A 60-year-old man (name unknown), suspected to be a ritualist, has been captured for allegedly stealing female underwear as well as already used sanitary pads in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The suspect, was caught by some commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) at Danjuma area along Isikan road of the state capital following his suspicious movement within the neighborhood.

After being caught, he was handed over to the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, by residents of the area who had earlier beat him blue and black.

While giving a vivid account of the incident which threw the neighbourhood into pandemonium, one of the residents who gave her name as Adeola Oluwasegun, said the suspect was initially mistaken for a lunatic before he was exposed by “okada riders” who she guess have been trailing him from a distance.

She narrated that, “We first saw the old man roaming the streets like a mentally unstable man while holding a small bag and we were thinking he was begging for food or money.

“Later, we noticed some Okada men shouting thief from afar and we did not know they were after the old man who they called ritualists.

“By the time, they would dragged the bag from him, he was caught with dirty female underwares lilke bra, pants, cloth and sanitary pads.

“Many residents were angry and they gave him the serious beating of his life. In fact, they nearly lyched him to death before he was whiskey away by some elderly people.”

It was gathered that no less than twelve female soaked sanitary pads and undies were found in possession of the suspect.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Command of the NSCDC, Oladipo Samuel, disclosed that the suspect is already in the corps’ custody, adding that investigation has commenced.

CrimeMan Arrested After Calling President A ‘monkey’ by Princsk1(op): 7:22am On Sep 08, 2018
Rosana James with agency reports.

Kenya has arrested a Chinese businessman after a video of him making a string of racist remarks was widely shared on social media, the government said Thursday.

The Chinese national, identified as Liu Jiaqi, has been arrested and is being processed for deportation, said Kenya’s immigration department.

“His work permit has been canceled and (he) will be deported on racism grounds,” the immigration service said on its Twitter feed.

In the two and a half minute video shared on Twitter and elsewhere, Liu, who appears to be in the midst of a dispute with one of his employees, is recorded issuing a litany of racist slurs.

“Every one, every Kenyan… like a monkey, even Uhuru Kenyatta. All of them,” he said.

After the employee suggests Liu should “go back to China” if he feels that way, the businessman responds with further abuse.

“I don’t belong to here. I don’t like here, like monkey people, I don’t like talk with them, it smells bad, and poor, and foolish, and black. I don’t like them. Why not [like] the white people, like the American?”

He added that he only stays in Kenya because “money is important.”

It was not clear from the video exactly what Liu’s job was in Kenya.

Some Kenyans on social media have called for Liu to be charged rather than simply deported.

This is not the first time Chinese workers in Kenya have been accused of racism.

Three years ago a small Chinese restaurant in the capital Nairobi was shut down by authorities and the owner charged for operating a “no blacks” policy after 5pm.

Earlier this year Kenyan workers on a new Chinese-built railway alleged racism and discrimination by Chinese staff and managers.

However, the government dismissed allegations of racism on the $3.2 billion (2.8 billion euro) signature infrastructure project.

Kenyatta was this week in Beijing attending a conference where China promised to invest another $60 billion in Africa.

The arrest comes a day after Kenyan police raided the African headquarters of the China Global Television Network in Nairobi, briefly detaining several journalists as part of an ongoing crackdown against illegal immigrants.

The Chinese embassy said in a statement it would express its concern through diplomatic channels, after several incidents in which nationals with legal documents were hauled into police stations for verification.

THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, runners up in the party’s governorship primary, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, has declared that he was still in the race, adding that he has not stepped down for the candidate of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Ogunbiyi denied being settled with the party Senatorial ticked in the 2019 general election.

A week on from his tragic death, Mercy says his children are asking for their father: "My son has been asking me about his dad. If I'm talking to someone on the phone, he says 'mummy is that my daddy? mummy, can I see my dad?"

"Normally when he [Blankson] travels we do video calls. This past Saturday, a week after he left, my son was really down. He felt everything emotionally. And my daughter has been crying because she knows something is wrong."

The young widow is now left with a four-year-old son and seven-month-old daughter to raise alone. She says it won't be easy as she is currently unemployed and her husband was the sole breadwinner for the family.

Nigerians have taken to social media to hail Blankson's heroic efforts and make sure he is not forgotten.

One Facebook user wrote: "Blackson showed the world that there are heroes out there. He said it was better 13 people had their lives back than saving his and knowing he didn't try to help. That to me means more than life itself."

