Ghostagain: We don't evolve in the same intellectual environment. By the way Albert Einstein is not my model in science, I don't steal other people's work and get famous for that work, also I make less mistakes in my calculations than Albert Einstein did. And finally I'm a mathematician, he was a physicist. I love his human values though. Ok Ghost Again. |

Ghostagain: This is what I don't particularly appreciate with you, you keep being vague. Why not specify which countries instead of saying "some of the countries" ?
Once again you seem confused, I am not your student, you don't get to give me homework. If you have a claim, then kindly prove it yourself. I'm not going to waste my time proving or disproving your own claim. You're confused bro. You said you're not my student and shouldn't give you home work, yet you're doing the same? You funny bro. I have done a bit on this already. Make use of what I provided to support my views on why the US isn't the oldest democracy, you can then continue with me from there if need be. Enjoy your day. |

Ghostagain: To prove that American democracy is the oldest (without referring to official documents which say so), I would need to take every democracy on earth and compare their date of Inception to that of America. You could have simply asked me to provide evidence to my claim, in which case I would have looked for such evidence. Instead you claimed I were wrong. To prove that American democracy is not the oldest in the world, it suffices to just show one democracy which is older, and you failed to perform that simple task. I can be excused for believing that American democracy is the oldest if I were wrong, because it could be that my sources of information were wrong and doing the verification by myself is extremely time consuming, but you came here to say that America is not thr oldest democracy on earth, and you did so without a single older democracy to show.
Also, look, I'm not a student, I write books which specialists and students read, you seem stuck in studenthood. Ok Albert Einstein. |

Ghostagain: Ancient Greece and current Greece are not the same entity. Also you don't seem to understand that we are talking about uninterrupted regimes. The USA democracy of today is the same government as that created roughly 200 years ago. Switzerland... No, check the dates. Finland ... Finland didn't even exist as a country until russian revolution saw it breakaway from Russia.
Dude, you don't understand that for your claim, you have to provide evidence. I'm not in the business of providing evidence for your claims, I have my own claims to prove and many people have claims as well, should I just spend my lifetime proving people's claims or should everybody prove his own claim ? I thought you were smarter than this, but you are a product of your Nigerian environment.
"San Marino Isle of Man Faro Island" I'm pretty sure these are new countries. Some of the countries I listed have more than a 1000 years of pure democracy. (Go and research them all) Assumption doesn't do it here You keep talking about the US without showing any prove. Do you know that women weren't voting in the US until 1920? Do you know that women of colour weren't voting until 1964? Did you know that until late 1960s, some states in the US still didn't allow women vote? Did you know that it took another 40 yrs for men of colour to be allowed to vote in some states in the US? Did you know that the US constitution on the so call democracy wasn't binding on all the states until the 60s+ and took years before all the states agreed to follow the constitution fully? The right to vote and be voted for as a bonfide citizen of a country is the most important virtue of democracy, the absence of that equals no democracy. I will end this here. Not interested in this debate because you're not showing attributes of a good sport. https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/voting-rights-throughout-history/https://www.history.com/news/what-is-the-worlds-oldest-democracyhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_voting_rights_in_the_United_States. |

Ghostagain: @procashtips. When you make a claim, anybody is entitled to ask you for evidence, you are not entitled to ask people to prove your own claim for themselves, especially if you are in opposition with the other person. You are basically in a debate and asking your opponent to side with you in the debate. It is weird that you thought you had a point. Is this how you were taught in France or is it franka? You : Writerng is a Russian Me : You're wrong, kindly correct yourself You: I said he's Russian, you're not expected to ask me to prove that. Me : Really? Now read the above again. I wasn't in any debate with you, I just told you your assertion was wrong and even offered alternatives to your assertion. It's left to a logical person to say, "I'm right, this is why". |

UncleAyo: Kings are charged with custody and protection of the cultural heritage of people they govern. They are also respected elders that can serve as mediator in time of conflict. Protection of cultural heritage but they build churches, mosques inside palace and also do wedding or events in borrowed culture? . Its like the King of England building an IfA shrine in his palace in England |

Ghostagain: It would make more sense if you actually showed me an older democracy than America. That is how a logical argumentation is done. It is not about just making a claim and then expecting everything to fall around your claim. I'm not here to argue with you I just wanted you to correct yourself. Use the internet. (You made the claim, not me, I only disputed your claim that had no evidence attached) There are host of countries older than America when it comes to democracy. Greece Switzerland Iceland Finland San Marino Isle of Man Faro Island (you can prove me wrong by posting evidence of why America is the oldest and not any of the ones I listed above). Do not take my words for it, do your research as a "logical" student you claim to be. Note : When responding, remember the keywords you used "Oldest democracy in the world" |

Ghostagain: You got things messed up, and I have corrected this misconception about democracy several times on this thread. Democracy has nothing to do with "majority rule", don't confuse your Nigerian mindset with logic and situation outside Nigeria. America is the oldest democracy in the world, and since inception they inscripted this rule which gave equal power to states irrespective of demographic comparison between states. It has never been about "popular vote" ! It is actually more logical to not go by popular vote if you want every group to have its say, your Nigerian democracy is just about which group has bigger population or which group Riggs better. While with American democracy, it is about what each group wants, and that will be balanced by giving each group equal power.
In a multiethnic country like Nigeria, it would make much more sense to have a system of voting similar to the USA's. But since most Nigerians are extremely ill educated and don't really understand what democracy means, we have people like you judging America's democracy with the belief that Nigerian "democracy" is the model for all to follow.
I keep correcting this and people keep coming out to remake the same mistake, that is the problem with nairaland and Nigeria in general. This gets me aggravated. America is not the oldest democracy in the world. Kindly correct yourself. |

Culture › Re: Edo State Proverbs In All Dialects With Translation(s) by Procashtips(m): 8:37am On Mar 18, 2024 |
bokohalal: The highly centralized nature of the Benin monarchy has ensured little or no difference in the Edo language by its speakers. Everyone that speak the Edo/Bini language says the same thing. You will however notice some Oza and Iyeke-Orhiomwon accent and this to a very negligible extent. No dialect in Edo language. Some years back,as undergraduates in a Nigerian university, my Esan friend and I were talking up two Esan girls of incredible beauty(Esan girls can be extremely beautiful)and they lapsed into Esan to talk to themselves(the girls). My friend said he did not understand what they were saying. I understood everything. They were speaking,as he said,Igueben. Maybe I can call Igueben a dialect of the Bini language! The Biniman speaks Edo.The word`Benin`or `Bini`is unknown to Edos. The origin has been attributed to Omonoyan(Oranmiyan)to describe the land he sojourned. And some other people say it is Hausa from `Birnin`.No two or more Bini people having a conversation would ever use the words Benin city and Bini. The city is `Oredo`and the language is `Edo`.You were right. Are you sure the Edo language doesn't have dialects? |
