Seun: "As you mention, eating raw eggs carries the eventual risk of a biotin deficiency. Although egg yolk is actually a rich source of biotin, the white contains avidin, a glycoprotein that bonds with biotin, preventing the nutrient’s absorption. Avidin is generally inactivated when cooked, which makes the biotin in the yolk fully available for absorption by the body. You don’t have to rule out raw eggs by any means. I wouldn’t advise eating them daily for long stretches of time without a biotin supplement (supported within a B-complex intake, since these vitamins work synergistically). If you’re eating them just a few times a week, the risk for deficiency isn’t as great, but I would still do a supplement or at least make sure I was getting a hefty amount of biotin rich food (swiss chard, tomatoes, carrots, liver and others) the days I eat raw eggs. As a compromise, some folks will just eat the raw yolks alone and cook up the whites later." http://www.marksdailyapple.com/drinking-raw-eggs/
"There are two problems with giving your dog raw eggs. The first is the possibility of food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli. The second is that an enzyme in raw eggs interferes with the absorption of a particular B vitamin. This can cause skin problems as well as problems with your dog's coat if raw eggs are fed for a long time." http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/ss/slideshow-foods-your-dog-should-never-eat
I suggested frying because my dog does not like to eat eggs unless they are fried. Boiled eggs are very low in calories which is great if your dog needs to lose weight, or if the eggs are mixed with something else that contains a lot of calories. Fried eggs provide more calories.
well said; but frying isnt advisable. ive once had a client give his dogs 12eggs at a go...he lost the puppy.
Seun: My dog Sloan once escaped from my compound. This was after I started walking him. People started running from him and falling. Naturally, he loved the game and started chasing them. I ran after him and also fell in a mud puddle and broke my leg a bit. When I got up, he had stopped chasing people. I called him to me but he just stared at me. So I limped towards him, grabbed his collar, and dragged him home. Then an area boy kind of guy brought out a shovel and started following us, threatening to kill the dog. Sloan has never left my compound since that day.

kolokolobi: Interesting read I've gone through. I'm not too knowledgeable on the micro nutritional values though I know that raw eggs have to be handled with care. Like I said I do mix with milk and give to a puppy. I note prodigee's advice of not doing that beyond the 8th week though. I'll do some research to know why.
Seun: Raw eggs contain an enzyme which destroys an key vitamin (biotin) so it is wrong to give a dog raw eggs. You should fry the eggs. Fried eggs are safe and dogs love them. The same applies to most fish e.g. Shawa, catfish, tilapia which contain an enzyme that destroys thiamine. Atlantic Mackerel fish (aka "original Titus" is the only fish sold in Nigeria that my research suggests is safe to feed raw. Cooking food doesn't destroy its nutritional value for dogs. The heat destroys vitamin C, but dog's don't need vitamin C in their diet because they can synthesise it. The water-soluble vitamins in cooked food will leak into the water used to cook it, while fat-soluble vitamins will leak into oil used to fry food, so make sure the water/oil used to cook/fry your dog's eggs/fish/chicken is added to your dog's food too. I hope you find this information useful.
On the contrary, if fries arent too good for human, why dogs? raw eggs are natural diets. if you cant handle worms, boil it. but do not boil for long.
A few times you leave the gate open and your dog finds this an opportunity to make a run. Except you're as fast or faster than the dog, running after it is quite useless.
Depending on the dog, some dogs can run at length and not get tired while others would get tired easily and surrender.
It is very important NOT to punish a stray dog. You need to let your dog know that coming to you is more fun than making a run.
Follow this few steps to recall your pet on the run:-
First, training your dog to come on command is very important and would be a life saver in cases like this. If you dont have the time to train your dog, get a dog trainer.
Never shout at your dog: this would only make him think coming back to you is trouble. as earlier said, he needs to know that coming to you is safer than making a run.
Talk to your dog: In a soft tone, call your dog's name. if he stops and stares at you, squat slowly. use words like "good dog" "come baby".
Take the right tools: If you find what your dog likes best,eg. a toy, some treats. Take them along with you. This increases the chances of him coming back to you.
Praise him when he comes to you: This is very important. give him a lot of praises. give him some treat once you get back home.
smileysmiles: I fed my dog a diet of raw eggs for a month ( he was ill and would not eat, so i force fed him raw eggs morning and night for about a month) and it was ok.
If you read about raw egg feeding online you would notice that authors say that dogs are better equipped to handle d "bacteria" so it should not be a problem. Just make sure the eggs are properly washed (if u are going to let your dog eat the shells) if animals in the wild can eat carcass of animals after 2-3days (think of all d bacteria involved in decomposition) i dont see why eggs should be problematic.
Do your research. Im sure the advantages outweigh the risks. Goodluck.
this is someone i respect alot. nice writeup. raw egg is good. as long as you deworm regularly. but note: eggs have high cholesterol. dont overfeed. milk is only good when your pet is a puppy. giving milk after 8wks isnt advisable
mayorall: collaborating my GSD with oga bounty's pedigree gsd. Our agreement is #20,000 and two puppies in Lagos. I have to travel with her from Osogbo to Lagos on Friday. Advisable, do you have idea of where I can get pedigree male at Ibadan or Osogbo? .

kolokolobi: Spicy food is not too good for dogs. Cut down on or even out thee spices. On your bedroom not being a litter den, you need to start letting your pet know where is your space and where it should not encroach. If you are allowing your pet to hop on the bed at will without you stopping it, it will assume it's normal and will keep on doing so. You may also start doing some potty training so it will begin to recognise where it can do its thing. A good way to start is by taking it to a designated area to poo just after a meal. If you can get a crate that has compactments one can be it's poo area. It's a pup. It's all play. But never be tired of repeating what you want and when it does what is desired, reward. In time it will recognise what's rewarded and start sticking to it.
Spices in suya are made up of fruits. Apart from onions and some fruits they can't take, the spices shd be good.
I think if you can stand your dog's on the couch, let them be. It doesn't affect in any way. Seeing the way he and his fiancee loves the dog, they would rather have the dog anywhere.
Potty-training is good. U'll need it for an indoor dog.
TrishaP: Why if I may ask? Why not puppy food for a puppy?
aah...long story. but the bottomline is, raw is good for puppies. only if you know how to use it. not advisable for everyone. most puppy foods are made from raw foods.
Not all pups come to this world as we want it. Sometimes mother nature decides different. But this is what I expect from anyone who loves his dog. To give them a chance. Without thinking about time and money, and not to put them away.
smileysmiles: reminds me of my first few visits to the vet when my dog was ill, the dude kept asking,
'how's his urine? Is it much or not? What color is it? Is it yellow or dark brown? How's his poop?? Is it watery? Does it go grey? Does it smell .
In my mind i was thinkin, is dis guy well like this? Wetin concern me and poop and piss? Is dat the treatment i brot him here for?. Lol. Turns out it matters!