"I call on the state government to take this brave hero's legacy one more step by providing for the family he left behind."

PoliticsStruggle To ‘free’ Nigeria Is To Defect From APC – Secondus by Princsk1(op): 8:37am On Aug 03, 2018
By Nigeria Happenings

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Thursday, received the newly defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abuja.

The meeting formally received Senate President Bukola Saraki, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal – who just defected – to the opposition party.

Saraki while addressing the meeting: “I am happy to see some of my colleagues here who have given me faith in this country, who have made me believe there are still men of character, that there are still men who are still ready to make sacrifices for this country.”

Describing Saraki as key in the renewed struggle to “free” Nigeria, Secondus praised the defectors, saying history would be fair to them.

He said: “The bold steps you took to return to the party where you truly belong, is a sacrifice not for yourself but for Nigeria and history will be fair to you.

“Today is the beginning of the great journey to freedom, the great journey to free our people and rescue this country from the damage done to it by the APC in the last three years”.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko faulted Tambuwal’s defection, saying he made a “the worst decision in his life.”

He said Sokoto State would remain an All Progressives Congress (APC) state in spite of the governor’s exit.

In Abuja, the PDP sealed its alliance with a coalition of 39 political parties to fight the ruling APC.

Secondus said it was time for the coalition to rescue Nigeria from the “misgovernance”, which h said is typified by senseless killing of innocent Nigerians and harassment of opposition elements.

A National Executive Committee ( NEC) member of the PDP from Kwara state, Hon. Ahmed Yinka Aluko, has defectedto the All Progressive Congress( APC).

Aluko, who was the deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 elections resigned his elective position and membership of PDP during the party’ s NEC meeting yesterday.

The former Special Adviser on Security matters in Kwara State accused the opposition of impunity and undemocratic practices.

Aluko said he was irked by the decision of PDP National leadership to hand over the structure to Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He said: ” It is therefore shocking that the party at the national level has resolved to hand over the party structures and all electable positions to defectors without any regards for those who stood by the party and built it Into a strong winning machine in Kwara. It is even more shocking that as the only national officer from Kwara state I was not consulted”.

This National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae.

He said: “We must be wary of those who will come to scatter us by trying to sow seeds of discord, spread fake news and adopt divisible measures to achieve their sinister motive”, Falae added

PoliticsTwo Brothers Contest For Same Seat In Katsina Senatorial Seat by Princsk1(op): 5:53am On Jul 31, 2018
By Nigeria Happenings

The intense politicking to replace the deceased lawmaker in the Senate, late Senator Mustapha Bukar, has now set two brothers on a collision course.

The brothers, a serving member in the Green Chamber, Honourable Ahmed Babba Kaita and his brother, Kabir Babba Kaita, a retired Comptroller of Customs and former lecturer with the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria.

Both of them are from the same family house in Kankia, Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina state.

While Ahmed has pitched his tent with the All Progressive Congress Party, APC, his brother, Kabir has joined the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to realise their ambition.

Ahmed Babba Kaita, a serving member of the House of Representatives emerged from a keenly contested APC primary with 1,723 votes to defeat his closest rival and colleague in the Green Chamber, Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura who scored 1,474 votes.

Similarly, Kabir Babba Kaita, under the PDP, emerged through a consensus where his rival for the primary election, Mani Nasarawa, withdraw from the contest.

It would be recalled that, INEC has scheduled the 11th of August, 2018 for the bye-election to hold in the 12 council areas of the zone.

However, some analysts advised the ruling APC to put its acts together as the opposition party PDP may spring surprises to get the seat.

They advised the APC not to go to bed as there was still much to be done despite the election being a family affairs.

Speaking in an interview, Shittu S. Shittu, the state APC Chairman, has called on all party members and stakeholders, especially those defeated at the primary to rally round the party’s candidate to ensure success.

He requested all eligible voters to ensure full registration and obtain their voter’s card to enable them elect the party candidate during the forthcoming bye-election in the zone.

Saraki, Dogara Reacts Over Plot to Impeach Gov Ortom

By NIGERIA HAPPENINGS

Obas Adekunle, Abuja

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have described the on-going situation in Benue State which eight out of 30 lawmakers in the house of Assembly commence to impeach the sitting Governor of the state as “a desecration of the legislative sanctity”,

In a statement jointly signed by Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu, and Special Adviser (Media and Public Affairs to Speaker, House of Representatives) Turaki Hassan, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the police to order and stop them being used to achieve political purposes.

