Adam and eve were created with a free mind, they didn't know devil existed, everything to them was good, they trusted every thing around them (that was why when they sinned Adam blammed eve that he trusted and eve blamed the serpent she trusted) so, they trusted the serpent and disobeyed God, so God had to remove then from Eden so they will not eat from the tree of life.

When Adam and Eve sinned, man was sold to the devil and destined for destruction so everything a man does will surely lead to his destruction. Since then, man have been trying to avoid this destruction and having been trying to reconcile with God. Anyone that is reconciled with God, God begins to order their step and guides them, but God will still mot force them into doing his will.
Read Genesis 6:3. Before then, God was the one finding a way to reconcile man to him, but after that verse, God backed out and it became man searching for God
