Do I blame them up north? I blame southern Nigeria for our corwardice. We dont have strong politicians anymore. They are all cowards. This mass wedding is one way. What if I tell u the other ways?
Take for instance, mass wedding for adulst who cant afford wedding, then they are given 100k to start business. Most will remain poor, give birth in poverty and fail in raising the kids. The kids turn bandits and terorists tomorrow, govt budget heavy on security to fight these kids, people pay ransom to free their loved ones, in all of these, tax payers money keep going to them, state resources keep going to them. So, what has stopped southern Nigerians from seeing this?
There are many other areas including NYSC, education cathment area, etc. Southern Nigerians remit a lot of money from abroad working hard, u rarely will find northerners abroad breaking records in aviation, engineeering, education, tech, science, etc. No, u cant, even in Nigeria, u rarely will find them. Practically almost all the tech startups that are big today are founded by southerners. So, why cant these guys up north compete in a merit driven, less government influenced area?
U think they dont know what they are doing? The Mass wedding is a bait for more population, especially, poor population which is easier to control and help their rulers remain in power and profit from state resources. A state, Kebi just offered loan for religious trip, billions of naira. What does Kebi do to earn money?
U see, if we dont end the act of FG sharing money, so that states can go and hustle and feed them selves, this rubbish wont stop. If a state hustled to make money from her state, she wont waste 1.5billion to fund mass wedding. She wont waste 3.5billion for religious trip. When u check almost all state indexes for growth, all the bottom states are from the north. These guys have ruled this country more than any one else. Infact, the south east was leveled down during war, systematically short-changed after losing the war, yet the region has surpassed a region that has produced 90% of our rulers and controled key sectors since after the civil war. It shows that it is a deliberate action. The more the people are poor, uneducated, religiously inclined, the easier to control them. The benefactors of this madness are the northern ruling class. Those who are paying for it are southern youths, we are paying with our sweat and blood. Our politicians have what it takes to defend us but because they have some benefits from the system, they wont act. Our resources and tax sweat are going. These guys wont protest over bad road, electricity, bad healthcare but will protest over Iran. Guy, I am so sick.
U work so hard, night and day, cut down on ur family size by maybe birthing one or two kids in the south, stay with one woman.. just to save cost. But govt milks u via all types of taxes then share the money and the people up north will use part to reward a man to marry 3 wives and birth any number of kids, thereby putting more preasure on your own income, their kids grow up and become bandits who will kidnap ur own kids and u will pay ransom. Believing that politicans do not want Nigeria to have 24 hours light is a myth. They do. It would make their businesses even more profitable, and they would earn far far more. It would also reduce pressures on them in terms of people phoning them to ask for money, since everyone in theory would be employed and working. And so forth.

The problem is NIgerians do not want to accept that to have light, you need to pay N250 per kwh and above. It frightens them and it makes them think that government wants to oppress them, when the cold reality is that it would benefit everyone....lkeep in mind that a lot of the owners of discos and gencos are...the very same politcal elites and their hangers on. A working power sector would make them even more richer.

And politicans too want to get elected. Promising not to raise electricity tarrifs to cost reflective rates is a nice way of staying in power.


Until we accept that we should pay a cost reflective tarrif , we will be on this no light till thy kingdom come.

Plus paying for generator and solar power costs more than if one was paying a cost reflective tarrif in the long term. If we all paid a cost reflective tarrif, we would have enough power, and production costs would reduce.

PLus again, it would reduce insecuirty. Again, politicans and the elite have been kidnapped and are being kidnapped. It would be better for them if there were ways to reduce the kidnapping by keeping everyone employed.

Make we dey stop lying to ourselves. We paid cost reflective tarrifs for GSM in the begining. People were shouting that the politicans and elite do not want us to have phones so that we can develop and so forth. That they wanted to keep poor people from accessing phones. The cost reflective tarrifs attracted investment, which enabled the infrastructure to be built and the costs to come down, which enabled even the poor and needy to own phones too. Why not for electrcity? Or are you saying politicans are so dull that they would tolerate being eventually eliminated by a mass of angry jobless youth by not doing so?

Nigerians should stop lying to themselves...electricity is expensive, because the things used to give you light are paid for in dollars, not in naira.

The cost of funding luxury life style can be used to fix electricity baba. A poor country has no business funding life style of politicians. Stop running away from the truth. Nigeria let GSM companies charge cost reflective tarrifs. Before then, people said phones were for the poor, now phones are for everyone.

If what you said about the politicans is right, they would have not let MTN or econoet or gsm or internet work in this country, since gsm and internet have been proven to generate jobs and income for...the masses.