“We have monitored closely the development in Benue State in which the impeached Speaker, Terkimbir Ikyange, led seven other members to serve impeachment notice on the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, while the 22 other members who constitute more than two-third majority have been prevented from having access to the chamber. We believe this is illegality and does not conform to parliamentary procedure on impeachment.

“We also note with surprise the role of the Police in this undemocratic event in which the minority is seeking to impeach a Governor against the position of the majority. We believe it is the sacred institution of the legislature that is being desecrated and rubbished in all these negative developments.

“The situation in Benue State House of Assembly has grave implication for the nation’s democracy and it represents a throw-back to the period of dictatorship in our country. It also represents how the Nigeria Police are being misused to achieve political end. In a statement recently, the Presidency derisively referred to an era in the past where a minority number of legislators was used to impeach Governors who were unfriendly with the Federal Government. What we are seeing in Benue now is a return to that inglorious era.

“We believe this unlawful and unconstitutional move to impeach Governor Samuel Ortom by a minority should be condemned by all lovers of democracy, at home and abroad. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the police to order and prevent a break-down of law and order. We also call on friends of Nigeria in the international community to lend their voice in condemning the perpetration of illegalities and actions that can subvert our democracy.

“There is already a tense atmosphere in Benue State following the recent killings. Nobody should encourage any action or move which may exacerbate the security situation in the North Central State. As leaders of the Federal legislature, we are ready to work with our colleagues in both chambers of the National Assembly to prevent any attempt to destroy any state legislature or use it to derail democracy”, Saraki and Dogara stated.

PoliticsNigeria Reacts On Game Of Thrones Featuring Bukola Saraki, Other by Princsk1(op): 2:16pm On Jul 29, 2018
Nigeria, in last week has witnessed which has been described as game of Defection, which giants Nigerian politicians are moving from ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the leading opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP).

nghappenings.com has gathered reactions of Nigerians concerning the ongoing game of Defection the politicians are playing.

WINJOBI Abdulafeez, in his reaction described Nigeria politicians as an heavy weight iron ball on a spring moving to and fro.

A pendulum moves from one end to another with a notion, making a sound.

"Nigerian politicians are like pendulum, they move from one party to another for the sake of relevance (making sound) but not an impact. They believe in personal gains and eat their vomit anytime to try to defect back to the political party they once bad-mouthed. They defect not for reasons of good governance but for the failure of the political party leaders to fulfill their bidding which fuelled their move to the party in the first instance."

"Many would sympathize with some politicians for being cheated and marginalized, unknown to many that everything they are doing it for personal gains. They left PDP to eat the cakes with APC we voted for them. Are we going to vote the same set of people who for the reason of redeeming themselves from the blame of the current situation of our economy, run to an opposition party? It's important to note that we will be at the receiving end after all. But on another hand, let's tell ourselves the truth.

Until the citizens wake up and disappoint these thieves by refusing their baits, the leaders won't change their ways.

Adeyemi Victor says "For the youths celebrating the defection here and there in the polity, you are the ones I pity most, it's just a normal pre-election year regrouping when the old thieves meet again to negotiate your future and milk you dry."

"The political transfer window is getting more interesting as we are witnessing a mass exodus from the Association of Past Criminals(APC) to the Politically Displaced Persons(PDP)...
2019 is here!"

Sports[VIDEO] Nigeria Coach Salisu Yusuf Caught Taking Bribe by Princsk1(op): 12:02pm On Jul 24, 2018
In a footage recorded in September 2017, Yusuf was offered a sum to influence his selection at the regional championship that was held in Ghana

Sequel to ‘Number 12’ controversy that rocked Ghana football, attention has shifted to its Nigerian counterpart, with Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf the latest caught in the entrapment of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Salisu who led the Nigeria B side to the Wafu Cup of Nations in Ghana was filmed by Anas’ Tiger Eye PI agency in September 2017 collecting cash believed to be $1000 from undercovers, posing as agents in order to influence players’ selection at the tournament.

Also, the former Kano Pillars handler was promised 15% from the players’ contracts should they get snapped up, with the gaffer in turn promising the agents spots for both players at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco.

The players were not named in the footage as Nigeria went all the way to the final, where they were handed a 4-1 defeat by hosts Ghana – their only loss in the competition.

