It will help you stay safe from folks of the underworld. 4. Security Education Education is key. Security education is a master key. Educating your entire household on how to stay secured is so paramount it can't be overemphasized. If your household can police itself, you will need little or nothing from conventional policing. 5. Lock Your Car And Keep Attractive Things Away Always ensure that you secure your car with a reasonable vehicle security. The purpose of security is not only to prevent your car from being stolen, but to also delay the thief or discourage them. Keep attractive items away from dashboard, seats or any other visible areas in the car. Doing so will give intending stealer nothing to captivate them. 6. Don't Trust Easily Trusting people easily in our present world is not only unadvisable, but very perilous to you. Giving lifts to unknown individuals in your car, especially on the highway could jeopardize your safety. Follow your instincts, as there are those that are might be helpful to you. 7. Report To Police If You Suspect Anything Though our police is not as effective as what we see in developed countries, they are still the laws enforcing agency in the country. If you suspect anything or anyone that could hurt you, don't hesitate to report to the police or any other security agencies nearby. 8. Don't Be Predictable Alternating your routes and avoiding routine will help you stay safe. This will make it difficult for those tracking you for one abysmal reason or the other, since they won't know where you are going to be at any point in time. 9. Keep Your Itinerary To Yourself Apart from family members, who could sometimes be sellouts themselves, it is highly imperative to keep certain secrets to yourself. Kidnappers could take advantage of your pronouncements to have you abducted. You might say you are not that rich to be kidnapped. Let me tell you, there are different strata of kidnappers. Some kidnap for as low as fifty thousand naira. I hope this writeup has been helpful! Welcome to 2017! https://mysecurityfirst..com.ng/2016/12/your-security-in-2017.html?m=1 |
limeta:Did you hear what he said? It was the retired General's opinion. That General is out of Service and therefore cannot make any strong statement on operations of the ministry. When we hear good tidings, we should be optimistic, rather than be sentimental about it. We all know what critical comments Fani Kayode made about GEJ before he was brought into the government. If this came from a serious-minded individual, we should be taking it seriously, but this mouthy dude is a joker. |

That is the police college GEJ visited years back and contracts were given for its renovation. It's still looking ramshackle, evincing to us that no renovation was done. Wahala dey oo! |

Libyan plane hijack ends peacefully in Malta Aircraft with 118 people on board was hijacked by men claiming to have hand grenades who threatened to blow it up. Two hijackers surrender to the military on the runway at Malta Airport on Friday [Darrin Zammit-Lupi/Reuters] Two hijackers of a Libyan aircraft with 118 people on board surrendered to authorities on the island of Malta hours after claiming to have hand grenades and threatening to blow the plane up unless their demands were met. Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Twitter that all passengers and crew had been safely released by Friday evening. The hijackers, Muscat said, had "surrendered" and been "searched and taken in custody". The prime minister said the hijackers had one pistol and one hand grenade on them, and a second handgun was later found on the plane. In a later statement, the government said initial forensic investigations showed that the weapons used by the hijackers were identical "replica" weapons - imitation weapons that may not actually fire but are difficult to distinguish visually from real guns. One of the hijackers told the flight crew of the Afriqiyah Airways plane that he was "pro-Gaddafi". Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed in an uprising in 2011, and the country has been racked by factional violence since. Libya passenger jet hijacked, diverted to Malta Libyan Foreign Minister Taher Siala confirmed the two hijackers were supporters of the slain dictator Gaddafi and had requested political asylum in Malta. Siala, from Libya's internationally backed Government of National Accord, said the hijackers also said they want to set up a pro-Gaddafi political party. Hours after landing, people could be seen disembarking from the aircraft. Tim Diacono, a journalist from Malta Today, told Al Jazeera the hijackers had grenades and "threatened to blow the plane up". Libya on brink of collapse four years since revolution The last major hijacking on the tiny Mediterranean island of Malta was in 1985, when Palestinians took over an Egyptair plane. Egyptian commandos stormed the aircraft and dozens of people were killed. Security personnel took up positions a few hundred metres from the plane as it sat on the tarmac on Friday. Malta-based journalist Karl Stagno-Navarra said one of the