They needed internet services as well, so they cant block it. Insecurity does not affect politicians, they are heavily protected, send their kids abroad, so they arent heavily hit. Reports published one time stated how politicians in Africa, Nigeria included have some of the most expensive estates in Nigeria.
Do u know how rich ordinary local govt chairman is in Nigeria? Do u know how Nigerian politicians waste money? Creating unproductive agencies as a means to reward loyalties. Budging padding, inflatrated prices. Now, lets use the 39 SUV as a case study.
Like, SUV designed for so called almost 800billion empowerment scheme. Meaning it would be for mobility for these schemes, right? So, tell me why should a poor country that claimed to be poor, a country that borrows to fund budget, spend 15billion on SUV? That means they went for luxury SUV. Pls, if I tell u that I am poor or my company is poor but my company buys me as a director 100m worth of car, u as a tax official, wont u fight me? Are we mad in this country? I am not one of those ships in this country, I am highly exposed and read and hustled my life, so I dont ass lick politicians and I dont need them, so I will alway say the truth and reality.
As a poor country that borrows to fund budget, u dont need luxury SUV for such movement. Leave such luxury for rich countries like UAE, Quatar, etc. So, what stopped the polician agents from using Lexus 205 model, Tokumbo sold for less than 30m or there about? More than 95% of Nigerians cant even afford a car of 30m legitimately, so if our govt officians use that for empowerment mobility, that is very kind of tax payers then.
Why cant they buy SUV from home made car plants here for less than 40m per one? That will save us a lot of money and channel such money into education to produce STEM driven citizens who can fix our local problems.
One of the reasons electricity is expensive to fix is because we import practically everything we need. What stops us from entering a programme plan for 5 years to produce graduates who can produce 70% of what we need to fix our local problems by investing in researches, modernizing our educational systems? What stops us from taking money used to fund the luxury life style of politciains and fix healthcare to attract lot of foreigners into Nigeria, thereby boosting our currency strength?
What stops us from investing in tourism and attract lots of visitors? What stops us from investing in our local football leagues to create lots of jobs, attract foreigners, etc boosting employment, currency strength and massive economy? We rather spend the money funding politicians.
Now, example 2, Kano spent 1m dollars, over 1.5 billion for mass wedding. A poor country that has healthcare crises, has electricity crises, has insecurity, massive umployment, massive education weakness, etc, is spending 1.5billion for mass wedding. Are u seeing the problems? Kiss the truth.

That money can only come from investment, and investment will come only if government does away with band system, and aloows the power sector charge cost reflective tarrif...ie increase prices. and meters everyone and forces the police to punish people that do not pay for electriticy, rich or poor. Not just by removing subsides..which have to go, whether we like it or not. Government does not set the price of gas, and gas prices have been increasing year in and out which is why subsides are difficult to pay, plus government itself is struggling to even raise money for overall revenue, before we talk of how they are wasting it.

And Prof is someone that should know, he has been in the power sector for over 20 years. He has contributed to trying to improve power supply in this country.

Let us tell ourselves the hard truth.

So, because the cost is high, we should continue to fund politicians luxury? Like buy 39 SUV for 15 billion? I want u to really tell me what u mean. Do u know how much has been stolen so far can fix electricity? So, who has been persecuted? Where is the money? Is there any effort to fix and tackle and block corruption? So, president can spend 17billion on Aso Rock Solar but we should understand that we cant fix national electricity becus it is costly?
So, u dont know that if u spend 1billion naira inside 10billion dollars, u have at least cut down the cost by certain percentage. The reason they dont tackle these things is not money, Nigeria has money, Nigeria has trillions from NNPC alone. Nigeria has resources that can fund and fix electricity. Yes, just one or two of our resources can fix electricity.
The reason no one is ready to fix it is simple: Keep them in darkness, they cant be productive. When they arent productive, they worship us becus they are hungry and we can give them one cup of rice to buy their votes.
Have u also wondered why education is not fixed? lol, quality education will make the citizens librated and know their left and right, govt doesnt want that and politicians dont need ur national electriicty, or education or healthcare, they rarely use ur roads, so they dont give a fly about u. I am interesed in any politician who has prioritized cutting cost, streamlining govt operations, tackling corruption and wastage, paying attention to electricity, healthcare and education. Pls it is ur area and it has always been like that in Nigeria since I was a child. Nigeria has never solved her electricity problem. In every state, there are areas that may enjoy better supply and they are usually less in number. In my place now, we get maybe 5 hours per week. And it comes once per week. Until Nigeria fixes electricity, we are just noise makers. They can buy luxury SUV for 15 billion and have 1million dollars for mass wedding but have no money to fix electricity. It is a big fraudulent country and I hate it with passion.

And some of the beneficiaries are reportedly marrying second and third wives.

I will hustle online.

I will stay awake at night looking for clients.

I will submit proposals.

I will fight to win contracts.

I will deliver services.

I will build a life from scratch.

Then after I finally earn some money, government starts taking a share of it from every direction.

VAT.

Bank charges.

Stamp duties.

More VAT on goods and services purchased with my already-taxed income.