Salisu took the team to CHAN in Morocco earlier this year, where they also finished second behind the hosts. And he was Gernot Rohr’s assistant to the recently concluded World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles were unable to navigate their way past Group D.

The 56-year-old was brought in Sunday Oliseh’s stead after the former Juventus’ player dismissal in 2016.

He masterminded friendly victories over Mali and Luxembourg before the Nigeria Football Federation announced Gernot Rohr as a substantive coach, whom he became his assistant

PoliticsIGP Summon Cannot Stop Me From Defection – Saraki by Princsk1(op): 1:16am On Jul 24, 2018
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that the invitation to him by the police to report to its station over the Offa robbery investigation is an afterthought which is designed to achieve political purpose.

The police in a statement on Monday requested Mr Saraki report at its Guzape station by 8a.m. on Tuesday.

Mr Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he had it on good authority that the police had already decided the suspects to arraign in court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday, Premium reported.

He said the choice of these suspects was based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mohammed U.E., and that the turnaround to invite him was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points.

“I have been reliably informed that the police invitation was planned by IG as a ploy to stop an alleged plan by some Senators and House of Representatives members from defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also said that if I was detained between Tuesday and Wednesday, that will abort the so-called defection plan.
“While I continue to maintain that the issue of my position on the 2019 elections is not a personal decision for me alone to make, it should be noted that all these concoctions and evil plot cannot deter me. Those behind this fresh assault will fail as I have nothing to do with the robbery incident or any criminal matter for that matter.

“I am aware that following a request made by the Police on June 13, 2018 to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Fedeeation had written a legal advice dated June 22, 2018, in which he stated on page 5, paragraph (f) that “For the Senate President and the Kwara State Governor, this office is unable to establish from the evidence in the interim report a nexus between the alleged office and the suspects”.

“The Police have obviously corrupted and politicized their investigations into the Offa robbery incident. They have turned it into an instrument for the party in power to suppress perceived opponents, witchunt issue for blackmailing people from freely choosing which platform on which they want to pursue their ambition and a matter for harassing the people whose exit from APC would harm the chances of the party in the forthcoming elections.

“I want to make it apparent that I have no hand in either the robbery incident or any criminal activity. The Police in their haste to embarrass me sent the invitation to me at 8pm and requested that I report to the station by 8am tomorrow morning. This obviously demonstrated their desperation as I do not see why they are now in a hurry.

“They also stated in today’s letter that because in my response of June 7, 2018 to their own letter written on June 4, 2018, I stated that I was responding simply to the contents of the letter and that the full text of the statement made by the arrested suspects which they claimed indicted me was not made available to me, they were now including the suspects statements in the current letter. Yet, instead of including the suspects’ statements, they only attached two copies of my own letter to the invitation. No suspects statement was made available.

“This plot aimed at compelling me and my associates to stay in a party where members are criminalised without just cause, where injustice is perpetrated at the highest level and where there is no respect for constitutionalism is an exercise in futility and it will fail.

“Once again, my confidence in God and our judicial system remains intact and unshaken. The truth shall also prevail in this case,” Mr Saraki was quoted as saying in the statement.”

PoliticsFayose Won’t Run Away From Nigeria, Not Afraid Of EFCC - Lere Olayinka by Princsk1(op): 12:26pm On Jul 16, 2018
An undaunted Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti State, has said he will not abscond from Nigeria when his immunity from criminal prosecution elapses in October.

“He is not afraid of anything. What are they going to do to him. Is EFCC the court of law?” Mr Fayose’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, spoke during interview.

Mr Fayose, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is slated to hand over power to Kayode Fayemi, who flipped Ekiti State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election, on October 16.
Mr Fayemi defeated Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, Mr Fayose’s deputy and PDP’s candidate, to reclaim the only South-west state held by PDP.

The state was APC until 2014 when Mr Fayemi, then governor from 2010-2014, lost his first reelection bid to Mr Fayose.

Mr Fayose won the June 2014 election in a landslide, defeating Mr Fayemi in all the 16 local government areas of the state.

Mr Fayose’s status as a PDP heavyweight quickly shaped up, especially as the only PDP governor in the Yoruba part of the country. He was later joined by then-Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who defected to the PDP from Labour Party in October 2014.

Mr Olusola-Eleka won in four local governments while Mr Fayemi won in 12 local governments.

