This is one reason why I like PDP. They know when to give up and move on. Life Continues! |
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the people of Anambra state for the peaceful and orderly conduct of last Saturday’s governorship election. The party also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for providing adequate security and the enabling environment for credible, free and fair election in the state in spite of any perceived hitch(es). PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Sunday said the party is satisfied that despite the massive importation of thugs and plots by the All progressives Congress (APC) to introduce violence to disrupt and rig the election, the process was conducted peacefully. “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby commends President Goodluck Jonathan for providing adequate security and the enabling environment for the conduct of credible, free and fair governorship election in Anambra state last Saturday in spite of any perceived hitch(es) “In the same vein we commend the entire people of Anambra state and all stakeholders who played key roles in ensuring peaceful and orderly conduct of the process. “While we now await the official result, we wish to express our satisfaction that the election was conducted without disturbances, despite the massive importation of political thugs by the All progressives Congress (APC) as well as their heinous plots to introduce violence to disrupt and rig the poll having discovered that they have been rejected by the people. “We also commend the candidate of our great party, Comrade Tony Nwoye for his resilience, grass root appeal and credible outing which brought him to the forefront in the race despite having only two weeks to campaign. This is evident in the results so far released in which he roundly defeated the candidate of the APC who has been campaigning for four months before our candidate. The PDP is indeed happy with Comrade Tony Nwoye’s performance so far. “While we charge all our members to continue to remain calm and focused, we wish to state that our final position on the election will be made known when the overall result is declared by INEC. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/anambra-guber-pdp-hails-polls-conduct/ |
THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, says the crisis rocking his party is a blessing in disguise. Tukur, however, dismissed the insinuation of imminent implosion in the ruling party. He restated the party’s claim that it had not been notified of the verdict of an Appeal Court ordering the reinstatement of its sacked National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. He stressed the need for members of the PDP to work with unity of purpose, insisting that this was the way forward. The PDP chairman said this, on Friday, in Lagos, at a reception to commemorate his recognition as ‘African Man of the year 2013′, by the Congressional Black Caucus of the United States. Tukur stated that the PDP was in a class of its own for having the most diverse membership nationwide just as he called for unity within the party especially in the a South-west region. He said “It is my prayer that the unity of purpose being exhibited here today would translate into political unity for the success of our party in the South- West in the coming elections,” he added. According to him, “The problem our party is passing through is a blessing in disguise; we have to thank God that it is now a thing of the past, notwithstanding the exaggeration that the press is giving what ordinarily is a family feud.” He argued that differences of the nature the PDP had witnessed in recent times were not unexpected in a party as big as the PDP which main focus is democracy. Said he: “Each and every member of our great party is given freedom of expression; we dialogue and discuss freely, in the process we disagree, and this we all resolve amicably. “You will recall that almost all our members who left the party usually came back, because it is the only party in the country that allows freedom of expression and dialogue rather than operate a formal system, like others where directives are given for compulsory implementation by other leaders and members. God forbid that! “Our party says election not selection; our party says consensus not imposition.”

