History is good.

But of what significant importance is this information? Will Benin start collecting taxes from Lagos with this information or just for bragging rights?

/
It's to set the records straight.

Some people keep distorting history.

Funny thing is that some of the dullards who insulted the great OBA of Benin are not from Lagos. Man was in Lagos, lectured the governor... nobody asked him questions or countered his claim. He returned to his palace then miscreants went to social media to insult him.

There is no need for useless maps. Dwelling on the past will be useless to me. To think I want to even start the comparison of a very tiny kingdom the size of Ibadan (if we can call it a kingdom sef) Oyo was greater than military and economically.

Oyo's power can be seen in several successful cities across 3 countries still existing today. From Porto Novo and Ketou (both in Benin republic), Ibadan, Iwo , Abeokuta, Osogbo , Ota, Offa ,Badagry, Ilaro, Ogbomosho, Illesa, Ijebu , Iwo, Gbongan, Saki, Iseyin, Ondo Atakampe(Togo) etc. Over 40 million people speak the language of the old Oyo empire across different countries.

Touted as a great kingdom, its language couldn't even survive outside of Edo state not to talk of influencing others. A supposedly great empire with no successor city or state grin (except we have to count Libya and Italy).
You go explain tire, no evidence grin

A very useless map. A map without the great Oyo empire. I'm certain the Oyo empire in the said 1747 controlled more land than the Benin empire.

I personally have no issues with the Oba of Benin. He is partly Yoruba himself by virtue of the first king we gave to the old Benin empire.

The Oba should focus more on developing Benin city to become a capital city they can be proud of considering their past greatness and not try to claim a more prosperous city belonging to his distant cousins. And if he is a hurry to start claiming cities, he should start with parts of Ekiti and Ondo states which were actually taken from the Benin empire by the Yorubas instead of a coastal city over 300km away from Benin city.

I didn't not know immigrants who settled in a very small neighbourhood (Isale-Eko) of the state can later claim to have founded the city-state. A very annoying claim that is disrespectful to someone like me whose both maternal grandparents and hence ancestors were both Aworis of Lagos origin. The Italians can as well claim to have founded New York City by just settling in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan.

Everybody is just trying to claim this Lagos sha. I wonder what stops them from creating "a Lagos" in one of their native states.
Learner lol. grin

Show us your own map that shows Oyo empire and can be backed by historical fact and figures

I was partly raised in the house of my great grandmother who lived a long life and was the wife of an Enogie (my great grandfather) and became the mother of an Enogie when my great grandfather passed away. She was a kid during the war between Benin kingdom and Britain. And I met her, I lived in her house and exchanged with her.
She is probably the most important person I would ever meet in my life (I've met the former French President Holland) except if I ever have the chance to meet the Oba. She was a living witness to history.
People don't realise this but 1897 is not that long ago. My mom's grandfather (Chief Agho) witnessed it all as an adult who assumed the regency of the Kingdom during the interregnum. The British used him. That was so unfortunate.
But we can't change history.
What a privilege

Your children must be enjoying such privilege.

You're exposed to first hand experience.

I heard alot of chiefs betrayed the kingdom and outsiders (fellow Africans now within Nigeria) were used to ransack the Benin empire by the parasitic Britain

I left nigeria in 1997.
In all my time spent in Nigeria I had never seen a person insult another person's parents, no matter how much they hated each other.
I had seen people fight each other, and when the parent of one of them showed up, both would stop and show respect to that parent.
To us back then, a parent was parent not only to his kids, but to all kids.
The Nigeria I left had good manners. Respect for tradition and traditional values.
The Nigeria of today looks like a wild Forrest compared to the one I once knew.
Also, Nigerians were much more intelligent back then, and I'm not only talking about literate people.
I saw people who couldn't read or write but had an extremely solid logical thinking skill which most Nigerian literate people of today do not have.
Nigerians have given up logical thinking for mastery of English vocabulary. So now they are dumb, but with their good level of English (written and spoken) they can pretend to be smart.

