A 40-year-old man, Micheal Nna, is currently in a quagmire. While he hopes for the better, he lamented that his life has temporarily been ruined by a health challenge, which has not only made living a bizarre and excruciating experience but also has robbed him of the ability of fathering a child. He added that he could not continue with his job as a shoe repairer, which had been his means of livelihood.

He is sad that no lady is interested in having any relationship with him as a result of swelling of his scrotum, which has prevented him from performing any conjugal role.

According to a histology report from National Hospital, Abuja, dated April 27, 2018, Nna suffers from scrotal sac swelling.

According to Dr. A.N. Ado Wanka and Dr. F. G. Olah, both resident doctors at the hospital and Dr. Paul G. Jibrin, a consultant histologist, the problem has lasted for seven years.

The report from the doctors stated that “Patient with seven years history of progressive increase of scrotal sac swelling. Surgery was done three years ago on the same side at peripheral hospital. Presently, swelling is massive, located in the middle. Histological sections show a fibro-osseous lesion composed predominantly of fibrous within which are fragments of mature bony tissue. The fibrous tissue is cellular in some areas and acellular and hyalinsed in other areas.”

A social worker with Lifeline Mission (a non-governmental organisation), Mrs. Blessing Godwin, said the patient had been operated in two different hospitals in Abia State without any recovery.

She lamented that some people were rather taunting him.

She said the NGO had spent a lot of money to foot the medical bills of the patient, adding that as a result of financial constraint, the organisation therefore was pleading with the federal and state governments, as well as donor agencies, organisations and individuals to assist the patient to raise N2m for the operation, post operation management and rehabilitation.

She said, “He noticed that the place started swelling up with pains and his manhood is different from how it used to be. We took him to the hospital; they said it was the enlargement of scrotum sack. We have gone to many hospitals in Abia State. Even now, he eats more than what he is supposed to eat as he feels hungry faster than normal. He has done the first and second operations. We did the first operation in Abia State and we thought that it had gone. But before a year and six months, it started developing again. We went to another hospital in the same state, yet the problem did not get solved. He should be going for the third one if we are able to raise money for it. We plead with the federal and state governments as well as organisations and individuals to help him raise N2m for the third operation and management. He really needs help so that he could go to another hospital in Nigeria.

“He is not married and he has no children. He is a cobbler. There is nobody to help him. People rather use harsh words on him and make him angry.”

A hairdresser, Folashade Odubayo, is cooling her heels in the police custody after she was arrested for throwing her two-year-old son, Rilwan Asore, into a well in Ajegunle, Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The boy was recovered dead from the well after some residents of the community, who saw his body floating around 8am on Monday, reported the incident to the police at the Owode Onirin Division.

Odubayo, who fled the scene, was reportedly tracked down on Wednesday at her residence in Iketu, a neighbouring community.

The suspect is an indigene of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and her three children, including Rilwan, are fathered by three different men.

While the father of the deceased child, Olalekan Asore, claimed Rilwan was killed, the suspect said the kid died at her boyfriend’s residence in Ajegunle during a visit.


Odubayo, a 30-year-old hairdresser, told Saturday PUNCH that she threw the corpse into the well out of confusion. She said Rilwan had a hole in the heart which made him to gasp for breath occasionally.

She claimed that the complication recurred around 11pm on Monday while she was with the kid at her boyfriend’s residence in Ajegunle.


She said, “I gave birth to him on the road on my way to a hospital. He started gasping while she was six months old and I took him to Ikorodu General Hospital. I was told that he had a hole in the heart and that I would need about N1.5m to carry out a surgery on him in India.

“I was calling his father and telling him about our child’s case for one year, but he did not show up. I even told his sister about it.

“On July 30, I went to visit my boyfriend, Ola, and took Rilwan along with me. While I was waiting for Ola to come back from work, he started gasping again. I held him to my chest, but he did not survive it. I didn’t know what to do. I was confused. I threw his corpse inside the well because I didn’t know what to tell his father.

“I have two other children – a boy and a girl. I cannot kill my own child. Why should I kill him?”

But Rilwan’s father, Olalekan, stated that his estranged lover never told him that their son was suffering from a heart-related ailment, claiming that the boy was killed.

The 32-year-old, who said he always gave Odubayo money for Rilwan’s upkeep, explained that his sister also assisted whenever he did not have money for his upkeep.

