Education / Re: The Worst University In Nigeria by PrinceRaj1: 10:23pm On Apr 28, 2011
A university is defined as an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees in a variety of subjects. A university is a corporation that provides both undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word university is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, roughly meaning "community of teachers and scholars."

It is also an educational institution designed for instruction, examination, or both, of students in many branches of advanced learning, conferring degrees in various faculties, and often embodying colleges and similar institutions.

What part of these definitions does Madonna University lack?

I dont know anything about the school just want to know why you think it is the worst in Nigeria, because even coming last is important.

So please share with me.

Education / Re: What Do You Expect From Your Higher Institution? by PrinceRaj1: 10:04pm On Apr 27, 2011
I guess students these days just get obsessed with going to a school or with getting higher qualification without having any expectation of what the institution should give them or have.

most of them just want to get a certificate for joining the rest of the millions seeking for job.
Education / Re: Any Hope For Mathematicians In Nigeria? by PrinceRaj1: 11:27pm On Apr 22, 2011
I listed 12 professions on your other thread that mathermaticians are in now.
1. Banker,
2. Business analyst,
3. Operations research analyst
4. Stock exchange
5. Financial accountant
6. Programmer
7. Professional Teaching
8. Consulting
9. Statistical analyst
10. Lecturer/research fellow
11. Economic analyst
12. Business Strategist/Planner

If you become a mathematician and you dont use it to provide solutions for companies around you. You will be useless to yourself and everyone.

And you will be broke. Mathematics is a tool you can use to provide solution to people that can pay you. You are like an artisan, you need to work for people so you can get paid. Only difference is you get paid more for intelectual work. You can also consider other jobs that dont require employment just services. Private tutoring, auditing, data analysis for academic projects, spreadsheet modelling etc. Studying mathematics cant be such a bad thing except you dont know how use the skills you have.

All the best
Education / Re: Who Wants To Be A Mathematician In 2011/2012 Session Of Unn by PrinceRaj1: 10:46pm On Apr 22, 2011
You mean people actually choose mathematics as first choice? Whao!! That will be nice to see. I love mathematics., but I dont think people choose mathematics as first choice because those who are good at it from secondary school usually go into engineering or some other discipline.

It is after those other courses have reject students through post jamb that they now do change of course to mathermatics.

Do us a favour, list the professions that mathematics graduates are working in now that you know;
Let me start with 12 respectable and well paying jobs.
1. Banker,
2. Business analyst,
3. Operations research analyst
4. Stock exchange
5. Financial accountant
6. Programmer
7. Professional Teaching
8. Consulting
9. Statistical analyst

Education / What Do You Expect From Your Higher Institution? by PrinceRaj1: 10:26pm On Apr 22, 2011
I want to use this medium collate people's opinion on expectations from their Higher Institution. Without making any distinction between type of institution, whether it is a univeristy, a polytechnic or College of Education/ Technology, Technical College.

I really will like you to share your expectations from the school (higher institution) you are in now or the one you want to attend.

Please share us, What is you expectation?

Some university in the UK and US as part of Total Quality Management, see students as their customers, even though some educationists argue that for students to be treated as customers they need to have expectations.

If you dont have expectations it may be difficult to satisfy you as a student.

Kindly share your expections and in one word of (yes/No) tell us if you are currently satisfied with your higher institution.
Your higher institution may be a college of tech, college of education, polytechnic, university and technical college.
Lets share your expectation.

when you reply use this format,;
Type of school, No I am not satisfied, I expect the school to,
College of education, Yes I am satisfied, I expect the school to deliver modern courses and it does.

Thank you again.

Education / Re: Who Said "it's Not How Far, But How Well" ? by PrinceRaj1: 9:33am On Apr 19, 2011
I have heard people make this statement for years, yes, I have heard people say to someone who failed, but I have heard more people who failed saying it, and saying it boldly with a conviction that what they are saying make sense.

I am sure I am not the only one who as heard or seen this. I have heard this over the last 18 years before writing up this topic. Its not a debate or argument. Its from experience.
Education / Re: Who Said "it's Not How Far, But How Well" ? by PrinceRaj1: 7:28pm On Apr 18, 2011
Thanks for your contribution. It is honest understandable that people say it for consolation.

But I have seen it abused such that people proudly say it, and are comfortable with failure once they say it. Its not that I pass all my WAEC papers at once, and first time was in SS2 and I had f9 in physics and chemistry, I am not saying I have never failed, failing is a part of learning, learning that you do not know enough pass is very important. It make go back to learn those thing which you did not know.

You should go and take they syllabus again and set you target to pass.
Go back to you pass questions and practice, prepare yourself for another opportunity to pass.

If you take consolation in failure saying such statements you are giving up mentally on the fact that you should pass and progress in.