Turkey (metals, construction materials, electricity, energy; total exports - $5.7 billion) and the UAE (cybersecurity, agrotech, fintech, construction, investments in aerospace, energy, medicine, various industries; trade turnover amounted to $2.5 billion) are the most actively engaged with Israel.

Additionally, Israel's cooperation with Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan is noted. The latter two countries satisfy more than 60% of Israel's oil needs.

Whichever way, the 2-state solution will only be actualized by talks, negotiations and concessions; after the battle has been fought and one or both party is exhausted.

I'm am of the school of thought that the fighting stage duration could and should be reduced as much as possible. This, I believe, is when the strongest supporter nations could make a case for permanent ceasefire talks. eg Turkey, Iran, Qatar. Just my thoughts, though.

Trust me, Israel would eventually bow to pressure, as more and more nations pressure USA to talk to their lapdog, Israel. They know they cannot fight a forever war with Hamas and they definitely could not destroy the whole Palestine population.
How many years has the 2 state solution been on the table without violent resistance from the Palestinians?

An illiterate can be regarded as educated.

An illiterate farmer can tend his farm better than a formally educated person who has never been on a farm.

My great grandfather was a surgeon before colonialism. He was illiterate (could not read and write), but educated in medicine. He knew herbs like the back of his hands.

When the colonialists came, the ones in my village relied on my great grand father's knowledge of herbal medicine.
I'm lost.

He belongs to the class of people that would have called Nelson Mandela a terrorist. Most of them don't understand that fighting for freedom against a murderous regime requires some level of violence. The Algerians did it, the ANC did it, the Americans did it against Britain, and so did so many other oppressed people (who were ALL called terrorists/savages). Israel is not the kind of country that you can get freedom from by simply protesting. It's not like the colonialism we experienced here. In Israel, protesting only gets you jailed or murdered in cold blood while those who claim to defend human right applaud them and the press calls you a terrorist. The best way out is to either flee or stand and die for your rights. Let's ask ourselves if this is how Palestinians started. First, it was with stones before they started using crude weapons. Now, they are laying their hands on fairly modern technology. Between October and December, Israel has lost millions of supporters (including Western citizens) and it will only get worse.

It's because of people like him that Africa is still where it is today. They'd rather maintain the status quo, Japa, or believe in delusions (faith) instead of trying to change their destiny. Fighting your oppressor seems to be only stupid in the eyes of Africans.
They kept protesting peacefully until they lost 80% of their lands to the Zionist Apartheid state.

What I detest is claiming to be victims of retaliatory attacks of their enemy. Action and reactions are opposite and sometimes unequal.

If they are man enough to fire, they should be man enough to take fire without crying "genocide" up and down. I wish them good luck.
Until the IDF remove all the apartheid system created all over the Palestinian lands, the Palestinians remain victims.

You can't occupy a people and ask them not to be seen as victims when they fight back.

What you're saying above is very far from the situation that has grown bad for years.

I expect a more diplomatic efforts to get their 2-state solution after the ceasefire. Bravery without good strategy is just being foolhardy and will not get the desired result.

They already made a very strong statement with their fights since October 7. I expect a more strategic warfare on a diplomatic level at this stage. They've got the hostages, they've got global support, they've got some Arab neighbours willing to ensure their 2-state solution.

Their bloodthirstiness and eagerness to fight immediately after a ceasefire shows that they want something else apart from freedom from apartheid.
With statements coming from Netanyahu and his Zionist cult members, they're not looking at any 2 state solution.

What they keep saying is destroying Hamas and having one Israel whatever.

Ability to read and write is literacy. It may be a part of some forms of education, but not all forms of education.

If we considered that certain civilizations did not have written languages and yet created/invented things, it meant that we have had illiterate inventors or even scientists.

Formal education has caused us to narrow down on the definition of education.
Ability to comprehend is also a feature of education.
