Travel › Osun River Rises, Destroys Property Worth Millions (photos) by Princsk1(op): 8:12am On Sep 01, 2019 |
THERE is tension in Osogbo as a sudden increase in Osun river which escapes from its course in great volume and flows over adjoining lands in no regular channel. The new development has displaced hundreds of residents, destroyed and cart away property worth millions of Naira. Some of the affected area as at the time of filing these reports include Gbodofon community, Awosuru area, Baruwa Area, and Ibu-Amo community of Osogbo, Osun State. According to victim’s account, the surge which displaced Baale of Ibu-amo from his house started around 5PM on Friday which later turned to torrent flood which followed their vacation from the area. It was gathered that the river surge could not allow the resident of the area to haul some of there belongings to a safer location. A shop owns by a carpenter has been wrecked and properties worth millions was destroyed with it, an eyewitness revealed. Kamoru Omolade, a mechanic said the flood has charted away A car, engines worth 750,000 naira, and has destroyed engines and some small buses which the water could not move away. Kamoru, while speaking narrated, “It was just like a play when we noticed the surge in the river and it was reached my chest before I could move some of the engines that customers brought to me for servicing.” At Baruwa area, the river surge started in the midnight on Frida and sipped into living apartments which caused people living along the street which is very close to the bank of the Osun River to start evacuating their personal belongings out of their houses. Most affected were residents who have just finished completing their personal houses. Eyewitnesses stated that the whole problem started in the midnight when residents were awoken by flood waters which started flowing into their houses. Alhaji Moshood Adigun, a resident stated that, they never knew Osun River could overflow to that extent that it would wreck havwreak living quarters. He stated that most of the house owners did not erect their houses near the river bank as most had taken time to build in safer areas. Another resident, who identify identifiedas Mummy Precious stated that it was an unfortunate situation that such happened but that relevant authorities should come to their aid as there was little they could do to salvage the situation. In her words, “we are calling on government t to help us. What happened has happened but what we need now is help. “Government should help us. We are not planning to relocate but we need help”. Already many sympathisers have started to theorise that probably a dam had burst upriver, a situation which made the river to overflow its banks and others maintained that the problem had been increasing from year to year and it will still get worse next year if nothing is done to prevent a reoccurrence. It could be noted that a similar flood had ravaged Osogbo after a heavy downfall in July, 2010 with attendant loss of lives and properties worth millions of Naira. https://happeningsng.com/flooding-fears-surge-as-osun-river-rise/

How the principal’s office was invaded four times within a month in a secondary school at Moniya, Ibadan. SUSPECTED robbers have carted away valuables property belonging to public primary and secondary schools in Oyo State, due to the inability of the schools’ management to pay for the services of security guards.
There are 324 secondary schools and 1,576 public primary schools in the state.
Governor Seyi Makinde, had, while deliverying his inaugural speech on May 29, directed that all forms of payment in public primary and secondary schools ceased with immediate effect.
This left the schools without running funds to pay their bills.
Tales of incessant attacks on schools’ properties were narrated by senior officials in the affected schools, who pleaded anonymity.
It was learnt that if nothing is done by the government to inject funds into the school system before pupils’ resumption in September, the public schools may witness very low academic activities.
It was gathered that the public schools became the target of attacks by hoodlum following the forced withdrawal of security guards.
Besides, it was gathered that most private teachers hired through the contributions of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) were still owed salaries since June.
The night guards were said to have been relieved of their jobs after Makinde announced the abolition of payment of the fees.
When contacted, the Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adediran, blamed the immediate past administration for the problems in the education sector.
He said the Makinde administration, having inherited the problems, “is working to fix them”.
Although he was furious with the question on the invasion of schools by suppected robbers, Adediran said the government has pledged to give running grants to public schools.
According to the SUBEB Chairman, the grants would have to be factored into the budget to enable the concerned agencies disbursed it.
Before now, pupils in public schools paid N1000 per term each under the education policy of Schools’ Governing Boards (SGBs) of Senator Abiola Ajimobi administration. The N1000 fees were domiciled in the accounts of the schools for their smooth-running.
A teacher, who spoke in confidence, narrated how the principal’s office was invaded four times within a month in a secondary school at Moniya, Ibadan.
The source stated that such a case had never happened in the history of the school when it was enjoying the services of security guards. Read more: https://happeningsng.com/suspected-robbers-cart-away-valuables-in-oyo-govts-schools/Cc lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Seun OAM4J |

THE Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to reports that Nigerian politicians are afraid to travel abroad following threats of assault by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Recall that the former deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, was attacked by some IPOB members in Germany a few weeks ago. This has heightened cautiousness among politicians concerning their safety abroad.
According to him, Amaechi divulged that he is not afraid and would ‘defend’ himself if attacked.
While speaking on Tuesday with newsmen, he said, “What do you mean by that? Scared of who? I’m going to Geneva, let them come. You know there is something called self-defence? Abegi!”
“I will go to America or a place I have a function to attend to. The solution is not in attacking the politicians”.
Speaking on the solution to Nigeria’s problem which he believes should be followed instead of attacking politicians, Amaechi stated that the Nigerian economy has to be changed from consumption to production economy.

