A 22 year-old man in the United Kingdom fatally stabbed himself in the chest testing a supposedly stab-proof vest he was wearing.

According to an inquest, Jordan Easton was in the kitchen at one of his friend’s parents on August 23 last year – just five days after his 22nd birthday – when he turned a knife on himself to demonstrate the “stab-proof” nature of his vest.
He suffered a chest stab wound, and died at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton.



Mr Easton was rushed to hospital, said Teesside assistant coroner, Karin Welsh, but “despite the best efforts of the medical professionals, they were unable to save him.” Although his injuries were “self-inflicted,” there was no evidence Mr Easton intended to harm himself.

A police investigation was launched, but no further action was taken.

Detective Superintendent Ted Butcher, from Cleveland Police’s major investigation team, confirmed various witnesses and Jordan’s family had been spoken to.

He agreed with the coroner’s assertion that “while Jordan may have had his issues in the past, he seemed to have settled down”.

DSI Butcher confirmed that all the witnesses gave consistent accounts about what happened – subsequently borne out by toxicology and other reports.

Mr Easton had died after “a boisterous act,” added DSI Butcher.

Jordan’s devastated mum Alison Price told the inquest she found it “hard to believe the concept that Jordan would consciously do that”.

She said: “It’s more possible if it was bravado, showing off in front of lads, but where a mother and a young girl were, it’s out of character for him. I can’t absorb it.” Recording a verdict of misadventure, Ms Welsh blamed it on “the foolishness of youth”.

Ms Welsh told family members: “I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through.”

Mr Easton’s friends paid tribute to a “one of a kind kid” and “a character.”

“Everyone on the estate got on with him and loved him,” said one childhood friend.

Moses Ochei of Fellyx & Mozzyx fame is said to have died from chronic kidney failure.

According to The Sun, Moses died on the night of Saturday, June 16, 2018. Before his death, Moses was a member of the now defunct music duo Fellyx & Mozzyx.



His death his coming just a week after another veteran musician Ras Kimono also passed on after he complained of feeling down.



Moses has had a long battle with Kidney disease. In a 2011 interview, he detailed how he knew he was suffering from the ailment.

“My body started to swell up initially and I thought I was getting fat, but later discovered that it was not normal. Then, when I pressed my body, it was like a loaf of bread soaked in water.



About two years ago. I was first admitted to a Lagos hospital from where I was transferred to another to get life support. So, while that was going on, I knew that I would need a kidney transplant.



At that point I remembered the late Steve Kadri as I didn’t have that kind of money, because I have a wife and two children and I was an employee,” he told PM News.

Reacting to the allegation yesterday, the Police in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, said: ‘’The Nigeria Police Force is shocked at the unbelievable claims, unverifiable allegations and unfounded accusations being peddled against the IGP by the Senate President, accusing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, of plot and strategies against him to settle scores.

‘’The Force, therefore, wishes to categorically state that there is no iota of truth in the allegation and false assertion by the Senate President of plot against him by the IGP to implicate the Kwara State government and the Senate President in any criminal matter.

“Until investigation is concluded, any person (s) or group(s) who tries to interfere in the investigation process by action or utterances is committing an offence.

“To set the records straight, the Kwara State Police Command on May 11, 2018, paraded the following suspects before the media and the public. They include Abolaji Safti Ojulari of Kankatu area, Ilorin; Lanre Mohammed Soliu a.k.a Askari of Ile Nda Compound, Ilorin; Azeez Moyaki of Moyaki Compound, Gambari Area Ilorin; Suleiman Babatunde of Gambari Area, Ilorin; Yusuf Habeeb of Kangile Village, Kulende, Ilorin; Umar Yahaya of Kangile Village, Kulende, Ilorin.

“The suspects admitted and confessed before the press and the public to have killed eleven (11) innocent persons in Kwara State and other states of the country. The victims according to the suspects were targeted and killed on the instructions of their sponsors.

“Consequent upon the public confessions of these vicious and notorious killer squad to the killings in cold blood of more than 11 innocent people in Kwara State and other states of the Federation, the statutory procedure and practice in the Force is that such a heinous crime and capital offence is transferred to the Force Headquarters for further investigation. This is to enable a thorough and discreet investigation into the crime.

