Their salaries are already a burden on the public.

I have watched with amazement d insensitive manner in which lagos state government is spending money dis days, there actions n inactions clearly stated they r mediocre n hypocritically corrupt,I will use the educational sector as an example, the lagos government bought new set of executive tables n chairs for principals running to billions of naira why the ones dey r using before is still very good, dey put mediocre signboards in senior and junior secondary schools which is useless and aimless, these money will av been chanel at employing teacher because there is shortage of teachers in senior secondary schools, another thing was instead of employing EKO project teachers that have taught for not less than four years and over was neglected for politicians children, this is was an height of cluelessness, irresposibility, beaglebrained greedy and confused lagos state government without vision n lost priority, rain blew off an adminitrative building since last year in a particular school and it have not been fixed up to this time, someone should talk senses into this politicians, they should stop been self-centered,they do only what will favour them,it is unfair.

PoliticsRe: Ondo: My Mandate Is To Govern, Not To Probe Mimiko – Akeredolu by Produke(m): 5:12pm On Nov 29, 2016
angeltolly:
The Ondo state Governor-elect, Rotimi Akeredolu has put to rest, fears or insinuations in some quarters that his government might take after the footsteps of the Buhari-led Federal government in probing the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko, following his election victory at the poll last Saturday.

Akeredolu who gave the clarification in Akure on Monday said that he was given a mandate to govern and not to probe past administrations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had on Sunday declared Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in the state after polling 244,842 votes to beat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 150, 380 votes, while Mr Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, followed with 126, 889 votes.

“What was beyond my imagination was the magnitude – the number of votes we scored vis-a-vis what two other contestants scored. I never believed that the margin would be that wide.

“I don’t believe in probes. What I believe in is that I’ve been given a mandate to govern the state and when I come into office I will face the task. “The past is the past and I am one person who believes that government is a continuum,” he said.

PoliticsOpen Letter To Niger Delta Leaders by Produke(op): 8:44pm On Oct 25, 2016
OPEN LETTER TO NIGER DELTA LEADERS

Beyond political affection and sentiments,I'm going to say one or two truths about the Niger Delta and its leaders.I will try not to pamper the political class with eulogies and enconiums. The state we are now is too precarious for all that farce. As a nation bedeviled with corruption and ethnic conciousness, there is need to judge the status quo without equivocation.I am a Niger Deltan before a Nigerian and as such I ought to put my house in order before thinking about the bigger problem called Nigeria;Buhari own de e bodi.
The leadership of the Niger Delta has been the bane to region's retarded infrastructural and industrial growth, the Niger Delta has occupied virtually all levels of leadership in Nigeria in recent times but all attempts have not reflected in the lives of the people. We have confortably placed ourselves brazenly in the waters of mediocrity. It is beyond us being in control of all the oil wells in Nigeria;it is about how good we have passed the test of management;it is about how well others have farred better than us despite our oil wealth. It is good for our brothers to have oil wells but monies from oil wells are not public money, they fall into private coffers.
The recent revelation of revenue allocation reveals that the Niger Delta region especially the south south region gets the highest allocation. It is pardonable for states like Osun,Ondo,Kebbi and other states to be industrially and infrastructurally impoverished, but states like Delta,Rivers,Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa have no reason to imitate Osun state in failure to pay civil servants their benefits. It is unpardonable for Nyesom Wike,Ifeanyi Okowa or Dickson to fail to provide their states unmatching infrastructure, housing and proper health care.It is safe to say that despite the heavy revenue allocation our roads are still in deplorable states and our industries moribund.I would not want to talk about monies generated internally.
As a native of Sapele for instance,I grew up to know just one person who has controlled the political milieu of the region,he has always been considered in elections because the people see him as a political climber who will alleviate their sufferings as he progresses politically.Alas,we have the speaker and year 2016 looks like another 2011.This is a prominent Niger Delta leader who thinks he has a bright political future and a Niger Deltan. If Niger Delta leaders had done their home work,I would have been the chief exponent of the Niger Delta Republic declaration.
It is pertinent to rejig the mindset of our leaders into performance and integrity. We have the resources and we should try to make hay while the sun shines because the news from the oil market is disheartning. We should eschew tribal and political differences and learn brotherhood.
In conclusion,we are Niger Deltans and we have to rescue ourselves from this great storm now that the ship has not cap-sized,the time to regain our honour and bring veneration to ourselves is not ample.

Prosper Merie is a social critic of Niger Delta origin.

