A 25-YEAR-OLD MAN, Yusuf Isiaka, on Sunday, lost his life at Ishawo area of Lagos, during a fight over the winner of ram betting. Youths in some parts of the country engage in ram betting, whereby two rams are made to fight, at the end of which owner of the winning ram goes home with the amount placed as bet. It was gathered that disagreement that lead to the death of Isiaka started following accusation of cheat on one of the parties, and which resulted in a verbal confrontation between the deceased and one Segun Banji. It degenerated into a fight during which the latter was alleged to have stabbed the former in the left side of his chest, resulting to his death. An eye witness, Biola Idowu, said, “Banjo immediately took to his heels when he realized the magnitude of his deed. Perhaps if Isiaka was rushed to the hospital on time, he might have survived. “Policemen from Owutu who were contacted by an executive of the Oke Oko Community Development Area, arrived the scene. “Officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps, LNSC conducted a search around, thereby leading to the arrest of the fleeing suspect, who resides at 15 Araromi street Oke Oko.” They took the suspect in their patrol van. But they were stopped by some soldiers at a Military base within the area who suggested that the suspect should be kept in their base until the Police arrived to take him. The suggestion was to avoid any likely attack on the LNSC’s officials, as aggrieved friends of the deceased were threatening to avenge the death of their friend.” The suspect was handed over to the police at their arrival”. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on Social Media matters, Lauretta Onochie, has commended the arrest of AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS. Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday. The politician posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 a.m., which reads, “DSS invades Sowore’s.” and later tweeted which could be a confirmation that his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest. Reacting, Onochie on her Twitter page said, DSS saved Sowore from harming himself during his protest. Alongside a picture of a burning man, she wrote, “This is What DSS Saved Sowore from. FORMER National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Muhammad Attahiru Jega and other prominent Nigerians have agreed together to reposition the People’s Redemption Party, PRP. In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of PRP, Abdul Gombe, said Professor Jega is to chair the SWOT analysis Committee of the party. The statement said, “The PRP at its 62nd National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting held on June 22nd in Kaduna decided to set up a 3 (three) committees to review the performance of the party in the 2019 general election with a view to repositioning the party for better performance in facing new challenges of Nigerian politics. “On the basis of a critical analysis of this, the committee made up of some of the best intellectuals in Nigeria will recommend to the party, strategies to adopt for its survival and growth. “The three committees according to the statement are; The SWOT Analysis Committee, Mobilisation Committee, Finance and Funding Committee. “Membership mobilisation committee chaired by person who has been in the PRP for 41 years is to examine and advise the party on how best to grow its membership using the best ever methods bearing in current voters demography in Nigeria. “Finance and funding committee whose membership has business persons will examine current financial status of the PRP and existing funding methodologies as put in the party’s Constitution and suggest how best to make the methodologies work as well as new ways of raising funds to make it a financially stable party with a sustainable operation.” Other persons that made up the three committees included, publisher and chairman of the Trust Newspapers, Malam Kabiru A. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is expected to inaugurate the 43 ministerial nominees recently screened by the Senate after an Induction Retreat slated for August 15-16 in Abuja. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, in a statement on Friday said that following confirmation by the Senate, all Ministers designate are to note that relevant documents for their study and guidance, preparatory to the inauguration of the Cabinet shall be available for collection at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) (Cabinet Affairs Office) from 10.00am on Tuesday August 6, 2019. According to Mustapha, Ministers designate are also requested to bring along and submit to the OSGF, their updated CV in soft and hard copies as well as any valid identification document. “I am pleased to inform you that, in view of the need to allow Ministers designate enough time to study the documents (Status Report on Policies, Programmes and Projects; the 2019-2023 Road Map, and FEC Handbook among others) and considering the upcoming Sallah break, Mr. President has approved an Induction Retreat for Ministers Designate to be held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja from August 15-16, 2019,” he said. A 300-LEVEL STUDENT of Religious and African Studies, Adekunke Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State has been raped by allegedly some men of the 32 Artillery Brigade. HAPPENINGS NG learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening at a military checkpoint between Owo and Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government as the soldiers, who were attached to the Ikare Akoko checkpoint, did the act when the victim was returning home from the campus. A student of the institution, who witnessed the incident, alleged that the soldiers were fond of molesting female students. She said: “We were coming from Akungba in a mini-bus on Wednesday evening. On getting to the checkpoint, a soldier looked inside our vehicle, pointed to the victim and ordered her to get down. We didn’t know why he did that. When the lady alighted, he took her to their mini-barracks and asked us to leave the scene. “Out of fear we left the place, hoping that she would be released immediately, but she was not released until one hour later. We discovered that she had been raped by the soldiers at the checkpoint. “Immediately, we went to Ikare Police Station to report the incident and took the victim to Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko for examination and treatment. She is still in hospital and doctors have confirmed that she was raped.” A source at the Ikare Police Station confirmed that the incident was reported at about 7:15pm on Wednesday, stressing that the police had stepped into the matter. Police spokesman Femi Joseph said he was not briefed on the incident. Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Zakari, said on the phone that he was at a meeting and promised to call back. The AAUA management is investigating the incident. He also instructed her not to sleep with any other man, as he turned her to a sex slave. A VICTIM OF RAPE, (name withheld), has narrated how her friend, Eniola Shittu, (female) conspired with David Peremobowe, her friend’s boyfriend to rape her. The 23-year-old friend Eniola, of Ikopa tuntun Abiola way in Abeokuta was arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command for conspiring with her 31-year-old boyfriend to rape her close friend. The victim narrated that on 24th of July, 2019 at about 1:45pm, her friend Eniola sent message to her on WhatsApp that she should help her to buy food and skushis and bring it to her boyfriend’s house at Somorin area of Obantoko Abeokuta. “On getting there, the boyfriend David Peremobowe offered her a bottle of beer which she took. “But immediately she finished taken the beer, she became very weak as a result of which David Peremobowe unlawfully had her carnal knowledge, and while he was doing it, her friend Eniola Shittu used her phone to do the video recording of how she was being raped. This was contained in a statement Wednesday by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesman. It said the suspects were arrested following a report lodged by the victim at Obantoko Division. “On the strength of her complaint, the DPO Obantoko Division, SP Olasunkanmi Popoola detailed his detectives to the boy’s house where David Peremobowe and his girlfriend Eniola Shittu were promptly arrested. “The Gionee handset with which the video coverage was made was also recovered,” it read.