“However, it is pertinent to state that there is no vested interest by the Inspector General of Police in the ongoing investigation into the several murders committed by this killer gang, other than ensuring that justice prevails in the matter. Nobody, no matter how highly placed would be allowed to interfere or obstruct Police investigation to pervert the course of justice.

“It is also imperative to let the public know that last year, suspects arrested over the mayhem and killings of innocent people in Ile-Ife, Osun State and those arrested in Southern Kaduna crisis in Kaduna State and suspects arrested in connection with Zaki-biam killings in Benue State were all transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigation before they were arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction.

“Therefore, transferring this hired assassin gang masquerading as cultists in Kwara State to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for further investigation is in accordance with Police investigation procedures.

“It is also important to underscore that the statement credited to the Senate president can dissuade and discourage living victims/deceased families of those who must have been killed by this vicious hired assassin gang from coming forward to give evidence against them.

Muslims around the world are preparing for the commencement of the Holy period of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calender known as the Hijri calendar.

The month before Ramadan is called Sha’baan. Each Islamic month is either twenty-nine or maximum thirty days. Where the new moon (that of Ramadan) is sighted on the 29th of Sha’baan (May 15), Muslims are expected to commence fasting the next day.



Those that do not sight it are to complete the thirtieth day of Sha’baan and automatically start Ramadan the next day – in this case on Thursday May 17, 2018.

In Nigeria for instance, the leader of the Muslims the Sultan of Sokoto Sheikh Sa’ad Abubakar has tasked the faithful to look out for the new moon. Reports in Ghana indicate that the national chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, has asked the faithful to commence fasting on Wednesday.

They are also encouraged to engage in more charity work while they fast to bring them closer to God and remind them of the suffering of the less fortunate.

The common greetings during the month is “Ramadan Mubarak” and “Ramadan Kareem”, wishing the recipient a “blessed” and generous Ramadan.

At the end of the 29 or 30 days of fasting, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr which literally means “festival of breaking the fast” in Arabic.

On the day, Muslims attend a special prayer in the morning at outdoor locations or mosques. The prayer consists of a sermon followed by the short congregational prayer.

President Muhammad Buhari has flagged-off the trimming of age long Typha grass from the Hadejia river valley in Jigawa State.



The president, who was in Jigawa for a two day working visit, arrived the state capital at 9:58a.m. and was treated to a reception by the Jigawa and Kano States Governors, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar and Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, respectively. President Buhari expressed disappointment with the manner with which he was prevented from meeting the people directly despite their efforts to troop to the occasion to see him.

Buhari, who spoke in ‘Hausa’ at the Hadejia emirs palace, said: “I was enveloped in a dark vehicle which prevented the large number of people from seeing me. I also saw the disappointment on their faces when they could not even guess the vehicle that conveyed me.

“I hope when I’m going back they would put me in an open vehicle so my people will see me and I can also wave at them.”



The president, who, on arrival in the morning, immediately boarded a helicopter which conveyed him to Auyo, where he commissioned dredging process of the river canal.

The project was first awarded in 1981 and had since been abandoned by successive governments. When dredged, the canals are expected to provide enough water for irrigation purposes and other domestic use.

He also proceeded to commission 114 kilometre Guri-Tasheguwa-Abunabo Road construction work awarded at the cost of over N11 billion by the state government.

In the class syllabus, students’ “dress” is one of the course requirements.

The Nigeria police have spurned the resolution of the senate, describing it as deliberate blackmail, witch-hunting, unfortunate and mischievous; and vowed not to be intimidated.

Police see the Senate’s resolution declaring the Inspector-General of Police ( I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, as enemy of democracy as a deliberate attempt to blackmail him.

The force noted that the I-G and the Nigeria Police Force would not be deterred by blackmail from any individual or group no matter how highly placed from the enforcement of Law and Order.

“The Nigeria Police Force, therefore, owes no apology to any individual or groups in its effort to ensure preservation of law and order and supremacy of the law of the land, “ Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood said on Wednesday.

Moshood implored the public to disregard and discountenance the resolution of the Senate on the I-G.

“The Nigeria Police Force as a law abiding organization will continue to hold the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria in high esteem but wishes to impress on the Senate not to harbour criminal elements among its fold or condone criminality.

“The Force will not be intimidated by any individual, groups or institution, constituent or otherwise to abdicate from its constitutional responsibilities of protection of lives and property,” he said.