Nairaland General › FRAUD ALERT: CBN Warns Nigerians Over ‘Fraudulent’ Loan Offers [See How] by Princsk1(op): 10:37am On Aug 27, 2019*. Modified: 11:07am On Aug 27, 2019 |
THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned the general public against fraudulent messages in the social media circles requesting unsuspecting loan seekers and owners of small-scale businesses to apply for loans.
The fraudsters behind these, claim that the loans are provided by the Federal Government through an e-mail address (empowermentcbnloan@gmail.com) purportedly being handled by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
A statement signed by Mr Isaac Okorafor, Director, Corporate Communications at CBN on Monday noted that while the CBN, indeed, has several development finance intervention programmes from which different categories of businesses have benefitted (and still benefit), the Bank does not do so through direct interaction with prospective applicants.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there are clearly spelt out procedures for accessing CBN intervention funds, which are disbursed through Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs), such as Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Microfinance Banks (MFBs),” the statement read in part.
The CBN, therefore, advises members of the public, particularly youth and owners of small-scale businesses, to disregard any message requesting them to send their personal details, including mobile phone numbers, to emails such as empowermentcbnloan@gmail.com or any other one that may be contrived. These messages it stated, are fake and anyone who enters into correspondence with them does so at his or her own risk.
Prospective applicants are advised to approach their respective banks or the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch nearest to them for clarification on the procedure for accessing any of the CBN-related loans . https://happeningsng.com/fraud-alert-cbn-reveals-new-fraudulent-loan-offers-see-how/Cc lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Seun OAM4J

Politics › Nigerians Criticise Interior Minister, Aregbesola’s Credentials by Princsk1(op): 6:13pm On Aug 24, 2019 |
NIGERIANS on social media during the week bemoaned the credentials of President Muhammadu Buhari’s minister.
Happenings NG had published the credentials of the then minister-designate to ascertain their befitting ministries which was reposted on Nairaland.
However, before the president allotted portfolio to his ministers on Wednesday members took to the platform to express their disdain.
This also continued till Thursday and generated over lots of comments.
While some flayed Buhari for appointing those alleged of corruption in the past as ministers, others queried the credentials of his ministers.
Meanwhile, the immediate past governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola received the most bashing as result of his credentials.
A nairaland user, @Mikefem said Aregbesola as no cognate work experience even in the engineering field- either public or private and yet might be assigned works ministry.
According to his credential, the former governor of Osun state, has no work experience before his appointment as commissioner in Lagos state in 1999 and has never successfully managed a company.
Another user said, “Look at Aregbesola's profile. No cognate work experience even in the engineering field- either public or private and yet might be assigned works ministry. Just politics!
@leksonltd — “Some of these guys have very disappointing credentials. What qualification does Adamu Adamu have to head Education ministry. In as much as like certain things about these people, I don't celebrate mediocrity."
Another who commented blamed Buhari for “recycling former looters” adding that Nigerian should not be expecting wonder in the administration
The user said, “The ministerial appointment is just a reward system, not a call to service. He who expects nothing from no one is never disappointed.”
@paix said, “The list does not surprise me one bit. After a long wait, this is the best Buhari can present as a list of ministers. Well, Buhari can only eat the meals his KITCHEN CABINET cooked for him. How I wish, I can just press a button to fast forward this regime to its end. Famodun said, he sympathised and empathised with the entire PDP family over the death of the three eminent members of their party within a period of three weeks.
He hinted that it is only God, the author and finisher of the mortals’ faith who determines when human beings are launched into the world that equally has the supreme power and authority to determine the exit time.
The party chairman stated that this world can be likened to a proverbial market place where human beings get to and leave at different times.
He said that as it is definite for a market patron to leave when he finishes his transactions, so it is imperative for all mortals to die at God-appointed time.
Famodun prayed to God to grant the families, wellwishers, and friends of the fallen PDP politicians, the necessary impetus to bear the irreparable loss of their dear ones. https://happeningsng.com/osun-pdp-morns-3-bigwigs-within-a-week/Cc lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Seun OAM4J |

