So I was having a discussion with my friends yesterday evening. We were actually coming back from work and with the skimpy gown I was wearing; my cleavage was showing a little bit. Not that it was intentional though.

One of my friends was like, “Ann, must you always show off your boobs?” The question actually got me laughing out my ribs and I went all defensive. “No now, I didn’t know my boobs were showing”, I replied while trying to adjust my dress.
“Abeg, allow her to show off her asset jaree”, one of them said and everyone rolled with laughter. She continued, “I swear, if I had breast eeh, I just pity guys. Seriously I pity them”. Okay, the girl in question is really skinny with a flat chest and a flat backside. Let’s just say she is like the letter “I”.

“Oh well, that’s why God didn’t bother giving you boobs now. He knows you will misuse the gift”, another girl chipped in and again we laughed.

When the laughter died down, I actually kept thinking about what the last girl said. I mean, God, the supreme being that knows the end from the beginning does not bless us with any gift if he knows we will end up being assholes. Sometimes I imagine that I was late on the last day of creation when God was busy giving out ass to every lady. Maybe we were on a queue and when it finally got to my turn, God paused and looked at me very well then shaked his head and told me to go.

I imagine him saying something like, “Dear creature, it’s not wise to give you this ass, you will misuse it” and I would have shrugged and walked away because well, I was obviously too innocent to understand the importance of having an ass.

But thinking about it now, if God made the mistake of giving me an ass, mehn, I pity guys because many hearts would be broken. I would have been so bitchy that I would have no friends. My motto would have been, “My ass, my everything”. Like, I would have been that stupid. If I had an ass, I mean the one that makes a lady have this hourglass shape, I can’t imagine myself sitting down in a place for long.

I would go for events dressed in my high waist jean and crop top. Heck, I can even go to church dressed like that and when anyone tries to give me that judgmental look, I’d simply tell them that I am only showcasing the handiwork of God. I mean the ass is real and it was singlehandedly given to me by God so why would you tell me to conceal it?

I know I can twerk real good, now imagine I had a good ass for it. I’d probably have a social media handle created for my ass and each morning I wake up, I’d make a video of myself twerking then post it on all the social media handles. In fact, I would be the second “Janemena”.

Sometimes when I see ladies that are fully endowed but still humble, I wonder how they do it. Well, las las, this our God is not stupid sha. He knows the beginning from the end. He knows us better than we know ourselves and he blesses us with gifts that he knows we can handle.

While I was in Law school, there was this guy asking one of my friends out. Dude was really cute with beards to die for. And because he know how cute he was, he kept parading the whole school asking different girls out.

Dude just liked feeling himself but the only problem he had was that he was really close to the ground. I remember one of my friends saying something like, “If this guy was tall eeh, he would have been a chronic playboy”. And that’s true. Perhaps that’s why God didn’t bother giving him a cool height because he knew this dude would actually end up misusing it.

Like I said, God blesses us with gifts that we can handle. For those of us still hustling, sometimes I think God deliberately allows us to hustle real hard not because he can’t bless us with the riches we crave for but because he knows we wouldn’t use it very well when it comes.

So, he let’s us hustle, let’s us climb the ladder of success slowly so that by the time we get to the top, we would have learnt how to appreciate the riches and success handed down to us.

A lot of times, I have had friends chat me up and tell me stuffs like, “Ann, you inspire me a lot with the way you are chasing your dreams”. “I look at you going after what you love, and I am inspired to do same”. I read these messages and smile. Sure it makes me feel good. I mean, the fact that you are a source of inspiration to many is enough to keep one going right?

Most people see my posts on social media. I am all happy and excited going after my dreams; shooting short films, attending film festivals; taking master classes and shits like that. It can actually be fun chasing your dreams but mehn, to be honest, “Goals and dreams are hard and accomplishing them is a very exhausting journey”. Sometimes it is not as if you are not trying but it’s just one inch at a time. I go on Instagram and I see young filmmakers like me doing stuffs; working with top people in the movie industry; gaining a lot of recognition for their work, while someone somewhere is still pricing me 5k to write a script and even claiming right on it because I am upcoming. Kai! This life is not fair, I swear.

Like, there are days I feel so discouraged. There are days I stare at myself in the mirror and wonder if I am making the right choice, ditching my wig and gown for a script and camera. There are days my head is filled with a lot of “What ifs”. But well, nobody ever said that the ride was going to be an easy one.

On the dream chasing journey, there are times when you will feel as though you are still way back there at the start and everyone is passing you by. Some days you feel so discouraged that you want to cry.

Go ahead and cry. Yes, you read that right. Cry but don’t sit back; rather dry your eyes. Wash your face and keep on going. This is not an easy ride sweetheart. Always remember that.

Don’t tell me you are tired. Don’t tell me you want to give up on that dream because it is exhausting chasing it. Don’t tell me you don’t have it in you to want something more for your life. None of us is getting out of the world alive so what is that thing holding you back from living the life you always dreamed of?

On days when you feel like giving up, please reach down inside yourself and remember the reason you started this. Find the will to keep going because if you don’t, oh well, you might spend the rest of your life battling with regrets. And the only thing worse than giving up is wishing that you didn’t.

Errmm..as I am writing this, I am also motivating myself. I mean, it’s not as if I have achieved much. I am still young and trying to get on my feet but I think it would be selfish of me to go through this journey without bringing some people along with me. The more I inspire and motivate you to make conscious effort to follow your dreams, the more I feel motivated to keep pushing.

So dear dream chaser, as we go through this journey together, can you please do me these little favours;

When it comes to your dreams, no is not an answer. The word no is not an excuse to quit rather let it remind you to slow down a bit and reevaluate where you are or probably take an alternative route. If you can’t get through the front door, try the window. But just make sure you get in.

Whatever dream you have, whether big or small, you have to decide to pursue them no matter how ridiculous and stupid people find it as long as it makes you happy and you are not hurting anyone. It is your dream and you are allowed to chase them.

If you have given up or you are yet to start, can you please start today, like this very minute? Promise me you will reach for that big stuff. Stop trying to play safe. It’s not as if we are leaving this earth alive sef, so what’s the big deal? Live life to its fullest jaree. Remember, there is a huge different between living and merely existing.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has advised Christians ahead of next Saturday’s presidential election.

Wike called on Christians to troop out and vote because their votes will make the difference.

The Governor spoke during a special combined Sunday service, at the Deeper Life Camp Ground, Rumuodara, Port Harcourt on Sunday being 10th February 2019.

Wike said Nigerian Christians can no longer stand aloof while the country slides into destruction.

Wike said, “You must vote during the forthcoming elections; If you don’t vote and a bad leader emerges, you are part of those who brought that bad leadership. Your vote can make the difference. So, go ahead and vote, to effect a positive change.”

He further called on the church not to allow the children of God to be surrounded “by those who should not be in charge of leadership of the country.”

Wike said all efforts of Christians to ensure the country makes progress would be crowned when they vote for their preferred choice.

Wike added, “Pray for this state; pray against those plotting electoral violence. Pray for the state to have peaceful and credible polls. Those plotting evil shall be disappointed.

“None of my supporters should engage in political violence on my behalf. Nobody should use violence to support me.”

The governor said security agencies plotting bloodshed in the state would be consumed by their plot, while Rivers would emerge victorious.
