Allaji really knows how to compete in business. In 2024 when his refinery started operating there was a number of people who announced that they were going to build refineries. There were at least 2 major ones in the South West. Alhaji then said he has plans to double the capacity of his. Now clearly it is easier for him to double his capacity than for a new refinery to be built at a fresh location. Alhaji already has a lot of infrastructure in place, he has the experience and can raise capital easier. Since Alhaji's doubling announcement I haven't heard anymore from those new refinery people.

In fact, it remains to be seen if NNPC will go ahead with the rehabilitation of the government refineries after the election. They are yet to go beyond signing an MOU, whereas Alhaji has already signed several contracts for his refinery expansion and is raising capital.
