The PDP challenged the APC to publish the name of its interim officials The war of words between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the religion in politics continued on Wednesday with the former insisting that the APC is promoting religious divisions. The PDP, in a statement by its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, also challenged the APC to publish the list of its 35 interim officials and state their offices. The PDP was responding to APC’s statement admonishing it for trying to build animosity in the 2015 election using religion. “It is shocking that the APC would attempt to hoodwink Nigerians even in the face of incontrovertible facts exposing its religious inclinations and plots to divide the nation along religious lines.” The PDP said contrary to the denials posted by the APC in its statement on Wednesday, “the revelations by an Islamic cleric, Ambassador Yusuf Garba and the Religious Equity Promotion Council (REPC) that APC seeks to impose an agenda like the Egypt Muslim Brotherhood remains a fact that cannot be brushed aside.” The ruling party stated that it will continue to expose and resist anything that seeks to cause divisions among Nigerians. It called on Nigerians to resist the antics of the APC to Islamise the country. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/152978-pdp-insists-apc-promotes-religious-bigotry.html

…As Ebonyi PDP adopts Jonathan for 2015 From JEFF AMECHI AGBODO, Abakaliki Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State has declared that President Jonathan will handover to the next President of the country on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019. This was even as Ebonyi State chapter of the PDP has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan to run for a second term in 2015 presidential election. The declarations were made at the weekend at the New Year party and mini rally organised by the state PDP at the Abakaliki Township stadium where the stakeholders and PDP faithful in the state gathered to pay solidarity to the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. The party also passed a vote of confidence on President Jonathan due to his numerous development strides and transformation going on in all the sectors of the economy of the country. The member representing Ohaozara/ Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Mr. Linus Okorie, who moved the motion for the vote of confidence and adoption of Jonathan for 2015 said that the President has provided democratic dividends to all parts of the country. The motion, which was seconded by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr Chukwuma Nwazunku was overwhelmingly supported by all stakeholders and executive members of the party at all levels by a voice vote. In his speech at the event, Governor Elechi urged Ebonyians to support PDP which he said has no alternative to other parties, saying that oppositions were fighting for nothing and don’t have anything to show. His words: “When some governors said they were declaring for APC and some National Assembly members followed suit, I did not ask any of my Senators and House of Representative members, whether they were decamping because I knew that was one mistake they will never make in their life. “In Ebonyi State, there is no opposition party because only one party that is credible, one party that does not impose candidates, that respects the views of the electorate, one party that is law abiding is in control.” Elechi, who carpeted opposition parties in the country on their statement that they wanted to rescue Nigeria, stressed that PDP, under the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan has entirely revived all the sectors. “When the airways collapsed, they did not rescue Nigeria. Jonathan revived the airports and allowed the private sectors to operate. And now, we have a total result,” he said. They did not come to rescue us. When the Nigerian railways collapsed, they did not rescue the railways until Jonathan revived the railway system. “When the power sector was in comatose, they said nothing about it until the road map was given by the current president and we see positive changes happening, they say they want to rescue Nigerians. “When the economy was so bad, they did not rescue Nigeria, now that World Bank has found out that Nigeria has over taken South Africa and has become number one economy of the continent that is the time they are rescuing Nigeria,” he stated. He said that it was because the President could not be defeated that pushed the opposition parties into spreading the message that if Jonathan would contest, Nigeria would disintegrate and the whole country would be set ablaze. He however, described it as expression of fear. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/cover/jonathanll-rule-till-2019-gov-elechi/ |