While lamenting that he regretted his relationship with the suspect, the technician said he never knew she had borne two children until she became pregnant for him.

He said, “I am a technician. I usually work at Abeokuta, Ogun State and it can take me weeks before I return to Lagos. Anytime I come back, I always give her money to take care of our child.

“She called me last week and asked where I was. I told her I was at Abeokuta and promised to see her when I came back. On Wednesday morning, I went to her house, but I did not meet her. I was leaving when her mother called me back.

“She directed me to her son, Taiye, who told me my son had died and had been buried in Ikorodu. I was shocked and wondered what could have happened to him.

“Meanwhile, there was a time the man (Taiye) confronted me for not coming to visit my son. He said if my son died, he would throw his body away. My son was killed. Why didn’t they allow me or my sister to see his corpse before he was buried?”

Olalekan stated that Folashade used to call him that Rilwan was admitted to a hospital, but said he would not meet her and the boy on getting to the hospital.

“If I called her on getting to the hospital, she would say my son had just been discharged. I would go home to check on the boy, but I would not see any sign of sickness in him. She forced me to pay N10,000 for the treatment. At times, she would collect N15,000 from me. She did that often,” he added.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said the suspect had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigation.

He said, “Around 8am on Monday, a resident of Omowale Street, Ajegunle, reported that he saw the corpse of a two-year-old child later identified as Rilwan Asore inside a well in the above address.

“The scene was promptly visited by detectives. The corpse was removed and taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The mother of the deceased has been arrested. On interrogation, she confessed that she threw the baby into the well.

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a pastor in the Assemblies of God Church in Owerri, Chukwuma Okezuo, for allegedly giving prophecies against the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, during a church service.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who paraded the cleric before newsmen on Tuesday, accused him of prophesying during last Sunday’s church service in the Urratta area of Owerri.

The pastor was alleged to have said in his prophecy that the governor was recruiting young boys in the state with the sole aim of kidnapping children between zero and 10 years for ritual purposes.

The police spokesperson said the pastor prophesied that Governor Okorocha was allegedly engaging in the ritual exercises towards the 2019 governorship election in the state.


He added that the “false prophecy” was capable of causing rancour and panic in the state.

“I parade before you one acclaimed pastor, Chukwuma Okezuo, of Assemblies of God Church. He was arrested during a church service last Sunday at Owaelu Urratta over false prophecies against the person of the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.


“The suspect, while on the pulpit, made false prophecies against the governor that he was recruiting young boys to be kidnapping children between zero and 10 years for ritual purposes. He falsely prophesied that the governor was engaging in the ritual purposes with the sole aim of winning the 2019 governorship election and therefore asked the congregation to pray.

“This false prophecy, by this acclaimed pastor, is very malicious and capable of causing rancour, panic, anxiety and disintegrating the state. The Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Mr Dasuki Galandanchi, will not watch the people jeopardise the peace of the state.

“Religious leaders should be mindful of the things they say. We will charge the suspect to court for legal action,” he said.

In an interview with Southern City News, the 40-year-old pastor, who hails from the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, said what the police accused him of was untrue.

He said that he only asked the congregation to pray against untimely death and spiritual manipulations without mentioning the name of anybody including that of the governor.

The Lagos Zonal office of EFCC on Friday, June 29, 2018, arraigned the duo of Clement Faboyede, Chairman, Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Modupe Adetokunbo, a former Director-General, Goodluck Jonathan/ Namadi Sambo 2015 Presidential Election Campaign in Ondo, before Justice Saliu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N500 million (Five Hundred Million Naira).

One of the counts reads: “ That you, Clement Faboyede, Modupe Adetokunbo and others at large, on or about the 27th day of March, 2015 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired amongst yourselves to accept cash payment of the sum of N500,000,000(Five Hundred Million Naira only), which exceeded N5,000,000(Five Million Naira) without going through a financial institution contrary to section 18 and punishable under section 16(2) of the Money Laundering (prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No.1 of 2012)”‎.

The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them. In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, E.E. Iheanacho, asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendants in prison custody. However, counsel to the defendants made an oral application for bail on behalf of the defendants.

After listening to the counsels, Justice Saidu directed the defence counsel to make a formal application for the bail of the defendants. The Judge also ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison custody.