Shortly after the election result was announced on Sunday, insinuations filtered that Mr Fayose may flee the country to avoid possible criminal charges as soon as he hands over to Mr Fayemi in three months’ time.

Other critics of the governor were even more brutal, saying he had concluded plans to hand over to his successor and flee the country days before his tenure expires. Hours after Mr Fayemi was declared winner, the anti-graft EFCC posted a tweet threatening to exhume Mr Fayose’s alleged poultry scam case.

Mr Fayose was removed from office on allegations that he looted funds meant for poultry farming in 2006. He was being prosecuted for that scandal and other similar cases of infractions which EFCC linked to while in office at the time.

The EFCC was criticised for the statement, which was taken down a few hours later. The agency, however, clarified later that the matter was never dormant, saying prosecution only stopped because Mr Fayose became a governor.

Mr Olayinka said there was no way the EFCC would be able to pin anything on his principal, whom he said would be willing to turn himself in after leaving office.

“Since 2015 that they started talking about Sambo Dasuki, how many Nigerians have they convicted?” Mr Olayinka said. “That was how they lied that the governor had a property on Gana Street in Maitama and nothing came out of it.”

Mr Olayinka said Ekiti has been “under siege” since the electioneering kicked into full gear two weeks ago in the state, a situation he said persisted even after the federal government had its favourite person as winner.

“The governor will hand over when the day comes in October,” Mr Olayinka said. “And if it is necessary that he should go to the EFCC for questioning after leaving office, he will go and meet them.”

BusinessWhy Nigeria May Stop Power Supply To International Customers by Princsk1(op): 9:45am On Jul 11, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has joined operators in the power sector to call on international customers who receive electricity from Nigeria to either pay their bills or be disconnected.

Nigeria sells power to the Republics of Togo, Niger and Benin, and classifies the West African countries as international customers.

Officials at the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, told our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday that the international customers, who pay for the power they receive from Nigeria in dollars, owed the country, a development that had increased the financial indebtedness to the power generation companies.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who, however, revealed that Buhari was working hard to ensure that the electricity debts by the country’s neighbours were cleared.

Fashola stated that he had also directed the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company to go ahead and collect its money from the international customers.

He noted that the government had issued letters to the countries involved, adding that Nigeria would disconnect those who fail to comply as endorsed by Buhari.

The minister said, “We issued disconnection notices and that is why I’m asking the NBET to go and collect your money because we have duties, obligations and international agreements with them as brother and sister nations. But that does not mean they will not pay us if they are defaulting. So, we have issued letters to them to pay their bills, and from time to time, they pay.

“There was a time one head of state came to visit President Buhari and little did I know that the real reason he came was to come and tell him that the (power) sector had issued a notice of disconnection to his country. And you may be interested to know that President Buhari simply told him to go and pay, otherwise we will disconnect you because we are also paying at home.”

Fashola also stated that he recently received the minister of power from Niger and both of them discussed issues bordering on the payment of electricity bills to Nigeria.

He said, “International customers, yes we have delays in payment and I think that’s a fair thing to say. Our international customers are government agencies and governments of Niger, Togo and the Republic of Benin. So, it takes some time and even on our own side, we know what it takes to get approvals, to process things and so on.

“You may be aware that the minister of power for Niger Republic was here to see me on Thursday or Friday, and these were some of the issues we had to discuss. And we also discussed the need for them to transfer the rights under their old agreement, which they made with the PHCN to NBET. So from time to time, we get the monies from international customers and we pay the power generation companies.”

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Thursday, stated that Ndigbo were committed to ensuring that they occupy the nation’s highest seat of power (Aso Rock) in 2023.

He said come 2019, the South-east zone would massively vote in President Muhammadu Buhari for second term in office, so as to enable the region have its turn in 2023.

Kalu said this during an interview with newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

He assured that the people of Abia state would give APC 75 per cent votes in the 2019 general elections, vowing that nothing can stop the Igbo from producing Nigeria’s President come 2023.

According to Kalu, “We are committed to basic democracy, where we have one man on vote. And I have promised you people before the media, that President Buhari will make 75 per cent in Abia, and in South-East as a whole, he will make 61 per cent.

“Nothing will stop it, because, the governor in Anambra state, Buhari was very benevolent to him. And he will reciprocate to our call in 2019.

“We will show to the people that South-east zone is committed to APC, and we are committed to form the next government. So, Igbos should expect presidency in 2023.”