Jonathan still remains the best President ever produced by Nigeria. Sir, Ride on till 2019. No Shaking! |
Plans by close aides of President Goodluck Jonathan to win re-election include exploiting division in the ranks of the nation’s governors, playing on the political ambitions of some Northern power brokers and the promotion of a clash of egos between the leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) The plans, believed to have been prepared by close aides of the President ahead of the 2015 election, identified the House of Representatives, which the strategists claim to have become the mouthpiece of the opposition, the President’s ineffective utilisation of his powers and the dominance of ethnic jingoists around President Jonathan as some of the major weaknesses for the president’s second term campaign. The strategists also cited APC, if it does not implode, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, the Northern States Governors Forum, regional alliances, especially in the North, as some serious threats to the President in having a smooth return to power. The strategy document, entitled 2013-2015: Political power and governance road map, believed to have been prepared in the last quarter of last year and had been the subject of speculation, came to light yesterday when it was published by Premium Times, an online news platform. The crux of the strategy is a SWOT analysis which underpinned the President’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats in the run up to the decisive election. In the SWOT analysis, reproduced by Premium Times, the President’s handlers also cited the strengths of the President to include the power of incumbency, access to secure cash, the backing of a formidable political structure, among others. The document was produced after the split of PDP, but before the exit of five governors, who recently left the party for APC. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Communications, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said he was on holiday yesterday, but claimed that “if the President has a plan to win the 2015 elections, I can assure you that it can never be found in Premium Times.” The SWOT analysis read in part Strengths: Power of incumbency and utilisation of governance machinery, especially the careful and legal deployment of its propaganda and coercive apparatus; secure financial resources base and leveraging on strategic media assets. Others are formidable political apparatus—a reformed, disciplined and tightly controlled PDP— with significant presence in all the 36 states and dominant control over 23 states; Deep-rooted, nation-wide support structures in the shape of Goodluck Support Group and literally speaking, hundreds of youths, women and regional affiliates controlled and supervised by the more dominant support structures; Effective and efficient implementation of the transformation agenda in critical national sectors; high personal likeability rating, which has to be further strengthened and deepened; When the chips are down, immense support will be secured from the National Council of State by ex- leaders who value continuity and order over instability and chaos. Weaknesses •A less than forceful Presidential presence and infective deployment and application of presidential power The perceived appropriation of presidential advocacy space by exuberant partisans and fanatical supporters who project a wrong image of the presidency as a regional agenda. This situation tends to alienate moderate political forces across the country whose sense of co-ownership of the presidency appears diminished •A perceived sense of distance between the Presidency and the PDP that has opened the space for internal dissention and outright rebellion by party stalwarts. This sense of disinterest and disengagement has engendered a culture of apology among Presidential spokespersons whenever matters connecting Mr President and the party appear on the public sphere •Following on the above, the reality of Mr President being the leaders of the nation and the LEADER OF THE PARTY is not sufficiently grounded •A technocratic cabinet that is not fully politically engaged, especially in media advocacy and community- wide outreach programmes. This unhelpful situation out burdens a handful regime insiders in their constant defense of The Presidency and the Transformation agenda •A presidential communication strategy that is weak on proactive propaganda and rapid response •Inability of Presidential power strategists to manage the relationship between The Presidency and the NASS to the degree that the later, particularly the HOR, which is dominated by the PDP, appears as an outfit and mouthpiece of the opposition •Problematic relationship between the Presidency and some former heads of State when, in actuality, they should constitute the bedrock of his support Opportunities •Exploiting the current fractured state of the NGF for maximum political advantage by strengthening the co- operative faction and sustaining the pressure on recalcitrant PDP governors •Exploiting the opportunities inherent in the putative fracturing of the Northern Governors’ Forum by strengthening co-operative governors and sustaining pressure, directly and through different front organizations, on the recalcitrant governors •Playing on the political ambitions of regional champions, especially in the North, to the degree and extent that no unanimity of political purpose and cohesive agenda is ever achieved •The APC may appear as a formidable threat initially but substantive opportunities will abound when ambitions and egos clash among its principal promoters. Strategic planning should factor in the scenario in the designing of intervention blueprint •Exploiting the immense public opinion opportunities in the current war against terror in the North, especially given the steady successes thus far recorded by the NSA, and the military high command through the JTF •Utilizing the social and economic empowering and inclusive space provided by SURE-P, particularly its integrated community empowerment schemes, to advertise and show case the populist and pro-people orientation of the government Threats. There are sufficient grounds to believe that the NASS continues to pose a threat to the effective exercise of Presidential power in the areas of budget-making processes and the on-going amendments of the constitution with specific reference to devolution of power and tenure of elected officials. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/01/2015-aides-analyse-jonathan-can-win-lose/

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Fderal Government to brace up to the challenges of leadership by meeting the needs of the people. Government, he said, should stop taking Nigerians for granted, describing the current poverty level in the country as unacceptable. Abubakar gave the advice in a New Year message sent out by his media office in Abuja on Monday. Abubakar said it has become expedient for leaders in political offices at different levels to brace up to the challenges of nation-building and economic prosperity for the nation and its people. He described as unacceptable the worsening poverty in the country, which, he noted, is daily taking its toll on the ordinary citizens. The former Vice President added that leaders should not take the continued patience of the Nigerian people for granted. “With hard work and dedication, elected leaders and public servants can rise to the expected challenges of national development and economic prosperity to redress the deepening poverty of ordinary Nigerians in 2014. “Public office holders should not take the magnanimity of the Nigerian people for granted,’’ Abubakar said. He also congratulated Nigerians on the New Year and urged them to face the future with optimism that the year will bring good tidings. He thanked God for keeping Nigeria together despite its myriad of security, political and socio- economic challenges. “Despite our challenges in the area of security, infrastructure, politics and economy, I am grateful to God for keeping us together as one. “It is my hope that we all will face the future of our country with confidence and fervent hope that God will grant us the better tomorrow we are working for,’’ he said. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2013/12/stop-taking-nigerians-granted-atiku-tells-jonathan/