The senate at plenary on Wednesday, declared the Idris as enemy of democracy and unfit to hold any public office within and outside the country for failing to honour its invitation thrice.

The senate had refused the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of operations and other senior police officers to represent the I-G when he was invited on April 26.

Moshood, in a statement in Abuja, explained that under the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations, the I-G could delegate a Deputy or Assistant Inspector-General of Police to represent him in an official capacity at any function.

He explained that Idris sent representatives because he was on an official assignment with the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria to Bauchi on same date.

” The delegated Officers went with a brief of the Inspector-General of Police on the matter to the senate but the Senate refused to listen to the Officers.

He said that again on May 2, the senate refused to accord some senior officers delegated to represent the I-G when he was on an official duty to Birnin-Gwari area of Kaduna state.

The spokesman said that the I-G on May 8, sent a letter to the President of the Senate explaining why he would not be appearing before the Senate on May 9.

This he said was due to legal restraint as a result of pending cases before the courts filed by Sen. Dino Melaye against the I-G and the Nigeria Police Force.

“It is pertinent that the Force informs the members of the Public that other reasons for which the Senate has summoned the Inspector-General of Police is official and not personal.

The action of the Senate in its resolution against the I-G today is a deliberate blackmail, witch-hunting with mischievous motives to hand-twist the I- G to pervert the end of Justice.

“The Nigeria Police Force is the first defender of democracy and all democratic institutions in Nigeria and will continue to do so.

” It is factual and verifiable that Sen. Dino Melaye was discharged and certified fit to stand trial by the National Hospital, Abuja before he was arraigned in Chief Magistrate Courts in Wuse,

The Nigerian police said they have smashed two gun running and arms dealing ring and a gang of robbers and kidnappers in the Benue-Taraba axis, making 11 arrests.

Among the suspects arrested was one Miracle Emmanuel, a 27 year-old gun dealer from Anambra, based in Takum, Taraba state. With his three-man gang, the police found five Ak-47 rifles, along with other ammunitions.

Police said they recovered in total 10 AK 47 rifles and two Beretta pistols from the 11 suspects paraded today at the Benue police headquarters in Makurdi and claimed the arrests were a major breakthrough in stopping the incessant killing of innocent people in the Middle Belt states of Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa.

In Benue state, Morris Ashwe, 36 years old from Mbajima Village Katsina Ala LGA, was the sole armourer arrested. He was accused of supplying arms to the wanted criminal kingpin, Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Ghana.

According to Jimoh Moshood, Ashwe was found in possession of five AK 47 rifles, 238 AK47 bullets, 40 Smoke Grenade Canisters and 79 LAR Rifle bullets.

The busted gun dealing gang in Taraba state comprised Takum-based Kabiru Idris, 43, Miracle Emmanuel from Anambra state, said to be a principal suspect and gang leader. Also arrested was Husseini Safiyanu, also from Taraba.

Police said they found five AK47 Rifles with the Taraba gang, along with 13 AK 47 magazines and 83 bullets.

The Police spokesman also said a seven-man robbery and kidnapping gang was arrested in Benue, along with two Beretta pistols. The gang was on its way to kidnap a prominent person in Makurdi, the state capital.

Members of the gang were identified as Emmanuel Ushehemba Kwembe, 28, Achir Gabriel, 30, all from Ushongo LGA, Sekad Uver, 28, from Koshisha LGA Benue State and Ordure Fada, 22, from Kwande LGA.

Others arrested were Stephen Jirgba 18, from Vande kya LGA, Peter Lorham, 24, from Kinshisha LGA and Lorhemen Akwambe 35, who hails from Guma LGA.

“The renewed strategies adopted by the Nigeria Police Force to stop the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians and curtail the proliferation of firearms across the country, most especially in the North-Central States have been yielding positive results”, the police spokesman said.

“The IGP Intelligence Response Team and the Police Special Forces mandated by the IGP to work with Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba State Commands, in the last two weeks arrested the 11 suspects mentioned above within Benue and Taraba States and recovered from them were Ten (10) AK47 Rifles and other assorted firearms and ammunition.

” In the first two cases, the suspects confessed to have been responsible for supply of AK47 rifles and other firearms and ammunition to armed bandits, militias, and criminal herdsmen/farmers in Benue and Taraba States.

” The first suspect, Morris Ashwe confessed and admitted to have been supplying firearms and ammunition to the notorious and most wanted vicious and notorious gang leader of militia, murderers and kidnappers Terwase Akwaza aka Ghana.