You lost the seat
So no blood would be spilled
You lost the poll
But you never lost my love
You lost our tribe
But you never lost the world
You lost the victory songs
But you gave us celebration
You lost my salute
But you have my respect
You lost the dreams
But you gave us life
You lost the headlines
But our memories still hold your lagacy
You lost something
But we have lost everything
We lost a president
But alas,we have a general

Papa

After God he comes
At his sight evil slumps
He wields the holy book
Flawless fabrics buried his glowing look
He is one who had not known thirst
He has never known dearth
He is papa
Umpires the holy number
The mighty are published to the fore
The lack unmoved almost at the door
They have given their barely visible estate
They say heaven will change their state
Papa learnt them
Up is their estate that is Papa's anthem
In the end Papa is wheeling
Backbenchers are hardly homing
Backbenchers suffer for their sins
Papa is clean
He sees beyond vision
But he doesn't see my nutrition
He does not toil like the hen
But his den
Like the dwelling of tax spender
Lets live for judges yonder

EducationToday's Students' Unionism by Produke(op): 4:05pm On Mar 23, 2016
By Merie Prosper
(Produke)

TODAY'S STUDENTS' UNIONISM

Upon my admission into the university,my idea of the Students' Union Government was a union which comprises a group of students with similar goals and objectives speaking in one voice not knowing that my definition or decription of Students' unionism has long been reviewed by the Students' "unionists" as a body comprising students who delve mistakenly into school politics to amass wealth for themselves, drive around our campuses in Toyota sienna vans, live in furnished rooms despite the lamentable state of our hostels and wear starched clothes.Students' unionism has been typical of an oxymoron because studentship in recent times has dissociated itself from the essence of unionism. It is quite lamentable and laughable that problems in higher institutions brew when the population of students has increased in tens over the years.
The offices of students' union officials have become too juicy leaving Nigerian students in the hands of leaders who are worse than the occupants of the red and green chambers.Leadership ought to be purpose driven and not that which is backed by finacial appetite. As scholarly as Albert Eisten when offered the position of Isreal presidency declined the offer saying he lacks the natural aptitude to handle official matters. There is no gainsaying Eistien made his mark on earth. The case of students leaders is quite different as they are sponsored by godfathers in schools' governing council or "overgraduate students"."Overgraduate students" are those alumni ou see on our campuses who come to our campuses to invest in students' union elections, all these has given rise to mediocrity in students' union government.
These tom, dick and harry students' leaders emmerge victorious and they go into government to fulfil their purpose which is not to speak as a voice for the students but do the dictates of sponsors and protrude their pockets. The interference of school authorities in students' politics is also a plague to students' activism, the level of tribalism that plays on our campuses is colossal where certain positions are reserved for students of host communities.Often times on our campuses there are clashes between school's annionted candidates and the oba, eze, alafin, emir, sultan, ovie, olu as the case may be.The palaces have become determiners of the lives of young students who are christened "leaders of "tomorrow"
The deplorable state of our hostels today is not due to the bad government we have in Nigeria today but due to the dumb leaders we have on our campuses who have refused to speak for the students who have no choice but to find comfortability in bed bug-ravaged mattresses, bushes housing bed bugs, over crowded hostel rooms, bad toilets and open air bathrooms(student have their bath outside).
Students' activism can no longer be percieved in our schools, maybe it died with Abacha.Students' associations in the departmental and faculty levels are the most handicapped on our campuses, their objectives are simple -host faculty and departmental balls, produce t-shirts and collect dues from which a good proportion of the dues collected leave students' coffers to faculty deans and HODs.These faculty leaders ought to channel the grieviances of their students to the SUG when they can no longer contain the pressure.Contrary to the objective of a sane students' union, leaders protect their GPs to the detriment of students they lead.
Victimization of students has become commonplace on our campuses where students are victimized for not dancing to the tune of greedy lecturers and sexually voracious lecturers who have turned their offices in hotel rooms, when these innocent young women die of abortion their families become painned and when their wombs are destroyed the become prey to their future husbands. The students' leaders have not been able to tame these unsrupulous elements in the name of academics.
The state of overcrowdiness of our lecture theatres is so much in a sorry state, where a lecture hall for five hundred students is made to forcfully occupy over three thousand students.
Arise!students must not be dumb or feign ignorance of this plague, thousands of students united cannot be defeated by a few pot bellied administrators who know of our plights but have not been informed with cries and demonstrations of angry students who have not enjoyed the true benefits of studentship. The school is a micro reflection of the larger society and if we fail as intellectuals the society will die.We must not wait on our "leader" but on the miraculous spirit of "aluta"
Let the unschooled man not say "thank God I didn't go to school. We must talk.
Aluta Continua!!!