No surprises here. Coming from this charlatan who carries a huge integrity baggage, throwing his support for a diversionary exercise, designed to conceal his gross incompetence and inadequacies. |
His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday averred that there is no problem between Christianity and Islamic religions but instead, between Christians and Muslims. The Sultan, who was speaking as a co-convener of an Interfaith Mini Conference, which held in Abuja yesterday, said it was imperative for Nigerians, regardless of their religious differences, to accept the fact that we were all created by one God and as such, should live as one family. He said “you cannot claim to love God when you don’t love your neighbour”, adding that the adherents of Christianity and Islam have many things in common. He stressed the need for peaceful co- existence, which according to him, was imperative now more than ever before. “There are problems in this country, particularly in the North, that require solutions; let us not deceive ourselves that there are no problems. “There is no problem between Christianity and Islam but between Christians and Muslims, and we must all agree to find solutions to these problems dividing us rather than uniting us”, he said. “It is important to know where we started derailing from being one another’s brother”, he stated. Also speaking, His Eminence, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, who was also a co-convener, said all hands must be on deck to address political crises which often turned religious. He stressed that if the adherents of Christianity and Islam would live by the provisions of their Holy Books, the country would be better off. He decried the manipulation of religion and politics and called on religious leaders to be on guard and intensify efforts aimed at finding solutions to religious crises tearing the country apart. “If we have no peace, it is because we forget that we belong together, and if people live by what they profess, the world will be in peace”, Onaiyekan reiterated. Contributing, His Highness, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, called on religious bodies to adhere strictly to the rules of their religions. While decrying the high level of impunity in the system, the Etsu Nupe stressed that “unless and until the laws of Christianity and Islam and those of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are adhered to strictly, the results of our religious differences will be better imagined than experienced”. He expressed the hope that decisions reached at the end of the conference would be fully implemented. Earlier in the first paper presentation, Professor Adamu Baikie, who spoke on the theme of the conference ‘The Imperatives of Interfaith Understanding and Co-operation for Responsible Politics’, identified religious, political, social, ethnic and legal issues as the reasons why interfaith dialogue has failed, and the causes of inter-religious tensions and crises in Nigeria. He stressed the need for religious leaders to put their followers on the right track to achieve peaceful co- existence. http://leadership.ng/news/151113/no-problem-between-christianity-islam-their-adherents-sultan

Adamawa State governor Sule Lamido has taken a swipe at former education minister Prof Jubril Aminu over his comment that members of the breakaway faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, particularly the G-7 governors, were fighting for their personal interests. The governor told the erstwhile senator to “shut up”, saying the comment of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) member was made so he could “remain politically relevant”. Aminu had last week said at his 75th birthday: “I have nothing against the APC, but I don’t understand what they are doing; they want people to come from another party to join and make them strong. Unfortunately, they are going to the wrong people because, in the state, Nyako has no structures to take to the APC because he was defeated in the recent Nassarawo/Binyere State Assembly polls held in his LGA. “A lot of these aggrieved governors of the new PDP are trying to find themselves out of the struggle; they are fighting for their personal interests. Why have my brother Sule Lamido, governor of Jigawa State, and others not left the party yet? He can’t, because PDP made him foreign affairs minister of this country and governor and he cannot turn his back to these things. Or is it the Kano State governor or Niger State governor? So what are they waiting for?” He argued that the low turnout of people to the meeting of APC leaders with Gov. Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State sent a clear message that the Adamawa people were not in support of the governor’s moves. But Lamido, in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Umar Kyari, faulted Aminu’s position even as he said the G-7 governors’ stance against the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP was based on principle. The statement reads: “On Monday, November 11, 2013, a couple of Nigerian dailies carried reports of unwarranted attack on the G-7 governors by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees member, Prof. Jibril Aminu. I am not surprised that these attacks are coming from my elder and leader who found a new pastime by picking on G-7 governors and myself in particular to remain politically relevant. “I had cause to respond to a similar attack over my appointment by Mr President to head a committee to investigate Adamawa PDP crisis with a view to bringing peace to the PDP family in Adamawa State. “Having been forced to again correct the records, I would like to state that there was nowhere the G-7 governors ever made the claim that we were ‘fighting’ our party to prove our political relevance. It is all on principles and against the impunity of Bamanga Tukur, pure and simple! This basic fact must be recognized by my elder Jubril Aminu. “Now coming to my person as Sule Lamido, Prof. Aminu knows more than anybody my role in making and sustaining his political relevance in Adamawa and Nigeria. He knew he was politically dead and out in the general election of 2003. His personal testimony to this was his interview over the BBC accepting defeat of his senatorial election to the rival AC/ ANPP. “It pains me to come to this level to demand that my brother shut up! He is devaluing and diminishing himself to desperately remain ‘afloat and relevant’. I feel embarrassed for him! As for me, I can say I don’t need to prove anything to anybody! I think I can certainly modestly lay some claim to political relevance NOT only in my state or the North, but in Nigeria.” http://leadership.ng/news/151113/sule-lamido-jubril-aminu-shut