Akwaza was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force last year March over the killings of many innocent persons at Zaki Biam and the wanton destruction of properties worth Millions of Naira.

He is also wanted for other violent crimes such as the killing of Mr. Deneen Igbana, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor of Benue State.

The police said the Kabiru Idris gang confessed to have been supplying AK47 rifles and other firearms and ammunition to militia groups, armed bandits and other criminals in Taraba and Benue States, who they admitted have been attacking and killing innocent people in villages in Taraba and Benue States.

As for the kidnappers, whose mission was aborted, the police said their arrest was made possible from intelligence gathered by the IGP Intelligence Response Team.

The police said the gangsters have admitted to have been responsible for several kidnappings in Benue, Taraba and Some part of Nasarawa State in the recent past.

“Investigation is being strengthened to arrest other suspects at large. All suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

” The deployment of additional 15 Police mobile Force units to augment the strength of the Benue State Police Command has beefed-up security in the State and help in sustaining the peace that have been restored to the state”, Moshood said.

A single mother, Ezechi Nwanneka, has been arrested by the police in Enugu for allegedly selling her baby boy for N300,000.

The boy, who has not been recovered, was reportedly resold for N350,000 by one Okechukwu Nyia, who bought the baby from Nwanneka, the mother.

Nwanneka, a native of Akama Oghe village, in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have been impregnated by an unidentified person.

Following the development, the lady left her family house for an unknown destination, and in November 2017, she announced that she has been delivered of a baby boy.

However, the said baby boy was not shown to her family members, who became suspicious when she reappeared without the child.

Nwanneka’s parents informed the police and investigation revealed that the baby had been sold to Nyia for N300,000.

Spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said investigation further revealed that the buyer, Nyia, later resold the baby to a yet to be identified person.

“The suspects are helping police operatives in their investigation concerning a yet to be identified suspect whom Okechukwu Nyia allegedly sold the baby boy to at the rate of N350,000,” Amaraizu added.

The police spokesman vowed that the Command was determined to apprehend the yet to be identified buyer and recover the missing boy.

In another development, a mother of three, Uwakwe Nkechi, has reportedly attempted suicide in Enugu by taking rat poison.

Nkechi, who resides at Umuezeoha Ojotta, Awkunanaw, in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have attempted to take her life due to some unspecified ‘differences’ between her and her husband.

Amaraizu explained that the incident, which occurred on April 24, had been brought to the attention of the police.

He further revealed that Nkechi was rushed to a hospital in the Uwani area of Enugu, where doctors saved her life.
Amaraizu added that the Enugu State Police Command was investigating the incident.

Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has solicited the help of music superstar, Davido, to mobilise Nigerian youths to get their Permanent Voters Cards.



Dankwambo in a tweet on Friday introduced himself to the young singer, who has been trending on the internet in the past week.

The governor then went on to ask Davido to work with him to use his (Davido’s) influence to encourage young people to collect their PVCs.

The governor wrote; “Hello iam_Davido. My name is Ibrahim Dankwambo, Governor of Gombe state. I’m a huge fan of your amazing work and talent. I’d be glad if you can use your massive influence to work together with me in convincing our young people to go get their #PVC.”

The Osun chapter of Peoples Democratic party, PDP, has picked Saturday, July 14, 2018 for its primary election in the state at the party stakeholders’ meeting, held in Osogbo, yesterday.

The newly elected chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, he also said Intention Form for those nursing ambition to fly the party’s flag would be made availabe before end of April.

He hinted this while Addressing the stakeholders of the party across the 30 local government areas and Modakeke Area Office, Adagunodo commended the steadfastness displayed by members during the leadership crises that rocked the party.

He explained that PDP National Working Committee, has directed him to inform members that anyone interested in vying for PDP ticket should forward letter of intention through the office of the state chairman to the Office of the National Chairman on or before 17th April, 2018.

Adagunodo added: “The Intention form shall be made available to the aspirants before the end of this month as our gubernatorial primary holds on Saturday July 14, 2018.”

On the efforts to reconcile aggrieved members, Adagunodo said: “elders and the State Working Committee of the party under my leadership are working tirelessly to set up a powerful reconciliation committee to extend hands of love to members loyal to Dr. Bayo Faforiji. We are very optimistic about this”.
