Na why I will rather pay income tax to Banana republic than Nigeria. Nigeria has money, we dont have any business paying such huge income tax. The country is over blessed but the issue is corruption. These men are united in corruption. The South east development commission matter don die down, remember how they talked about it. They are united, just settle them selves and boom, case go sleep. These guys are among the richest on planet earth.
E go shock u to know that some mere commissioners in state have investments worth over 6billion. Not becus they invented any global product o, but through inflated prices of public projects, looting, budget padding, etc. The country is finished by these monsters.

If we run a credible country, statements like this should be shameful. It is not in your place to determine that, the citizens and residents of those states are those who will decide.
But because we run a useless country which we are aware of and pretend that all is well, we keep talking crap. Remove vote buying, remove intimidation, remove figure manipulation and let democracy run as it should be, that is the beginning of getting it right in Nigeria. Without credible election, no politician will have interest in working for the masses. I recently read about a section of the Coastal Road being named after Tinubu. This isn't the first time. Politicians and presidents all over the world have public projects named after them.

But I keep asking myself: why?

The road wasn't built with their personal money. It wasn't funded from their savings account. It was funded with public resources, tax revenue, and wealth generated from the country itself.

What exactly is so special about that?

To me, politicians are some of the most overrated people in society. We act as if they are extraordinary individuals when, in reality, most of them are simply administrators. They don't design the roads. They don't pour the concrete. They don't lay the asphalt. They don't build the bridges. They don't create the wealth that funds these projects.

They give instructions, approve budgets, and oversee public institutions that are funded by citizens.

Yet somehow, the people who paid for the project end up thanking the people who spent their money.

That has never made sense to me.

I have never been the type to worship politicians. You won't find me rushing out because one is visiting my city. I don't see them as celebrities, heroes, or saviors. They are public servants hired to perform a job.

In fact, one of the biggest burdens on many African countries is the cost of maintaining political office. Convoys, security details, luxury residences, fleets of vehicles, endless allowances, and a political class that often lives far better than the average citizen. The people carry the weight while the political establishment enjoys the benefits.

What's even more frustrating is that governments claim ownership over natural resources regardless of where they are found. Resources discovered in communities, villages, and regions are taken under state control, managed by political institutions, and the people who live closest to them often see little of the wealth generated.

Then when a road, bridge, or public project is completed using those same resources and taxpayer funds, politicians are celebrated as though they personally financed it.

Why?

If a politician uses public money to build public infrastructure, they have done the job they were elected and paid to do. That is not charity. It is not generosity. It is governance.

The strange part is that even politicians accused of wasting public funds or enriching themselves can still attract passionate supporters who praise them for projects that were never funded from their own pockets in the first place.

Maybe humans are not as rational as we think we are. Because the level of admiration many societies have for politicians—simply for managing resources that belong to the public—will always be difficult for me to understand.

I know how much our estate takes from us for security alone and they are the ones handling the people who secure the area, building gates and all that to ensure protection for all.

I pay for everything called govt form, from driver license to passport, everything is paid for, none is free. They generate huge money out of these things, plus VAT which is huge, then company income tax which is already huge, then all our natural resources belong to the central govt, they make the money, all import duties, bank taxes, all go to them. Fix our problems with those first before demanding for more. At least, let get quality health care, let stop paying for estate security, let have stable light, then u can talk of charging us further tax. On a norm, the god blessed us with enough resources to last us all if not for the greediness of the ruling class. Kiss the truth. We dont really need to operate like Europeans who dpnt have enough lands, and water and resources by heavy taxing a population of about 80 percent.

Did you get the value of the VAT you paid on top of the price of your valuation? How did you get the value? In what government service and utilities did you get it?

Did you get the value for the import duty tax paid on top of the price of your imported vehicle? How did you get it in terms of improved law and order for everyone's safety etc?

I got the value based on what I paid for. I paid for vacation, right? To me, the vat plus the amount are all sum of the total worth of the package, and I got the package, I'm fine with that.

If I book for vacation to enjoy pleasure, and VAT is added to my payment, I won't feel it. I actually paid and enjoyed my pleasure instantly. If U are importing car, U pay tax, U got the car, U won't feel it, etc. Income tax is the only useless tax that U don't see any direct benefit in a country like Nigeria. At last for Europe, U get the value.
It is even a shame that the blacks always copy europeans even though we don't share same context. Shame that we can't think for our selves and come up with a working framwork.

I think it is fair to say the man has done what was expected of him by his major stakeholders. While those interest in general does not reflect or in anyway have a wild effects on majority of Nigerians, the simple and yet irrevocable aspect of his government is that he has opened a lot of doors to make enough money if you just know where to look.

In all ways, Nigerians and the government has never had a relationship. They do what they think it's best, and the citizens complain and the underlining understanding of their excuse is you can never please everyone.

For any serious government to solve Nigeria problem, it will not only take a radical move but also a bold one at that. Everyone one isn't going to be a billionaire, and in Nigeria where influence through wealth is the most potent language, almost everyone feels they are being left behind while they see some others eat from the fruit of the nation.

As much as a lot of things are not working in this country, and the complain is over the top, every progressive mind knows problems equals opportunity. This opportunities, a lot of Nigerians are not seeing it. Making use of it becomes a matter of not knowing what to do.

An average Nigerian who works in bank, doesn't even know how to structure a deal let alone have the essence of it to raise capital to finance the deal. Everything is about government like we are living in some socialist state.

While I do not say we are in anyway close to margin of what we should be getting, it will be more productive also to start from somewhere. What Nigeria generates can not sustain Nigeria and that's even when you haven't factor corruption into the picture.

It is left for citizens to see where the cracks in the systems are, take advantage of it. Pooling resources, moving to solve problems minimals ones, creating a new avenue for resources instead of just waiting for the government to handle everything.

I wish there's a possible ways Nigerians have an avenue of people who will come together to tackle one aspect of the problem. In reality when you propose such, the attitude towards it is always the same, what is the government job. And with that attitude, a government who knows his tenure can only run for a limited time of 8 years will do everything to make sure he and not the country will continue to benefit from the time he is able to occupy that space.

The problem with Nigeria is not lack of human resources, it is purely lack of orientation.