Politics › Shiites Speaks On El-zakzaky ‘Seeking Asylum’ In India by Princsk1(op): 4:51pm On Aug 18, 2019*. Modified: 5:09pm On Aug 18, 2019 |
THE Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN has described a recent statement credited to the Federal Government that its leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky had wanted to seek asylum in India before his repatriation as part of a campaign of calumny by the government to cover its own gross misconduct in a foreign land.
This was made known in a press statement Sent to HAPPENINGS NG today by Ibrahim Musa, president Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
The Islamic Movement further accused the Federal Government of mischievously going beyond its role of supervision to the level of maliciously interfering in the medical process, instructing on which doctors the Sheikh and his wife must see, while refusing to allow them access to their own doctors, which confirms the allegation that the government had wanted to kill the Sheikh in the name of medical treatment.
“Before efforts at resolving this impasse could be concluded, the Sheikh was brought back to Nigeria, since their evil schemes could not be executed. The government is now churning out contradictory explanations to blame the Sheikh for not allowing himself to be killed in the name of medical treatment. The Nigerian government is also blackmailing the Sheikh that he sought for asylum in India just to cover their own gross misconduct in a foreign land,” according to the press statement.
Below is the press statement:
RE: The Repatriation Of IBRAHEEM ZAKZAKY From India - The Facts
Sequel to the Nigerian government’s sinister operation that frustrated the treatment of the revered Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) and his wife Malam Zeenat Ibrahim in India that led to the repatriation of the couple, the Nigerian government, in its effort to deceive the general public, has concocted contradictory statements and lies to color its acts of violating the order given by the Kaduna High court allowing the Sheikh to seek treatment in India, with the government only supervising.
The facts are that the government mischievously went beyond its role of supervision to the level of maliciously interfering in the medical process, instructing on which doctors the Sheikh and his wife must see, while refusing to allow them access to their own doctors. Apparently, the government had a hidden mission, the details of which they had detailed specific doctors to execute. The Sheikh was forced to either accept their choice or return home within two hours.
Being mindful of the government’s various previous plots to eliminate him since 2015, first through the barrels of the gun and much later through poisoning in detention while refusing him access to adequate medical care until the court's intervention, the Sheikh sensed the government’s intention of inducing killer doctors to finish what they had earlier started, now through the back door. He therefore insisted on having the presence of the doctors that initially assessed him in Nigeria, who also worked in that hospital, failing which, he preferred to return to Nigeria.
He refused to be subjected to any breach in the basic ethical principles guiding the medical treatment of people of respect for persons: protecting the autonomy of all people and treating them with courtesy and respect and allowing for informed consent, which the Nigerian government had contracted medical personnel in the Indian hospital to throw to the wind.
Before efforts at resolving this impasse could be concluded, the Sheikh was brought back to Nigeria, since their evil schemes could not be executed. The government is now churning out contradictory explanations to blame the Sheikh for not allowing himself to be killed in the name of medical treatment. The Nigerian government is also blackmailing the Sheikh that he sought for asylum in India just to cover their own gross misconduct in a foreign land.
The campaign of calumny has been championed by the Federal Ministry of Information, which sarcastically even said they were apologising to India for the Sheikh's "unruly behaviour" rather than for their own obvious attempted assassination of somebody in another country!
Isn't it rather contradictory that someone allegedly seeking asylum would be unwilling to stay back irrespective of the circumstances but preferring instead to return to his home country. It is on record that it was the Sheikh who requested to be brought back home having been denied access to his doctors and rejecting the killer squad engaged to "treat" him instead.
The government's claim that Sheikh’s wife antagonized the Nigerian officials by accusing them of killing her three children is yet another spurious search for justification for its maltreatment of the couple. Isn't it true that it is the government that killed her three sons when its army invaded their residence at night in December 2015? Wasn't her husband dragged over the corpses of their murdered children having been shot himself and left swimming in his own pool of blood? Wasn't she also shot and left lying lifeless in the process? Were they expecting a cheer from her for all these severe gross violation of their fundamental rights, even as judged by a competent federal court?
It is rather very shameful and a slap in the face of Nigeria that the government which hitherto claimed it had no hand in the case, now has to resort to lies, calumny and blackmail against a couple whose alleged crimes has never ever been proved in any court of the land. All the allegations against this couple have always been merely spurious and unproven, and knowing that they could never prove in any court use the might of state power to intimidate and misinform the public.
It is noteworthy to state that the government is yet to respond to the confessions by the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince that they sponsored the Zaria genocide and the subsequent continued detention of the Sheikh in Nigeria. This same fact was earlier alluded to by President Muhammadu Buhari during a state visit to Qatar. The world is watching all the persecution of the Islamic leader with keen interest. The government can never change the narrative.
We wish to thank the general public for their continued understanding and show of support in all these. No amount of feeding the public with concocted half-truths, lies and campaigns of calumny would swerve the course of justice for all the victims of Zaria genocide and its aftermath. https://happeningsng.com/shiites-speaks-on-el-zakzaky-seek-asylum-in-india/Cc lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Seun |