The Presidency on Sunday described the claim by Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso that the Peoples Democracy Party would lose the presidential election in 2015 as wishful thinking. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said this in an interview with one of our correspondents. Also, the PDP dismissed the governors’ claim, saying it was not known for rigging. Gulak said contrary to the governors’ claim, the PDP would win convincingly in the forthcoming election and again form the Federal Government. He described the APC as a bed of strange fellows, adding that the party had started experiencing crisis in some states. He said, “That claim by the two governors and others in the APC is a wishful thinking. “I can assure you that the PDP will win the next general elections and form the government at the federal level. “The PDP is the only organised national party in the country. It is the party to beat. “The APC is a bed of strange fellows. You know that they have started experiencing crisis. Go to Sokoto State, they have two offices already. That is happening in some other states too.” The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party said it was unfortunate that Amaechi and Kwankwaso who it said benefitted from the party were deriding the party. The party said it was weary of replying the two governors. It however added that the party was not known to rigging elections. Amaechi had in an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday said unless the PDP rigged the 2015 elections, it would not win. His Kano State counterpart urged Nigerians to work hard and vote the PDP out in 2015. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, who spoke with our correspondents on the telephone in Abuja on Sunday, however, assured the two governors that 2015 would show the popularity of the party. He said, “I find it difficult and painful to react to this because these were formidable members of our party that had benefitted immensely from the party.” http://www.punchng.com/news/2015-pdp-ll-win-presidency-tells-amaechi-others/

Wow! That's so nice and thoughtful of her. I hope others will equally emulate her kind gesture. |
Amaechi and his selfish quest for power. APC will never be the Solution that Nigerians are yearning for. APC = All Past/Present Criminals |
When Governor Peter Obi did this, people accused him of playing politics with it. Now that Fashola has done same, I wonder if he's also playing politics. People and their myopic way of reasoning! |

Yes, OBJ should be arrested and prosecuted with immediate effect! He has done more harm than good to humanity. His wrongdoings have become too numerous to mention. |
cramjones: FFK is on point here. Jonathan is the most insincere president Nigeria has ever produced. This was someone that told us Boko Haram will end in June of 2012, yet we knew what happened after that. Someone that told Nigerians he wants only one term...someone that said MEND was not responsible for the Abuja bombing....yet we know what happened with Henry Okah; someone that said Nigerians now have light on CNN...the list goes on and on. FFK has said it all...Jonathan is a liar and working to destroy Nigeria...he must be voted out come 2015 SHUT UP! U remain the most Insincere clown here for selling out ur conscience to the insincere APC. If not for this Xmas Season, I would have called u a greedy, deluded, outrageous, myopic and daft clown. |
FFK is really trying hard to feel Important and Relevant. APC will NEVER be the Solution that Nigerians yearn for. They are all after their own Personal and Selfish Interest. So FFK has been supportive of OBJ because of his Sincerity? Useless Clown! APC = All Past/Present Criminals |
Abeg, Who is winning this battle now? What's the score? I'm only watching from the bench! |
It's getting more interesting! |
Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to The President on Public Affairs, this evening, in Lagos, replied Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s critics, saying “responsible leaders don’t talk like this.” He asked rhetorically. “Did you see any leader anywhere ridiculing their president like this?” He spoke to media men at the Renaissance Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja. When journalists pushed Okupe to comment on the “letter bomb” written by his former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo, to Jonathan, he responded that he was “duty bound not to comment on it,” because, “you people have read enough reactions and comments on it in the papers.” However, when he was speaking on the terrorism crisis, he dismissed Obasanjo’s “carrot and stick” suggestion as mundane because, as he put it, “things have gone beyond the old model.” In his words, the Nigerian military personnel are doing their best, even though many Nigerians have become “experts on insurgency”. Then Okupe took a dig at the leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC “who move in agbada from city to city, fishing for leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because (APC) has no leader. Okupe dismissed APC as a collection of those who wrecked Nigeria. “How will Nigeria be saved if all the people troubling Nigeria are not put in a boat that will sink?” Okupe asked. He added that when Jonathan defeats this so called giant (APC), then all glory will be to God.” He wanted Nigerians to realise that although the opposition had been claiming that Jonathan had not done anything, Okupe said that rather than attacking personalities, he prefers “to operate from the point of view of incontrovertible evidence on which you journalists can take me to task.” Thus, on road, he listed 37 different projects some of which have been completed across the six geo political zones. With regard to power, he boasted that Jonathan, through the power sector reform, had boosted electricity from 2,600mw to an installed capacity of 6,700mw “with 2,300mw additional fresh generation capacity expected from NIPP project by next year.” The only trouble, as he explained, was in the interruption of gas supply as a result of vandalisation of pipelines. “We can from here go up, we cannot go down,” said he. On the economy, he was not happy about the way critics attack the government, which they claim parade high GDP when poverty ravages the land. “When you meet a rot, It is like a sinking building. To put the foundation in order, you have a lot of work to do which may not be visible. Yet, people passing by will say no work is being done,” he reasoned. Okupe, therefore, challenged Nigerians to do their research well, saying that “there is no international economic fora where Nigeria has not been praised.” He added: “These organisations are not fools. We did not bribe them.” Okupe claimed that the Jonathan administration is “the best since indepdence in 1960.” He further spoke on the Jonathan administration’s achievements in health, aviation reforms, education, agriculture, sports development, security and others. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/12/22/okupe-blasts-jonathans-critics-apc-leaders/ |