Then government shares this money among states, and a state government decides to spend part of it sponsoring weddings instead of investing in things that improve productivity, education, healthcare, infrastructure, or economic opportunity.

And we are expected to applaud.

We are not serious in this country.

Now let us talk about the long-term consequences.

Most of these marriages will produce children.

Many of those children will grow up in households already struggling financially.

Marriage is expensive.

Raising children is expensive.

Building a stable family requires planning, responsibility, and long-term preparation.

It should not be treated as a state-sponsored project.

Years later, government will budget billions more to fight insecurity, unemployment, social instability, and crime.

Where will that money come from?

From taxpayers.

From natural resources.

From borrowing.

This is a country where quality healthcare is unavailable to most citizens.

This is a country where reliable electricity often requires spending millions on solar systems.

This is a country where public primary and secondary schools are in a state of collapse.

Yet government keeps finding money for questionable priorities.

I recently checked how much VAT alone has been taken directly from my earnings over the years, and I was shocked.

Stop this madness.

The other day, government budgeted over ₦15 billion for 39 SUVs.

These people waste money.

Then they borrow money.

Then they tell citizens they need to pay more tax because government revenue is low.

Nigeria does not have a revenue problem.

Nigeria has a spending problem.

If I tell you I am broke and then go and buy a ₦100 million car, wouldn't you think something is wrong with me?

That is exactly what Nigeria is doing.

We claim to be poor, yet we fund luxury.

We claim to be struggling, yet we refuse to cut waste.

We claim to lack money, yet we spend recklessly.

Now let me address something many people are afraid to discuss.

A growing number of Southerners believe the current structure of Nigeria is fundamentally unfair.

Southern Nigeria contributes significantly through oil and gas resources, taxes, ports, commerce, and diaspora remittances.

Yet many Southerners look at how public money is spent across the country and ask a simple question:

What exactly are we getting in return?

The issue is not North versus South.

The issue is accountability.

The issue is priorities.

The issue is whether public money is being invested in the future or spent on politics.

At a time when the world is investing heavily in technology, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, robotics, scientific research, and industrial development, some Nigerian leaders are spending billions on mass weddings.

Think about that.

Countries are competing to build the future.

We are sponsoring weddings.

Countries are building technology ecosystems.

We are buying luxury SUVs.

Countries are producing globally competitive industries.

We are expanding government spending without demanding results.

Many Southerners have reached the conclusion that the current revenue-sharing model encourages dependency rather than productivity.

I increasingly believe Nigeria needs a serious conversation about fiscal federalism.

States should be encouraged to generate more of their own revenue.

States should compete economically.

States should develop their own industries.

States should become more responsible for their own development.

A state that depends primarily on monthly allocations from Abuja has less incentive to build a productive economy than a state that must generate its own wealth.

Today, some states appear content to wait for federal allocations every month while making little effort to build globally competitive industries.

That model is not sustainable.

The future belongs to innovation.

The future belongs to technology.

The future belongs to productivity.

The future belongs to regions that create value, not regions that merely consume it.

Nigeria is blessed with natural resources.

Nigeria has abundant land.

Nigeria has enormous water resources.

Nigeria has tourism potential.

Nigeria has agricultural potential.

Nigeria has one of the largest populations in Africa.

Yet we continue making decisions that suggest we are not serious about development.

Enough is enough.

We need a government that focuses on productivity rather than politics.

We need investment in STEM education.

We need investment in infrastructure.

We need investment in healthcare.

We need investment in research and innovation.

We need leaders who understand that public money is not personal money.

And we need citizens who are willing to demand better.

Because if we continue down this path, future generations will pay the price for today's waste, corruption, and lack of vision.

I am tired and hay, I honestly dislike Nigeria. I really wish Southern Nigerians can see beyond their constant fight and understand that they are trading the future of their generation for a region that does not care about future. Southerners dont know how much they are paying for Nigeria.

All of these boils down to failed country. Nigeria is a disaster. When I went to Ghana and saw banana, I wept. To find naturally ripe banana in Nigeria is hard. Everything is messed up and it is mainly due to poverty. People are suffering so they have to find ways to survive. And that is the only way.
This is why I have said that no Nigerian presidential contestant is talking about key issues that will address Nigeria problem.
They are population control.
And U can't have population control with the current centralised political system. To achieve population control, we need decentralised or regional or UK based model. Nigeria is in deep mess.

Will they hear? Nigeria problem is not more tax, I have said it over and over again, Nigeria's problem is wastage. Like govt just dey waste money. Imagine 15billion on 39 SUVs, for what na? Imagien coastal road project, for what na?
Imagine useless agencies, for what na? Just to tax me more, why, why this wicked?

There is no justification for buying such expensive SUV for a poor country that claimed to be short of cash. Pls make it make sense. if i declare company revenue and claim to be poor and struggling but the company donated car worth 100m to director, wont tax officials fight me?