hijackers had appeared at the door of the plane waving a large green flag - similar to the old Libyan flag under Gaddafi's rule. After a few moments he put the flag down and returned inside. "This is not an issue of international terrorism, this is an issue of internal feud that is still ongoing in Libya," Stagno-Navarra said. The aircraft had been flying from Sebha in southwest Libya to Tripoli for state-owned Afriqiyah Airways, a route that would usually take about two hours. The Afriqiyah Airways plane was diverted towards Malta, but turned back as far as Libyan airspace before changing course again and flying to the Mediterranean island, an airline official said. UN launches new round of Libya peace talks. Malta is about 500km north of the Libyan coast. Prime Minister Muscat also tweeted that the passengers on board the plane included 82 men, 28 women and one infant. The pilot of the Afriqiyah Airways plane told the control tower the aircraft had been hijacked, a senior security official at the airport said. "The pilot reported to the control tower in Tripoli that they were being hijacked, then they lost communication with him," the official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. "The pilot tried very hard to have them land at the correct destination but they refused." Reports said the two hijackers were in their mid-20s and were from the Tebu, an ethnic group present in southern Libya from where the plane departed. One of the hijackers told the flight crew of the Afriqiyah Airways plane that he was "pro-Gaddafi" and he was willing to let all 111 passengers leave the Airbus A320 - but not its seven crew - if he is given what he asks for, the Times of Malta reported. Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed in an uprising in 2011, and the country has been racked by factional violence since. It was unclear what the demands were. Hours People could be seen disembarking from the aircraft. Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted at 1340GMT that 109 people had been released, including members of the flight crew. Tim Diacono, a journalist from Malta Today, told Al Jazeera the hijackers had grenades and "threatened to blow the plane up". "We don't know what the demands are, but the negotiations are under way," Diacono said. "There are people leaving the airplane as we speak, so it looks like it is being resolved peacefully, but it's still too early to tell." The last major hijacking on the tiny Mediterranean island of Malta was in 1985, when Palestinians took over an Egyptair plane. Egyptian commandos stormed the aircraft and dozens of people were killed. All passengers aboard the plane were in good health, an unnamed official at the Libyan foreign ministry told the state news agency LANA. The prime minister's office confirmed a negotiating team was at Malta International Airport. Security personnel took up positions a few hundred metres from the plane as it sat on the tarmac. "According to radar information the plane was going to Malta, then it flew back as far as Tripoli airspace, then it turned back towards Malta again," said Farouk al-Wifati, the head of the Afriqiyah Airways office in Tripoli's Mitiga airport, where the flight was due to land. Malta is about 500km north of the Libyan coast. Prime Minister Muscat also tweeted the passengers on board the plane included 82 men, 28 women and one infant. Michel Cousins is the editor-in-chief of the Libya Herald based in Tunis, Tunisia. He told Al Jazeera he believes the hijack is an attempt to get asylum in Malta - a member of the European Union. "It's not easy getting out of Libya these days. Getting into Europe is not easy, they need visas and those aren't being given out any more. I suspect this is about people wanting to get out of Libya," said Cousins. Source: Aljazeera News Agencies https://mysecurityfirst..com.ng/2016/12/libya-passenger-aircraft-hijacked.html?m=1 |
Suspect in Berlin Christmas market lorry attack killed in shootout in a Milan suburb, Italian minister says. Anis Amri, the main suspect in the Berlin Christmas market lorry attack , has been killed in a shootout in a suburb of the northern Italian city of Milan, the Italian authorities said. Interior minister Marco Minniti told a news conference in Rome that Amri had been fatally shot after firing at police who had stopped his car for a routine identity check around 3am (02:00 GMT). Identity checks had established "without a shadow of doubt" that the dead man was Amri, the minister said. The shootout took place in Milan's Sesto San Giovanni neighbourhood. Minniti added that the suspect, a 24-year-old Tunisian, pulled out a gun from his backpack after being asked to show his identity papers. A police officer was injured in the shootout. The minister gave very few details of the police operation, saying investigations were still in progress. He added that there could be "future developments". A Europe-wide search for Amri was launched and he was described by authorities as 'violent and armed' [Reuters] ISIL has claimed responsibility for Monday's attack, in which the lorry