Chance of survival is very slim. Are there any dogs not showing signs? Take then off from the other dogs quick.

Parvo is further worsened by dirty environment so be sure to clean every bit of poo and throw up the infected dog does.

Today I will be discussing a very important topic. Feeding is an important (if not the most important) part of life, But feeding right is even far more important to just feeding.


The problem with feeding dogs is, all or most of the information we get both online or from people are mostly anecdotal in nature. This means they are not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research.

here comes the first question.

What really makes people decide to feed raw?
Most people 'try' raw feeding because they relate to the theory that wild canids would eat a diet mainly consisting of raw meat and bones, so people should try and mimic this diet when feeding their pets.

Some other do because its a natural diet.

And a few do because they believe feeding their dog raw would make them more aggressive.


Are they right?
First, ill like to dismiss the myth that raw feeding makes dogs aggressive. Sorry it doesn't.

A dog would guard raw food better because its worth fighting for, but after the meal, you have that same dog you have always had; the fun and loving dog.

Also, raw feeding is indeed a natural diet. giving the dogs just close to the amount of nutrients they really need. Dogs can also digest raw food better than kibbles.

Are there dangers to raw feeding?
lets take a look at this before we go into the benefits of raw feeding.

Alot of times i have heard people say "aren't those chicken bones dangerous for your dogs", "isn't your dog going to get bacteria from eating raw?"

Especially chicken because we all know that dogs shouldn’t eat chicken bones, and chicken is widely known to be heaving in Salmonella, Campylobacter and other horrible pathogens.

but as stated earlier, the problem with these issues stated is that most of them are based on opinions and not facts.


The problem with bones.
Sharp Fragments
A puppy as young as 6weeks old has a powerful jaw that can crush chicken bones. Although raw bones are softer and less dangerous than cooked bones, little fragments of bones can form. These fragments can injure the intestines and even cause a blockage in the intestines.

Tooth Fracture
Another problem with raw feeding is the risk of the dog having a fractured tooth. This might not sound as a big deal to you, of course a broken tooth isn't life threatening.

For those who are concerned about their dogs dental life, making a fractured teeth right is going to make a big hole in your pocket.

Health Problems
Raw foods can also contain some harmful bacteria which of course can not be disputed, Fortunately, these germs seem to have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the average dog.

Of course, there is bound to be an exception to this rule, so no-one can guarantee your dog will not get some horrible tummy bug from eating raw chicken.

But again, thousands of dogs eat raw chicken, every day and come to no harm. Not to mention all the other foul substances that many dogs consume on a regular basis, including the feces of other animals.

Reducing the risks
Bones
Most bone-related problems only occur when bones are fed separately to dogs. Feeding bones inside meat would reduce the risk of intestinal injuries, as the dog would crush the bones but it would remain inside the meaty parcel .

Tooth

Luckily, the bones that break dogs teeth are that of larger animals. These large bones which are mostly impossible to crack can in turn fracture your dogs teeth.

Feeding light bones like chicken, rabbit would reduce this risk.

Health

The overall health of the animal you're feeding can not be verified at times, even the meat we eat as humans. This is why we boil them to reduce the risk of infection.

To raw feeders, freezing is equivalent to boiling. Mostly, freezing for at least 24 hours before feeding to your dog; this thoroughly kills the parasite.

Advantages of Raw feeding

Healthier teeth and gums

Fewer allergies

Better behavior

Less obesity

Reduced risk of bloat

More energy

Less smelly poop


Well, ill discuss the proven ones.

The excretion of a raw fed dog is far less smellier and also less in quantity to kibble fed dogs.

Oh yes, feeding your dog raw doesn't make your dog fat. Instead it increases the weight of your dog.

Clean Teeth and fresher breath

Bones help to clean your dogs teeth and helps your dog have even more fresher breath

A happy dog

Try putting raw and kibble in-front of your dog. See which one he goes for. No doubt, dogs loooove raw food so dogs are happier eating raw than kibbles.

In conclusion

Processed foods often have added preservatives that enhance product shelf life. Food that has been freshly prepared and has not been processed or had preservatives added is commonly considered a healthier choice. Commercial raw diets are usually frozen, which means they don’t require added preservatives.

Feeding your dog a variety of raw diet is highly required. Your diet should consist of Meat, Bones and organs such as liver.



Every dog is different, so mostly what works for Tom won't work for Harry.

Hygroma is a fluid-filled sac formed around the joints of dogs in response to repeated pressure such as sitting of lying on hard grounds.

For better understanding, when your dog constantly hits his elbow for example on hard surfaces, it causes something called a "callus". A Callus is that thick, hairless part of your dog's joint. More frequent collision and fluids begin to build up in the area.

If you have noticed a callus, or Hygroma on your dog then there are some things you could do.

TREATING ELBOW CALLUS An elbow callus doesn't really call for concern, but if you want to prevent it from becoming an ulcer here's what you can do.




Provide a soft bedding for your dog to lie on.

Moisturize the callus every day with coconut oil. Some people think it is better to let them dry out since the blood vessels are not near the surface and they are less likely to bleed, but if kept moist every day the moisturizer can actually make the callus almost disappear. Your dog will be more comfortable without a dry callus.

If your dog is licking the callus, then it has already been infected. contact your vet for treatment options.

If your dog is obese, ensure your dog looses weight.



TREATING HYGROMA
If your dog has an Hygroma, you should contact your vet. Elbow hygromas are more serious and more difficult to treat. Take your dog to the Vet before it gets infected.

I went to Agege over the weekend to get dry food for my dogs. Apart from the fact that the prices have gone up, all the regular dry food like K9 favourite, Arion, Denca, Josera, and Diamond are nowhere to be seen . I thought about getting Royal Canin for my puppies , but when i saw the price(N23,000), i have to repent. Eventually settled for a new product, Booster and Miglior cane dry food for my puppies. The trend seems to be getting worse as enquiries vendors outside the area seems to be futile.
In case anyone has an idea of where one can get this food, please share

Another alternative is to go for raw food, and most people seem to be unreliable as they would promise and fail. Fyi, i don't do foestus ooo.

Most importers are putting dry food importation on hold, previously I used arion, but arion imports stopped since January. They said till march.
Then I switched to josera, last week there was OOS on josera puppy. Only adult which is now 10500.

Alternatively, I have switched to raw ffeeding, but you can get josera adult which has a protein level of 27%.

Counter-intuitively, a high protein diet is actually not good for weight gain. Many owners of fat dogs have said that their dogs lost weight after they switched to a raw diet. When I tried to fatten my dog with a raw diet, it didn't work. Once he ate a certain amount, he would start rejecting food. Which is embarrassing (and very funny, really) when the food in question is a juicy piece of Orobo chicken lap. Raw food is not fattening.

The secret to weight gain is the same for cows, chickens, human beings, and dogs: starchy food. It's so easy to digest and full of calories. Our family dogs are the fattest and yet most hyper-active dogs I have ever seen. Their staple food is rice and shawa fish, cooked and mixed up. I've also read that feeding a lot of puppy food to an adult dog can lead to weight gain, because puppy food is very rich, so you're on the right track.

i stand to be corrected but i think excess protein is stored in the body as fats, inshort, any form of calories in excess is stored as fat in the body.

The key to raw feeding is what blasiangurl uses, the weight factor. she uses a particular qty/kg as regards to the dogs body weight.