It sounds like you are saying its not important that that I pass , its only important that I do the exam well.

Pass exam - how far
Do exam (as many times as possible) - how well.

Though in truth, doing an exam many times is not well. There is nothing well about it. Its a challenge you need to tackle with all you might.

Dont ever give up on yourself. You are born to pass. If science in JAMB is too hard, go for councelling and change your course to social science or arts, find another profession you want to do.
Its better you are a success in accounting than a failure in Physics, you are better a well celebrated fashion designer, Interior decorator, Contractor, trader then a failed chemist or mathematician or frustrated teacher, or unemployed engineer, agronomist. A successful farmer is better than a civil engineering graduate lookin for a job.

Start going into courses that will give you self employement. Jobs are very scarce in Nigeria.

They dont even teach how to become business owner schools, univeristy and co.

Please think about it, live is really about how far and how well. You cant live your life giving up how far for how well. You should go far with the hope that it will be well.

Thank you
Education / Who Said "it's Not How Far, But How Well" ? by PrinceRaj1: 12:12am On Apr 18, 2011
Hello Nairalanders,

I have been hearing this statement since the 1990's especially around when I was doing my WAEC.

When people are unable to pass their exams they say "it's not how far but how well", and I have always thought it was a loser's statement.

I could be wrong, but I have been searching for the wise man who is being quoted to have said that.

The statement is not attributed to anybody at all, but surprisingly people still say it everyday.

Confucius didn't say it, Aristotle dint say it, its not in the bible and its not even attributed to a Bob Marley or Fela, who could have been high on something.

It does not make sense to me, I am just wondering if it does to anyone apart from those who say it when they fail or lose.

I can imagine if a football team say such if the team plays well but drops out in the first round of a world cup competition. How well can that be when going far up to the finals and winning was their in the game.

Can an employee say such if still is at the same level and income after many years of doing a job? How well can he be when inflation has overtaken is income. Even messenger job get senior position. Head Messenger, chief driver, Master Chef.

A baby cant be a baby forever, size, position or income must change.

For all those who quote this statement to relief themselves when they fail, please snap out of it.

Atleast if you are going to quote something or follow a believe, follow one that makes sense or aleast is attributed to a wise man.

Do you have information about this loser statement "it's not how far but how well"? please let me know.

Thanks

Programming / Re: Oracle by PrinceRaj1: 11:37pm On Aug 21, 2010
There are quite a number oracle courses aside DataBase Admin DBA (popularly known), there is also Application developer, E business function Applications( Inventory, Order management, Financials (AR, AP, GL, Cash Management), Purchasing, Asset Management, Product manufacturing, Business Intelligence, Customer Relationship Mgt(CRM), HR Mgt System HRMS, Payroll, System Administrator,, there are still more.

Most of the time, institutes in Nigeria teach Database Mgt for students to become OCA, OCP. Meanwhile only a handfull of companies in Nigeria run on Oracle database while 10s of 1000s of people have the certification in Nigeria alone. No company will employ someone to manage their server without any real experience not even class room one. If you have  140k to spend, I suggest you spend it wisely.  I did my Oracle Application developer course at NIIT and unexpectedly my company implemented Oracle, though I was already in IT, the most useful thing to me today is knowing how to write SQL codes. Which I built on my own using VB forms and MsAccess (being a desktop RDBMS). Other 20 guys that attended the training with me are not so lucky.

PL/SQL is just about the same as SQL.  Try learn functional applications like Account receivables, AP, Inventory Mgt. Order management. You will get more value for money. Everyone cant be sitting at the server, nursing it and taking backup, it is boring.

Fun thread!!
hello guys,

I have 3 simple questions that are related to physics.

Preface
We know that Matter is anything that has weight and occupies space

Questions
Q1. What has Weight but does not occupy space?

Q2. What occupies space but has no weight?

Q3. What will you get if you put what you have in Q1 inside what you have in Q2?

Education / Re: Online Provisional Admission List Is Up by PrinceRaj1: 1:51pm On Nov 22, 2009
Mr Fox, I want to ask this question here on Nairaland, so everyone can benefit from the response.
I have read your post on the reasons why employers discriminate against HND and I have seen your reasons why candidates should consider highland college of technology education.

You adviced that polytechnics should get lecturers that have P.hD and do more research. So I want ask does highland college of technology have P.hD lecturers doing research? Or how is highland college of technology planning to differentiate her graduates in the job market?

At least you should practice what you preach. Let us know please.

Mr blazer:

Congratulation newbie, you have 2 posts. Say something else pls like 'good morning brother''

Is that the singular form of congratulations? Evidently too much posts on Nairaland as caused you to tell lies. Do you even have a girl friend? You talk too much, what do you leave for your girlfriend to do? Anyway, joblessness is a disease and posting your imagination does not show wisdom.