mowed through a crowd of people and bulldozed wooden huts selling Christmas gifts and snacks beside a famous church in west Berlin. ISIL on Friday said in a statement on its Amaq website that the "Berlin attacker ... was killed in an exchange of gunfire". One of the 12 killed in Berlin was the Polish driver from whom the lorry had been hijacked. His body, stabbed and shot, was found in the cab. Germany had launched a Europe-wide manhunt for Amri, who was described as "violent and armed". But it emerged that he was already under investigation. The interior minister of Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) state, Ralf Jaeger, said counterterrorism officials had exchanged information about Amri, most recently in November, and a probe had been launched suspecting he was preparing "a serious act of violence against the state". Berlin prosecutors said Amri had been suspected of planning a burglary to raise cash to buy automatic weapons, "possibly to carry out an attack". Germany said it was "relieved" by the news of Amri's shooting and thanked Rome. "There are growing signs that this is actually the person [wanted in the attack]. Should this be proved true, the ministry is relieved that this person no longer poses a danger," interior ministry spokesman Tobias Plate told reporters. Foreign ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Berlin was "grateful to the Italian authorities for the very close cooperation based on trust". Just as every society is unique, Nigeria's uniqueness is not really unusual, because I know that some of the events that unfold in Nigeria prior to, during and after festive periods are akin to those that happen elsewhere. Apart from increased migration, accidents, expenditures, and the likes, there is also increase in criminal activities, because folks of the underworld seize the opportunity to rob, kidnap or swindle unsuspecting people of their hard-earned valuable. There are also those who kill for ritual purposes. These practices have been with us for some time. Now (2016) that things are even harder due to the recession, we should expect a rise in them. Having mentioned all these, I present to you some tips to keep you safe within this period and beyond! 1. Stop The Show Off Criminals are looking for rewards for their criminalities, and their rewards usually come from those that have substances. If you show off, be ready to be visited. I advise you maintain a normal lifestyle devoid of pride and flaunting. It pays! 2. Don't Keep Late Nights Because most crimes take place in the dark and where there is less crowd, late nights provide this suitable cover for these evil men to operate. Except it's unavoidable, don't stay late into the night. If it warrants you staying late, try to have a partner with you. 3. Always Look Over Your Shoulder This simply implies being security conscious. As move along the road or drive, be aware of your environment, turning back at intervals to know if you're being trailed or stalked. Doing this could cause anyone trailing you to deviate. Criminals always discouraged if they discover you are security conscious. 4. Keep Your Valuables Beyond Their Reach One of the reasons people are attacked is because of their properties. You get attacked because the attacker wants your property. What do you do? Hide them or don't make them conspicuous. Don't let anyone attack you for the attractiveness of your stuff! 5. Don't Be Predictable If your routes and whereabouts are easily known, you become prone to attacks or kidnap. Don't disclose your itinerary to those who do not need to know. 6. Keep Your Doors Locked Whether you are in the house or not, always keep your doors locked. Ensure you know the person on the other side of the door before you open. This will help you not to grant access to unwelcomed individuals into your home. 7. Minimize Going To Banks Ever since the ATM became popular in Nigeria, armed robbery shifted from individuals to banks, even though individual robberies are still being experienced. If you cannot avoid going to banks within this period, don't go those that are secluded, because they are easily attacked by armed bandits! Plus, some armed robbers pick and trail their victims from banks. 8. Avoid Criminals' Flashpoints If an enemy brings fight to your domain, you are likely to trounce them, but if you tread in their vicinity, you should expect them to do as they wish. At this time that crimes are high, as much as possible, do not have anything to do with criminals' strongholds. 9. Don't Look Vulnerable Criminals would always look for women and weaklings, because they would carry out their trade without a fight. Don't look fragile weak all the time. If the bad guys see you this way, you'll become their prey. 10. Keep Friends And Family In The Know If you are going to be out of the house or town, let family and trusted friends be in the know of where you would be. This would give them an idea of where to start looking in case of emergency. For more security tips, visit mysecurityfirst..com.ng I hope this write up has been helpful! Thank you! |
